Great success for the 2013 Hamble Point Boat Show

May 03, 2013

More than 1,500 visitors have been attracted by the organisers and exhibitors at the second Hamble Point Boat Show, which took place on 27 and 28 April, 2013. The event marked the beginning of the boating season, bringing together boat owners, exhibitors and families for an eventful weekend, with plenty of new product launches and attractions.

In addition to hundreds of new and used boats and specialist marine products on display, there were plenty of activities for visitors during the two-day event. These included rowing tug of war and water polo from the Hamble Sea Scouts – which all attracted lots of spectators. Visitors also enjoyed a fly by from the Solent Coastguard helicopter, as well as visits from the RNLI Calshot lifeboat and the Hamble Fire Engine.

Marco Marine used the event to mark the UK premiere of the new Dufour 500 Grand Large, and Nicolle Associates and Key Yachting also held their official office launch events at the show. Key Yachting held a champagne reception and had a number of new and used boats on display, including two beautiful Princess yachts and a J111 racing yacht, which all attracted a lot of interest.

Gemma Dunn, Marketing Coordinator at Key Yachting, said: “We had a great show and were really pleased with the level and quality of customers at the event. We held our official launch party on the Saturday, with Carol Taylor of National Boat Shows opening our new premises, and are really looking forward to the season at Hamble Point Marina and getting involved in next year’s event.”

Andy Cunningham from Michael Schmidt and Partners, commented: “We had a brilliant show and were pleased with the quality of the visitors and the level of enquiries at the show. We took three offers on boats over the weekend and prepared two contracts on Monday morning after the show had ended. It’s fantastic to do business from a weekend event and we are delighted with the response and results. It was also great to see so many of the local community getting involved in the event including the young sea scouts – who we welcomed on board our yachts. You can do everything at Hamble Point Marina and events like this are a great way to bring the business and local community together, and we are looking forward to next year.”

Leading brands at the show included Dehler, Hanse, Nordhavn Yachts, Azimut and Beneteau, with visitors enjoying accompanied viewings, sea trials and workshops.

Those who attended the show also had the chance to visit the BMF On the Water bus, which was on site to promote getting people into boating and treated visitors to free giveaways.

Nicholas Parton, General Manager at Hamble Point Marina, said: “We had a fantastic event and are delighted to have welcomed so many visitors, despite the on and off weather. We had visitors travelling from far and wide and have received some brilliant feedback from visitors, exhibitors and tenants, and have already started planning next year’s event.”

Motor Yacht Azimut 80 to be presented during Azimut|Benetti Gala

April 19, 2013

The Azimut|Benetti Gala to be held at the end of June will see the new 24-metre Azimut Yachts officially presented. The new series of yachts represent contemporary lifestyle by providing outstanding comfort in four cabins, five bathrooms and a 42-square-metre flybridge. They also boast innovative solutions for the furnishings and precise lighting design. The motor yacht Azimut 80 is the first of the yachts, measuring more than 72 feet designed entirely at Azimut’s headquarters at Avigliana, Italy.

It builds on the experience of recent, larger vessels developed in the exterior design by Stefano Righini while the design of interiors was handled by Achille Salvagni Architetti. The Azimut 80 is a leisure craft built in CE class: A, and is thus able to tackle any weather conditions. The layout comprises 4 cabins, all with bathroom, including the owner’s cabin extending over the full beam. The yacht can accommodate 8 guests and includes an enormous flybridge, designed for maximum versatility of use.

ALWAYS IN TOUCH WITH THE SEA… AND PLENTY OF SPACE: THE GUEST IS KING

Panoramic windows and maximum convenience for the guests’ cabins revolutionise the way of cruising.

The sense of space in the owner’s cabin and in the splendid bathroom are certainly among the strong points of the yacht, together with the innovative windows offering extraordinary luminosity and an unmatched panoramic view. The five vertical windows effectively transform the bulkheads into a single window for a ‘dive into the ocean’ effect. The owner’s bathroom, covering the entire beam of the yacht and with a double entrance located aft of the cabin, is almost a spa, with a central crystal shower box offering maximum visibility on either side of the bathroom. The opening portholes present in all the cabins offer a high level of natural ventilation.

