Italian luxury yacht builder CRN presents itself in Hong Kong

March 27, 2013

The prestigious Italian luxury yacht builder, CRN, part of the Ferretti Group, targets the Eastern markets with determination. As part of this strategy, the shipyard has recently presented itself to the media, hosting a tailor-made event in Hong Kong.

CRN Shipyard in Ancona, Italy

CRN Shipyard in Ancona, Italy

The Ferretti Group shipyard in Ancona, specialized in the manufacturing and marketing of fully custom and semi-custom alluminium or composite mega yachts, ranging from 40 to 90 metres, has decided to present the strategies, results, trends and prospects to the operators of the “Greater China” market, a term which is commonly used to refer to the area that includes China together with Macao and Hong Kong.

For this purpose, CRN organized a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel and Mauro Frattesi, Ferretti Group Apac Managing Director, Lamberto Tacoli, President and CEO of CRN, and Luca Boldrini, Marketing Manager, gave speeches.

The Hong Kong event, which was important for CRN’s development strategies, followed the historic launching of the 80 metre CRN 129 motor yacht Chopi Chopi held on 12th January, just a few days before the Hainan Rendez Vous (30th March – 2nd April), the great international event dedicated to luxury, which has gained more and more importance over the years, and in which CRN will participate together with the Ferretti Group to meet clients and brokers.

During the press conference, President Tacoli presented the company’s situation, starting from the recent launching of the superyacht Chopi Chopi, the largest megayacht manufactured by the shipyard, which was launched in Ancona on 12th January after an event that was open to the city and attended by 4000 people.

Tacoli mentioned that CRN celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013, an important milestone which confirms the tradition and stability of the shipyard, which in the past experienced difficult moments and which operates within a complex market, sometimes turbulent, and which has even seen some brands disappear.

The Marketing Manager of CRN, Luca Boldrini, highlighted the importance of completely customized productions, adaptability and the novelties of the new yachts, emphasizing the different external lines constantly proposed by the ship owners and researched in collaboration with the most important international yacht designer firms.

CRN is well-established among the international shipbuilding elite, and records confirm its vitality: in fact, in the shipyard of Ancona 7 yachts of the CRN brand are being manufactured: six steel and aluminum megayachts –CRN 125 60 m luxury yacht J’Ade, launched in November 2012 and which will be delivered to the ship owner in April, CRN 129 80 m mega yacht Chopi Chopi, launched on 12th January and which will be delivered in May, 74m superyacht CRN 131 (all designed by Zuccon International Project), CRN 132 73 m (designed by Omega Architects), CRN 133 60 m (designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design), CRN 134 55 m (designed by Nuvolari & Lenard) – and a 43m CRN Navetta 43 made of composite, also designed by Zuccon International Project.

Among other things, the 60 metre superyacht J’Ade continues to have the success of the previous megayachts which have a 10.2 metre wide platform, and that has led to the manufacturing of important ships in the history of CRN, namely, charter yacht Ability, charter yacht Maraya, Romance, superyacht Blue Eyes, motor yacht Mimtee and luxury yacht Darlings Danama, but with design and technological innovations that make then unique.

Together with these CRN ships, in the shipyard of Ancona five maxiyachts of the Custom Line brand are being built (two CL 124’, two CL Navetta 33 Crescendo and the CL 112’ yacht Next) and the Riva 122’ superyacht Mythos made of aluminum, all of which are being manufactured. This is an impressive number of yachts, especially when their size and prestige is taken into consideration.

CRN is the world-bearer of the Made in Italy, which represents excellence, fusing creativity, design, technology and craftsmanship in single products, and is always tailor-made to the ship owners.

Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN said
: “This is an important moment for the development of our business, because it allows us to reach a market area that is very important for us, especially in the long term. We would like to emphasize that the Ferretti Group has already been present in this region for a long time, it opened an office in Shanghai over 8 years ago and it has a network of competent and trustworthy distributors. It is obvious that China has been an attractive market so far, but it will be more so in the coming years, when the yachting culture will have spread even more. We know that we need to be patient to see significant results.”

“CRN looks ahead to the next events, such as the 50th anniversary and two more launchings this season, a 60 metre and 43 metre, and above all the Monaco Yacht Show in September, where we will present the finished and equipped Chopi Chopi and J’Ade: it will be a decisive milestone for us to reach our clientele, which has become international. Besides the whole of the Asia Pacific, the markets that we are targeting are North, South and Central America, Africa, which is slow but emerging, and obviously the Middle East, as we wait for Europe to recover its share,” concluded Tacoli.

Below is a choice of the outstanding charter yachts built by CRN Yachts.