In the first model available, dove-coloured leather panels with a barely hinted padded decoration that becomes lighter and lighter in the various cabins, adorn the bed heads of each cabin. The interior decoration of the new Azimut 80 is extremely refined and at the same contemporary, thanks to the combination of fine materials and modern touches: marble for the bathrooms, grey bleached oak alternating with dark wood and painted detailing in the skylights and windows all define a sober, sophisticated atmosphere. Other stylistic combinations are already in the pipeline.

The starboard cabin has two single beds and the possibility of a third fold-down bed, plenty of stowage and a bathroom with separate shower, while the guests’ cabin on the port side has a double bed. There is no lack of large windows and opening portholes. In the VIP cabin located further forward, there is one panoramic window on either side; the bed is set centrally with the head towards the bow.

A carefully planned lighting design based on LED technology makes possible a sophisticated modulation of the light in each interior space. Moreover, the play of mirrors and the height of the interiors – well over two metres high – ensure a truly exceptional sense of space.

The crew’s cabins are located aft, with direct access from the deck; at the moment, two beds are planned, but the possibility of adding a third is currently being studied.

A SALON AND INTERNAL SPACES BROUGHT TO LIFE WITH LIGHT

Light and comfort are the key concepts underlying the design of the main deck.

The cockpit with teak flooring is extremely spacious and dedicated to socialising, with a large sofa aft and dining table seating eight. The design of two sky-ground windows (1.6 m by 2 m of glass) located in the dining area is very impressive, as it offers a fantastic natural light and breathtaking view.

The galley, fitted with Miele appliances, is available in two versions: enclosed or open-space. In both cases, there is a double access, towards the interior and towards the exterior, to assure maximum independence between guests and crew. The main deck is also equipped with a function day toilet.

LIVING IN THE OPEN AIR: EXTRA-LARGE SPACES TO BE ENJOYED UNTIL THE EVENING

The swimming platform measuring almost 9 square metres and the large fly are the pride and joy of the new Azimut 80 yacht.

The swimming platform is incredibly large – almost 9 square metres – and provides plenty of room for the launch and retrieval of tenders exceeding 4 metres in length or of jet skis.

Further forward, the space is divided into a large sun deck that can comfortably accommodate four people, and an area with a ‘C’-shaped sofa just aft of the windscreen, with further storage.

The fly: 42 square metres of versatile space lending itself to a variety of uses. The seating is a combination of ‘L’-shaped sofas that can be configured as desired. Alongside the helm, there are two sofas positioned in a ‘C’ facing the large table seating eight. The fly is an ideal place from morning to evening; a convenient and well-equipped bar unit has a barbecue, refrigerator and sink, but also houses a retractable 42-inch TV and constitutes the base for an elegant Plexiglas bar counter. Further aft, the second area offers maximum flexibility in terms of fittings: it can be left unencumbered, furnished with sofas, set aside for the tender or as a sun deck, or fitted with a hydromassage. The Azimut 80 yacht can also be constructed with an opening hard top and rolling awning towards the stern.

A sophisticated style is assured for the outdoor soft furnishings, lined in technological materials offering a ‘fabric’ effect. Coloured dark brown, they include some padded details.

In the engine room, the two 1550 hp MAN engines provide a top speed of 30 knots. The fuel tank has a capacity of 6,000 litres, while the water tank can contain 1,200 litres. As optional extras, the luxury yacht Azimut 80 can be fitted with electric CMC Marine stabilising fins or gyroscopic Seakeeper stabilisers.

China (Shanghai) International Boat Show 2013 closed its doors on April 14

April 17, 2013

This year’s 18th edition of China (Shanghai) International Boat Show closed its doors on April 14, 2013. It will take some time for the dust to settle and for organizers, exhibitors as well as visitors alike to decide whether the event was a success or otherwise.

China (Shanghai) International Boat Show

China (Shanghai) International Boat Show

As far as visitor numbers are concerned it should come as no surprise if, pre-show, numbers were expected to be down on last year with two primary reasons to expect this drop but the pundits who thought this would be the case were clearly wrong.

By a peculiar coincidence the Shanghai Formula One Grand Prix fell on the same weekend this year and with a bright sunny day on both the Saturday and Sunday, long queues could be seen on the highways heading to the circuit so a natural source of visitors for both events was split between the two.

Secondly and with a deeper seated impact in visitors to Shanghai in general is the current worry of Bird Flu, particularly in the part of the country that has Shanghai at its heart.

However, in spite of the competition and the health concerns, both of which took visitor numbers away, CIBS 2013 saw an increase of 10% in visitor numbers to just under thirty five thousand, 34,822 from 51 countries to be precise visiting around 500 exhibitors.

It would also appear from exit surveys that more visitors were better prepared prior to coming to the show indicating more serious visitors rather than just people lost for something to do. So once again the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show matched or exceeded the growth rates being experienced by the country as a whole, healthy in anyone’s calculation.

Too early yet for a correlation of business transacted, feedback from exhibitors ranged from that of those finding it interesting what was happening here in China through to some dealers not just finding interest in one boat but in cases fleets of boats with particular interest in smaller boats perhaps signaling a market shifting towards not just the very rich to the middle classes who are also being tempted to get on the water.

A wealthy city with (clearly) thousands of interested citizens, more exhibitors by far than any other show in Asia increasing the opportunities for potential owners to compare, a vast covered airy exhibiting space – why would you want to go anywhere else?

‘Sailing for Kids’ Charity Regatta supported by China (Shanghai) International Boat Show
The Charity Regatta hosted competing 23 boats on the water, there were 3 races sailed and the 1,200 dictionaries that will shortly be in the hands of the less fortunate kids in rural valleys in China. Actually that’s not really true – the sailors had fun, the organisers felt good by helping those less fortunate then themselves but the difference to those children who will receive those dictionaries is almost incalculable.

If just one ends up in a life position they might not have otherwise achieved due to the increased learning opportunities then it was worth not just the efforts of the day but 10 times that or more.

The 5th China (Shanghai) International Boat Show Charity Regatta was held on Dianshan Lake at the Shanghai Yacht Club & Resort (SYC&R) with Shanghai Boat & Yacht Club (SBYC) providing rescue cover.

Conditions could not have been better for either the sailors or the gathered spectators with 8-10 knots of breeze and clear sunny blue skies leading to exciting sailing. Too exciting for one or two teams who ended up with a short swim but SBYC’s rescue cover was on hand to make sure things didn’t get too serious.

The race management was provided by Team 4 Dragons (T4D) both on the water and correlating the results after the racing with the monohulls won by Uli & Lucia Biller in an RS Vision while the multihull class was won by Jonathan Kingdon crewed by Nicholas Poynder on a Taipan Catamaran.

At the end of day prizegiving the charity providing the dictionaries thanked all concerned for their efforts and gave a short report on the difference last uyear’s regatta had made to the kids.

A wonderful of inter-discipline cooperation by SYC&R, SBYC, CIBS and T4D where no thought was given to anyone’s ultimate benefit other than that of  over 1,000 under-privileged kids who will soon have brand new dictionaries that none of us might ever meet.

ASIAN MARINE & BOATING AWARDS 2013
The 4th running of the Asian Marine & Boating Awards attended by the genuinely great and the good of Chinese business community along with leading lights of the international marine Industry took place on the first evening of the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show at the Intercontinental Expo Hotel in Pudong, Shanghai.

Asia Boating Awards

Asia Boating Awards

The evening hosted by Alistair Skinner and Lillian Lee saw the winners in the sixteen categories well received by the gathered guests.

The evening was the culmination of a process that stated with nominations for each category from boating media in Asia and followed by a robust and independent voting procedure with more than 70 local mainstream media organizations.

Starting where many boaters start, with the small boats with the first category being, appropriately Best Dayboat, Sportboat or dinghy with the nominees being Ten, J-80, soto 27, Platu 25 and the RS Sailing Range. The category was won by not one boat but rather a complete range. The winner was the RS Sailing range which has “introduced more to sailing in recent years than any other type of boat having provided many thousands of people with their first introduction to sailing or actually owning a boat in Europe and are now bringing their expertise and range to Asia.”

Increasing the size somewhat was the category for sailing yachts under 45 feet. The nominees were the Dehler 38, the Dufour 36 Performance, the Hanse 415, the new Hunter 40 and the Chinese built Ker 40. The category was won by the Hanse 415, a “modern, yet slightly retro-styled yacht’ from a builder that has truly re-invented themselves in recent years.