Ferretti Custom Line 124′ Hull N°4 Yacht launched

February 26, 2013

The prestigious Italian luxury yacht builder, Ferretti, has launched the flagship yacht of the Ferretti Group’s brand line – the Ferretti Custom Line 124′ #4 yacht. The launch has taken place in Ancona, Italy, on the 19th February, with the vessel representing the largest yacht ever constructed by Ferretti Custom Line. Once onboard furnishings and all necessary technical operations have been completed, the Custom Line 124′ hull n°4 superyacht will head off to Turkey. The delivery is scheduled for the end of March, marking an absolute debut of Ferretti Custom Line on this important Mediterranean market.

Ferretti Custom Line 124' superyacht - Hull 4

Ferretti Custom Line 124’#4 yacht – once again the outcome of the close cooperation between Studio Zuccon International Project, AYTD – Advanced Yacht Technology & Design (Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre) – can boast an entirely white hull and onboard spaces fully customised to the tastes of the Owner, who wanted to add an original touch to the interiors and, together with the AYTD designers, has chosen a series of decor solutions selecting some of the leading Italian brands. Such extraordinary customisation possibilities are one of the distinguishing features of Ferretti Custom Line, a brand that has always set the Owner’s wishes as its main priority, aiming to offer its Customers a “truly tailored sea experience”.

“We are particularly satisfied with the launch and the forthcoming delivery of this model in Turkey - explains Karin Paggi, Ferretti Custom Line’s EMEA Sales Manager – because they confirm this country’s interest for our products. Turkey is indeed one of the leading markets for the Ferretti Group in the whole Mediterranean basin, where we have been present for over 15 years with many Ferretti Custom Line models that have always been widely appreciated”.

The exterior of the yacht features racy, slender, elegant lines – distinctive signs of all maxi yachts of the Ferretti Group brand – further enhanced by a wide glazed surface along the main deck and by another functional-aesthetic innovative solution at the height of the salon: a system of glass surfaces that can be converted into sliding doors and a collapsible gunwale on both broadsides allowing to obtain exclusive private terraces overlooking the sea. A unique, unmistakable feature of this Ferretti Custom Line 124′ superyacht’s fourth hull is the colour chosen by the Owner for the hull: pure white, like the sea foam.

The interiors of the Ferretti Custom Line 124’#4 yacht stand out for their contemporary, completely restyled design, in which fine materials play a crucial role: precious Canaletto walnut wood, polished lacquered panels in shades of ecru, and ivory-shade leather for the walls and the furniture; bleached oak parquet flooring on the main deck, in the lobby of the lower deck and on the upper deck, alternating with soft fitted FloorToHeaven carpeting in the master cabin and the cabins on the lower deck. Not to mention the fine marble found in the bathrooms.

MAIN DECK

Ferretti Custom Line motor yacht 124’#4 features particularly generous spaces starting in the cockpit, where the Owner decided to customise the lounge area with the Zendo model of the Manutti line: two sand coloured armchairs and sofa plus a matching square-shaped, modern-style pouf.

The spacious salon is free of any obstacles and allows the eye to sweep freely across it. Large windows and the wide side glazed surfaces ensure incredible brightness and increase the sense of spaciousness and continuity between the interiors and the exteriors. The side glazing, on both sides, opens onto the sidedecks, where the electric-hydraulic collapsible platforms can be converted into terraces offering a unique, exclusive view over the sea.

The living area is furnished with two large L-shaped sofas with lacquered frame and fabric linings and two coffee tables built in the same wood as the boat with a sanded, extra-light-shade glass base. To the right is a lacquered solid-wood and leather unit which contains a 52” TV with pop-up system. This layout leaves a wide central passage free, leading to the opening glazed doors. Moreover, the Owner has chosen to complete this area with a brandy-shade carpet, FloorToHeaven – Kover Buro “Orbit” model.

Continuing towards the bow, the lunch area can be found, fitted with a custom-made large (2m x 2m) square table in Macassar ebony wood and glass in the central part, specially designed by AYTD. The table can seat up to 10-12 people and is completed by black-frame/white seat Flip model chairs by Poliform.

The Owner of the Ferretti Custom Line 124’#4 has decided to customise the central part of the boat by extending the area used for the galley, which is furnished with kitchen units by Ernestomeda in light grey satinized glass with quartz worktops and Bosch professional appliances.

The spacious Owner area can be found at the bow, where great brightness is ensured by the large glazing along both broadsides. This area is divided into a working zone and the bedroom, featuring a sepia-colour leather and gun barrel-colour frame Archibald armchair and footrest by Poltrona Frau. The Owner, from Turkey, decided to have the night area customised with a leather-lined wall by Foglizzo, on which a “wall of leaves” has been outlined using the laser drawing technique to obtain a more natural setting.

The cabin is completed by the bathroom with large shower, characterised by the exclusive materials selected by the Owner and, particularly, by the Silk Georgette Dark single marble block used for the washbasin, further enriched by Fir taps and Dornbracht accessories.