The other side of 45 feet saw nominations including the British Southerly 47, the Danish Xp-50, from France the Jeanneau Sun Odessey 469 and the German Bavaria Vision 46.

Topping off the list were catamarans from two of the world’s best known cat builders, the Nautitech 542 and Catana 59.

The Philipe Briand designed Jeanneau Sun Odessey 469 won the category proving that “style and performance can indeed go together”.

Next up were the motor yachts starting with those under 40 feet were there was an international field of nominees with a strong European presence. However the British  Princess V39, German Bavaria Sport 39 and the Italian Cranchi Endurance 30 were upstaged by the Americans with the The Regal 35 Sport Coupe manufactured by what is still a family owned and run company taking away the prize.

In the next size range from 40 to 75 feet, again no one country dominated with the Ferretti 690, Monte Carlo 65, the Sunseeker Portofino 40, the Fairline Squadron 42, from the Pestige 620S and Sunreef 70 power cat.

It could be said that the Monte Carlo 65 is built under a combined Mediterranean influence. “From the bottom of her keel to the fop of her carbon fibre T-top this Italian operated yet French owned yard has produced a fine looking boat yet with her top speed of 30 knots she isn’t just for show.”

On to the big boys, Motor yachts over 75 with Sunseeker obviously impressing the judges producing two nominees the 28M (example is motor yacht Spontaneous) and the 40M yacht making up the nominee list were the Ferretti 124 Custom Line (example is superyacht Thalyssa) and IAG’s 100 foot luxury yacht Electra.

Superyacht Electra with design and naval architecture by YD&AS
IAG 100 Superyacht Electra

Despite 2 Sunseekers in the mix (perhaps they split the Sunseeker vote) the Ferretti Custom Line 124 took the award with a top speed of 27kts and sleek enough to be a patrol boat but with an interior no admiral ever enjoyed.

The penultimate boat category for Best Sports Boat shows with its number of nominations the popularity of this type of boat.

Running through them all there are the Chris Craft Corsair 32, the Quicksilver Activ 705, the Bayliner 642, the XO 240 RS, the Windy Kharma 26, the Riva Iseo yacht tender and the Regal 2300RX.

In spite of the large list of competitors it was the Chris Craft Corsair 32 superyacht tender, a new model but “enough signature elements to still be readily recognised as a Chris Craft which is a name that is almost as old as leisure boating itself. The company, named after its founder started building boats full time over an incredible 135 years ago so more than just a little experience built up over the years. “

The final category was the relative specialist category of Sports Fishing Boat. The nominees in this category are the Rodman 1250 Fisher Pro, the Barracuda 7, the Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless, the Bertram 57 and the Oceania 22C.

A varied list of candidates but te Boston Whaler carried off the category but the unsinkability and safety this brings impressed the judges with the company still sawing the odd boat in half to demonstrate their claim.

Having awarded trophies for individual baots the judges turned their attention to Best Brand Penetration in Asia.

As international a group of nominees as one could imagine with Sunseeker from the UK, the Chinese company, SeaStella, Feadship from Holland, Nautor Swan of Finland. From the United States, Brunswick Corporation and finally Jeanneau of France and with three individual nominees across the categories it came as no surprise when Sunseeker were announced winners.

Lots of pretty boats up to this point but what about those who draws them – The yacht Designer of the year had nominations for Bill Dixon who is well known in China, Phillipe Briand who across the years has designed everything from quarter tonners to superyachts, Mark Mills who has drawn some of the fastest sailing boats around, Axis Design from the powerboat world and Jason Ker, the man of the moment in the yacht racing world but up against some illustrious competition Axis Design won the award with an impressive client portfolio which includes the likes of Azimut, Perini Navi, Couach and SanLorenzo.

There are so many ways to judge the top regatta. China Cup has growth over the years to be the biggest yacht regatta in Asia, King’s Cup has a long history and great parties, the Neptune Regatta to the Equator and back has perhaps the widest net to attract entries from both sailboats and powerboats, the Round Hainan Regatta a brave attempt to bring long distance racing to China, the Top of the Gulf Regatta with the largest number of competing boats of all shapes and sizes and the China Club Challenge Match which has grown into the largest keelboat regatta for Chinese sailing clubs.

But after many years of being nominated, the winner China Cup International Regatta which had just over 90 entries in the latest edition carried the day.

To be the Asian Boating Capital of the Year requires many qualities. Facilities, activities, participants and many other factors. The nominees in this category were as follows; Sanya, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Singapore, Phuket. The winner, is Hong Kong is so popular amongst the water users, never mind the judges that all her marinas are virtually full. Waters already crowded by commerce are joined each weekend by 100’s of leisure users.

No other category runs the risk of hurting someone’s feelings like this one, the Asian Boating Personality of the Year. The nominees here include Xu Lijia who won China’s first sailing Gold Medal in a boat rather than on a board, Frank Pong a long time supporter of the growth of sailing in China and owner of more boats than some country’s navies and Russ Parker who since its inception has been Principal Race Officer of the China Cup and finally Chinese long distance sailor, Guo Chuan.

“I first met the winner some years ago in Qingdao on a cruising Hunter sailboat. He went on to become the first Chinese crew member on a Volvo 70 race boat around the world, race single handed across the Atlantic Ocean and just 6 days ago sailed back into Qingdao having spent 138 days at sea to become China’s first solo non-stop around the world sailor breaking the class record for that type of boat as well.“

In the category for Asian Yacht Cub of the Year there were nominations for Shanghai Yacht Club helping to develop small boat sailing here in the city, Royal Varuna Yacht Club responsible to amongst other things Asias most numerous regatta and Ironrock YC who have nurtured the China Club Challenge Match from a 2 team head to head in beat up old boats to one of China’s must do events with a number of the key members still finding time to sail around the world together in the past year and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.

“Sometime, just as in football you find your opponent is Manchester united or Barcelona so in sailing you find yourself up against a club with a 100 year plus history, more members than almost any other club in the world, 3 sailing bases and  regattas renowned the word over. To beat them in this category is never going to be easy.“

There are 4 nominations in the category for the Most Eco-Friendly marine Business, Hansheng Yachts for their solar Cruiser, Axis Design/Kingship for their Green Voyager yacht), Fountaine Pajot’s hybrid power catamarans and Torqueedo, manufacturers of a range of electric outboards, a category that was won by Hansheng Yachts for their new and novel use of solar power on a cruiser  currently floating on a city lake in Xiamen.

The final award, in some ways looks to the future, that for the Most Innovative Marine Company. Garmin were up for their recent launch of a GPS watch which amazingly also has the ability to provide remote control for some of the yacht’s functions.

Spinlock’s Deckvest got a nomination for its comfort making personal safety more sufferable, Hangsheng Yachts received a second nomination for their solar yacht while Yamaha was nominated or their helm-master Outboard Control System and it was that system that allows joystick control for multiple outboard engine boats to be controlled by a computer aided joystick that picked up the final award of the evening.

Final comments from the Judges Panel Chairman, Alistair Skinner once again highlighted the involved process that produced the final results on the evening, awards that had to be nominated, pondered over and voted for and correlated, winners AND nominees that  “deserved to be the category listings and were there on merit and not because they placed their advertising in a particular direction” and the deserving eventual winners, won against, in some cases, pretty stiff competition.

Hardly will these awards be put away and the whole process will start all over again.

April 12, 2013

On the occasion of the ninth edition of the Asia Boating Awards, an event organized by Blu Inc. (publishing group of “Asia Pacific Boating” and “China Boating” magazines), important awards were in fact assigned to boats that best represent the style and quality of two of the most prestigious brands of the Group: Azimut Yachts and Benetti.

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 yacht Petrus II was awarded the prize for the “Best Semi Custom Built Yacht” (over 30 meters), while Azimut Magellano 43 yacht was judged the best boat in the “Best Production Motor Yacht” category (up to 15 meters).

The awarding ceremony was held last March 29th, at the opening of the Hainan Rendez-Vous, a reference event in the Asian region for the luxury yachting sector, which has been capable of establishing itself successfully in a period of just four years.

“These awards represent an important sign of appreciation from the Asian market for our products and, in particular, the Chinese one”, says Giovanna Vitelli, Member of the Board of Directors for Azimut|Benetti. “The continued strengthening of the Group’s presence in the territory, together with new projects and boats that were specially created to better respond to local needs in terms of on-board lifestyle, represent commitments that were clearly recognized and that meet full consent.”