LOWER DECK

The lower deck is divided into the guest area, to which access is gained through the passage room beside the galley, and the crew quarters – completely separated from the other private areas –, that can be reached from the staircase coming from the galley on the main deck.

The four guest cabins can benefit from plenty of light thanks to the large upright-free hull glazing. The two VIP double cabins are located astern, while the two cabins with twin beds and Pullman beds can be found towards the bow. All cabins are ensuite with separate shower box.

Functional solutions have also been implemented for the crew area layout: besides the galley with dinette, the crew quarters also feature a large storage-laundry room and a cabin with desk area for the Captain. There is also a hostess cabin and, at the extreme bow, two twin cabins with bunk beds. Each cabin is fitted with a private head with shower.

UPPER DECK

On the upper deck the 124’ can show its unique style to the fullest thanks to a new concept of lounge area, whereby the latter becomes an area entirely devoted to relaxation featuring a painstaking care for both the interiors and the outdoor spaces. The panoramic salon has been fitted with bleached oak parquet flooring and offers all guests the opportunity to enjoy a really unique view over the sea from a privileged position thanks to the spherical glazing extending along the entire width of the yacht. To further enhance the elegance and refinement of this area, the Owner has chosen a cream-shade FloorToHeaven – Kover Buro “Orbit” cover featuring a cocoa-colour braided decoration.

The spacious conversation and entertainment area is characterised by a U-shaped sofa in ecru shades with a coffee table in the centre and a unit with pop-up TV system. The glass door provides access to the cockpit, furnished with a custom-made, natural teak lunch table with white Corian inserts seating up to 10-12 guests, seats with fabric cushions and a fully-equipped grill area protected from the sun by the flying bridge structure. Towards the stern, a Jacuzzi tub is surrounded by perimeter seating and a large sunbathing area. A tender can be stored at far stern, using a davit complete with protective casing, while towards the bow the lounge has made room for the helm station, featuring a sofa and a charting area. Outdoor, on both flying bridge deck, there are two control stations making manoeuvres far easier.

SUN DECK AND BOW

A second steering station can be found on the sun deck. Behind it is the sunbathing area with a large, comfortable sun pad. Besides this area, this yacht can boast many other areas specifically devoted to relaxation in the open air: a wide sunbathing area can indeed be found on the deckhouse, and another one covers a peak at the bow, while on the main deck, at the extreme bow, guests will be free to sunbathe enjoying the utmost privacy even when the yacht is moored in marinas. Underneath this area there is a garage where a small service tender can be stored.

TECHNOLOGY AND PROPULSION SYSTEM

The motor yacht 124’#4 is equipped with an excellent onboard propulsion system, ensuring outstanding performances thanks to two MTU 3184mhp or 3510mhp engines. The more powerful engines allow to reach a cruising speed of 23.5 knots and a maximum speed of 27 knots. Last-generation solutions have also been implemented for the instrumentation ensuring on-board safety and comfort, such as the Furla.Net monitoring and control system and the four Mitsubishi ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) stabilisers, installed exclusively on many Ferretti Group yachts, which reduce rolling by over 50%.

ONBOARD HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEMS

Upon request by the Owner, XTR Sonance loudspeakers have been installed in all Ferretti Custom Line 124’ #04′s outdoor areas. In order to ensure easy connection from the Mac Mini installed in the salon or from iPhone/iPad, the Seamphony Area audio device has been selected, a system that, together with the Airport Express wi-fi base, allows, for instance, to choose one’s favourite music tracks and play them in several areas, easily adjust the volume, or even display a plotter view of the yacht on the various onboard TV screens or on the touchscreen devices available. Moreover, an efficient RTI home automation system has been installed on the yacht, allowing to control all onboard sophisticated technological systems by means of a dedicated remote control or from an i-Pad: from lights and curtains to the audio&video system all the way to air conditioning and the crew call function.

The new flagship of the planing line, developed by Studio Zuccon International Project, the AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology, the naval research and design centre of the Ferretti Group and the team of architects and designers of the Centro Stile of the Ferretti Group, who worked in close collaboration. After having visited motor yacht Vintage at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, the Jury have decided to include her not only in the ‘Yachts Over 40 metres’ category, but also in the ‘Interior Design’ category. General balance, cleanliness and simplicity of the yachts’ environment were the most important aspects taken into consideration by the Jury. Sophisticated and marine atmosphere has been created on board of the motor yacht Vintage, thanks to her unforced interior decor with functional division of spaces as well as the use of wood and light upholstery.

The vessel features an innovative layout that allows for a great flow between the exterior and the interior spaces, found almost on the same level. This aspect is little developed on an industrial product. Unusual is also the cabin layout, with all cabins located at the bow.