The yachts

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 superyacht Petrus II is the Benetti’s new gem, the first Classic model boat, which will be premiering in the USA at the 2013 Miami Boat Show. This boat is a new development in the exterior profile of Benetti yachts that has been masterfully interpreted by the boat’s designer, Righini, in full keeping with the rest of the Benetti 93 to 145 foot yacht range.

The new Benetti Classic Supreme 132 luxury yacht Petrus II is 40.24 metres in length with a maximum width of 8.28 metres. The design was inspired by the need to offer the market a boat that was even more competitive and at the same time that demonstrated Benetti’s constant innovation.

Azimut Magellano 43 yacht is the newest addition to the Azimut Yachts’ Magellano Collection for the 2012-2013 Season. Within 13 meters is a full concentration of the Magellano Collection features: smooth navigation in all conditions, excellent cruising range in a modern and Italian take on the traditional trawler. Destined not only for the high seas but also for inland waters navigation, it is available with two versions: flybridge and with hardtop to meet varying owner’s needs.

Azimut Magellano 43 Yacht

Azimut Magellano 43 Yacht

Luxury yacht Magellano 43 has a significant cruising range at 9-10 knots but it is ready to perform like a planning boat at any time and it is ready to accelerate and reach top speeds up to 18-22 knots. The boating experience is extremely smooth and comfortable at a range of different speeds thanks to the ‘Dual Mode’ hull, creating a reduction in pitch and a significant reduced impact with waves.

Singapore Yacht Show 2013 to feature huge choice of boats and yachts

Talk to the experts

Many of the show’s exhibitors are the exclusive Asia dealers for some of the world’s most popular boat brands. All experts in finding the perfect boat for customers, they are well placed to advise on any enquiries about the small boat market.

Hong Seh Marine is the Singapore dealer for brands including Cranchi, Viking Yachts and Riva. They will be presenting boats including the SIXTY4 HT hard top design; the 2013 flybridge 54 Fly model; and the Atlantique 40, all from the popular Cranchi range. Their Viking range allows offers huge choice, including sportsfishing and cruising yachts.

Long time supporters of the Show, Simpson Marine are the region’s exclusive dealer for enduringly popular brands including Azimut, Lagoon and Beneteau. They will have an impressive fleet on display at the Show that includes a range of mid to large Azimut models, catamarans from the industry-leading builder Lagoon, two of the latest Beneteau sailing models and the Beneteau Flyer 650 model.

Spoilt For Choice

There is plenty of choice on offer, no matter what you are looking for. For those considering sail over motor, Solaris Yachts build beautiful sailing yachts from 35ft to 100ft at their Italian yard. Designed for true lovers of the sea, they combine beautiful design, comfort and performance.

Aquacraft Asia Pte Ltd are also specialists in sailing yachts, and represent the German brand Hanse Yachts in both Singapore and Malaysia. Hanse Yachts offer superior designs, comfort, competitive prices and ease of sailing for a small crew.

Another sailing option comes from Ocean Quality Systems who will be presenting their 60ft Frers-designed Explorer C-60 catamaran yacht model to visitors.

Malaysian-based yacht dealership Pen Marine represent Italian brand Wider, whose range includes their stylish Wider ’42, the perfect choice for a day boat and a stepping stone into yachting.

As well as their strong position in the superyacht market, Princess Yachts and Sunseeker both have very popular sub-30m ranges on offer, starting at 39ft. Princess Yachts will be using the show for the Asian debut of the P52 model, and their P56 will be the first delivered to Asia. Sunseeker will have a 19m model on display at the show, and will also be promoting their range, which includes performance cruisers ideal for coastal exploring and sports yachts.

At the bigger end of the market, exhibitors Long Range Marine are currently building a 24-metre Realship Expedition Vessel at their new facility in Thailand. The yacht presents a spacious and quality option for the more adventurous buyer.

Fun on the Water

Small watercraft, jet skis and tenders offer endless entertainment on the water. Official tender supplier of the Show is La Marca Marine, the exclusive dealer for the ZAR-Formenti line of RIBs. Their boats, which come in a wide range of models, feature a patented design which marries the advantages of the space and stability of a rigid hull boat with the high-performance and safety of a rigid inflatable boat (RIB).

Supratechnic will be returning to the Show, and represents brands including Williams Jet Tenders and Waverunner jet skis. Williams’ Turbojet models combine speed and comfort to provide fun on the water: a versatile option, they can be used as standalone boats, or as a support tender for a mother vessel.

As Asian buyers have snapped up large production yachts in the 100-foot fiberglass category, strong industry interest in the Best Production Motor Yacht 24m-to-40m class has grown. Princess Yachts of the UK walked off with this prize for their highly regarded Princess 40M yacht Imperial Princess. Ferretti Yachts of Italy were very pleased with their victory in the Best Production Motor Yacht 15m-to-24m class with their newly released F690, a fiiting reward for all the firm’s recent efforts in ramping up its Asian operations.

A very successful Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 for Azimut-Benetti Group

April 03, 2013

Taken place from 30 March to 2 April, the recently concluded Hainan Rendez-Vous featured the two prestigious brands in the Azimut|Benetti Group that specialise in flybridge and open yachts. The brands presented some exclusive new developments for the Chinese market: the special Azimut Dragon yacht models as well as Atlantis 38 yacht model, which is making its premiere on the Asian market for the Atlantis open-cruiser brand, that has been particularly appreciated.

With its own offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Group is continuing its consolidation strategy in the country through its commitment to meeting and interpreting local culture and demands, while staying faithful at the same time to its company philosophy and the values that have made its brands icons of luxury that are highly appreciated around the world.

Numerous awards and acknowledgments received, crown Azimut as top brand of the  Chinese boating world.

Paolo Casani, Azimut Yachts and Atlantis CEO, pointed out: “We are the largest private Group in the world in the maritime sector. We owe our 44 years of success to an extremely well thought-out development policy. This carefully planned, gradual growth strategy can count on the reliability of unique ownership and is perfectly exemplified by the steps we take when tackling the various markets, including China: getting to know the customs and culture, building up a sound, expert presence that can guarantee excellent before and after-sales services, investing in specially designed models and offering exclusive services to boat owners. Our mission is to build the most beautiful, reliable and innovative yachts and guarantee the best assistance anywhere in the world.”

THE NEW AZIMUT DRAGON MODELS
Azimut’s mission is perfectly illustrated by one of this year’s great new developments that will certainly be of interest to anyone who appreciates luxury and Italian quality.

To provide its Asian, and in particular Chinese, clientele with the best boating experience, Azimut Yachts has devised made-to-measure concepts and styles for this market: the result is the Azimut Dragon China project. The first Azimut models to appear in ‘Dragon China’ version will be: the Azimut 64 Dragon China, the Azimut 70 Dragon China and the Azimut 80 Dragon China (interior design and concept by Azimut Style Department), and the Azimut 88 Dragon China (interior design and concept by Achille Salvagni Architetti). This single, coherent project follows the logic of the various models’ characteristics and has been designed to satisfy specific local requirements.

The main focus of the designers was to create a convivial, sociable atmosphere, interpreting the various aspects involved so that the philosophy of “being together” could be turned into tangible, functional solutions. The spaces were therefore organized to revolve around the large areas for games, karaoke and the large dining room. Attention was then paid to the level of privacy and service on board, with crew areas kept apart and independent from the rest of the yacht.

These splendid yachts have an Oriental air, creating an enchanting mood with meticulous finishings and details that are unique and unmistakable: real Italian Style by Azimut Yachts.

A first look at the main deck reveals the main distinctive features: the large dining room with a round table on a raised level and adjoining living room area with comfortable sofas encourage guests to be sociable and spend time together.

The lower deck is totally given over to entertainment and is the second focal point in a layout that gives free rein to people who love spending their time having fun with friends and loved ones.

The central section comprises an area with an elegant Mahjong table and professional karaoke system, while the relaxation areas with cosy sofas guarantee some private time when needed. The bar area is comfortable and the generously sized kitchen is located on the same level, but isolated as much as possible from the rest of the spaces.

The elegant atmosphere and the functional division of space makes it ideal for hosting private gatherings or business meetings from time to time.

In all areas, light matt wood in ivory, cream and dove-grey colours alternates with varnished elements with exquisite details in glossy dark wood, creating an ingenious contrast of shades and games of light. The overall effect is very bright and is the perfect complement to the sophisticated mood thanks to the carefully selected materials used.