At the forefront is the construction of the all carbon hull. Resolved and very unique is the connection between the very versatile internal spaces: a sliding door unites the dinette and the owner’s stateroom creating an open space.

During the 2010-2011 nautical year the Ferretti Group has confirmed its strong commitment to international expansion, through a strategy focused towards the local development and marketing growth in areas with strong present and future development opportunities.

In April 2010, the Group signed an agreement with its historic dealer and centre for production, sales, and after-sale service of all the yachts of the brands of the Group for the Brazilian market, Ferretti Group Brasil. The new production plant in the Sao Paolo area was officially inaugurated in June 2011.

With this same perspective, in July 2011, the company signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Shandong Heavy Industry Group (“SHIG”) – a Chinese holding, controlling leading companies in the sector of engines, generators and propulsion systems for the creation of a joint venture with the aim of developing an industrial partnership for the design, production and sale of motor yachts for the market of Greater China (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao) and other emerging markets . This initiative, which focuses on the development of new brands and models – not in competition with the present models of the Ferretti Group’s current portfolio- has the purpose of exploiting synergies starting with the respective technological and industrial skills, and will not determine impacts on the current production set up of the Group, traditionally based in Italy. Moreover, SHIG will evaluate the possibility to make a cash investment into the Group, for the acquisition of a minority shareholding.

As for North America, an area considered as strongly strategic by the Group, the distribution network has been strengthened further with new sales centres established in the North East USA, in Greenwich, CT, Newport, RI and Sag Harbor, NY as well as supporting Allied Marine in maintaining its successful brokerage activities. In the next few months, this process will expand to Michigan and California. The Group will take part in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, displaying a preview for the continent, the new Custom Line 100’, the yacht which has recently been sold to an American customer as well as other new debut models for the US market including the Ferretti 720 yacht and Riva 86’ Domino motor yacht.

As for market segments, during the 2010-2011 nautical year, Ferretti Group, which ranked first in the 2011 Global Order Book, the most thorough and accurate analysis of the global nautical industry, issued every year by authoritative international nautical magazine ‘Showboats International’, focused on medium and large yachts and on continuous product and process innovation, constantly launching new models and looking for technological solutions to be ahead of market trends.

Continuing on its strategy of constant product innovation, which envisages the launch of 42 new models between 2011 and the end of 2013, in Cannes the Ferretti Group will present:

  • Ferretti 720 by Ferretti Yachts;
  • Pershing 108’ and Pershing 74’ by Pershing;
  • Riva 75’ Venere Super, Rivarama Super, and Riva Iseo by Riva;
  • Itama 45’ by Itama;
  • Custom Line 124’, Custom Line 100’ and Navetta 33 Crescendo by Ferretti Custom Line;

At the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes the 200th hull of Aquariva, the elegant 33 foot vessel descending from the legendary Aquarama, will be on display. Representing the revival of the historic brand Riva after it has been acquired by the Group in 2000, Aquariva is a timeless icon of elegance and style.

The Ferretti Group is on a continuous quest for technological solutions in an effort to be ahead of market trends. This search led the Group to further develop the hybrid propulsion system “Zero Emission Mode”, which has been succesfully applied to the new Riva Iseo. The hybrid propulsion and Zero Emissions by means of the ‘Hybrid Propulsion ZEM’ version is particularly suitable for lakes or other areas where cruising is forbidden. This hybrid propulsion system is the result of the R&D activity of AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), the research and design centre of the Group. This technology was first applied on the Mochi Craft Long Range 23 and was noted as the most advanced “green” yacht at the world level, awarded by the Union Internationale Motonautique. Once again proving to be the most advanced technology in this field, the Group is coping with every day more demanding owners, who are particularly interested in investing in yachts that guarantee the reduction of consumption, emissions, and noise.

“Product culture has always been our DNA and our aim, more than ever, is to focus our energy on model innovation and on the continuous search for new technological and style solutions, in order to be ahead of the new trends of the nautical market at the world level” – declared Norberto Ferretti, Chairman and Founder of the Ferretti Group. “For this reason, I consider presenting in Cannes with an impressive fleet of 29 yachts, with 10 world previews, the best and the most concrete sign of the strength of our Group and of the absolute quality and typical Italian elegance which have always characterized us and resulted in a 43 year commitment to manufacturing our yachts”.

“We underwent a period of major changes, but today we can proudly state that the industrial and market choices made in the last two years by our Group have been confirmed by facts. The Group focused on its core business and became even more international, expanding in the world nautical market and into emerging economies. This has already proved to be the best choice overall. Results show that it has provided and will provide many new opportunities for further developments in future years” – declared Giancarlo Galeone, Chief Executive Officer of the Ferretti Group. “Our goal is to continue on this double and parallel path, focusing and strengthening our brands and being the protagonists of new markets where Ferretti Group symbolizes passion, innovation and excellence”.