Of course Azimut Yachts’ future projects do not end here. Two new models, the already mentioned motor yacht Azimut 80 and Azimut 95RPH superyacht (exteriors designed by Stefano Righini and interior style and concept designed by Achille Salvagni Architetti) will be launched worldwide in second half of 2013: visitors at the Hainan Rendez-Vous will have the honour of being able to see the first exclusive images at the stand.

ATLANTIS BY AZIMUT DEBUTS ON THE CHINESE MARKET WITH THE ATLANTIS 38
Making its first appearance in China at Hainan is the Atlantis by Azimut brand, a collection of Azimut|Benetti Group sport-cruisers. A combination of pure Italian sportiness and creativity, they are the result of the skill and inspiration of the best Italian designers and are dedicated to those who like real thrills.

They are not merely stylish and a perfect balance in terms of quality and value, but they also offer safety and high performance thanks to the highest, technological standards, guaranteed By Azimut. The collection ranges six models from 34 to 60 feet including the wonderful Verve, a comfortable and secure walkaround for mid-range cruising.

Luxury motor yacht Atlantis 38 has been chosen to represent the entire collection, as she interprets her concept perfectly: sporty style and superb liveability both inside and out thanks to the adaptable spaces.

In Atlantis 38 yacht’s twelve metres one will find all the brand’s distinctive features: a sleek, aggressive line, a sporty hull, and windows and hard top integrated into the yacht’s lines, which is what makes the brand so recognisable. This 38 footer is also the perfect example of the Atlantis by Azimut brand’s skill in building yachts that are manoeuvrable and safe, whatever the conditions.

Cabo Marine Show 2013, May 1 – 4

March 29, 2013

For the last 4 years, Cabo Marine Show has been annually hosted by the IGY Marina in Cabo San Lucas, situated in the lovely yacht charter destination – Mexico. The 2013 event will take place from May 1 to 4, expecting to draw over 4,000 visitors from mainland Mexico, the US as well as Canada to explore the best nautical and marine industry products and services that Mexico has to offer.

CABO

There are many reasons as to why projections have visitor numbers increase more than double since the Show’s debut four years ago. In 2012, the dates were modified to accommodate the G20 Summit held in Los Cabos, pushing the event back to the first week of July. In addition, the economy has drastically improved compared to 2011 and 2012 in Los Cabos. Lastly, the safety and security found in the destination is unparalleled and people have come to understand this fact.

Sergio Igartua, Founder of the Cabo Marine Show explains more about this year’s high expectations, “For the 2013 event, we are expecting more than 1,000 visitors per day during our new four-day event program. We also will have up to 50 industry exhibitors ranging from yacht brokers to marine industry brands and makes such as Azimut, Bertram, Beneteau, Fairline, Sea-Doo, Suzuki and Mercury Marine, among others such as the privately owned charter yacht Spirit of Two Thousand & Ten.”

Spirit of Two Thousand and Ten - Cruising

Spirit of Two Thousand and Ten - Cruising

Oscar Avalos, Director of MAA+Eventos, the Mexico City based events management company in charge of this year’s Cabo Marine Show, is excited about this year’s event. “Some of the major differences between last year’s event and this year are the dates. We are moving the event to earlier in the year in lieu of better weather that will guarantee a greater number of visitors. Plus, the selected dates are considered a domestic “puente” (holiday weekend),” said Oscar.

“The format of the show does carry good change too. This year will be a four-day event when in the past the event ran for three days. Lastly, we have chosen an afternoon-only schedule with event hours from 5pm-10pm daily.”

The Cabo Marine Show is much more than a nautical event. It is about creating a network between exhibitors and local business owners as well. The show features more than 50 local, national and international companies with dozens of the newest boats, gadgets, engines, marine gear and accessories.

Another new aspect to the 4th Annual Cabo Marine Show is the hiring of Synergy, a Mexico-based Marketing and PR agency. Seth Romans, Owner of Synergy says, “Last year was an extremely successful event in many ways. Not only was it a great way to connect to other exhibitors, I actually sold a boat. This year, my company expects to help generate more awareness through our international partners while working with the local community, resorts, hotels and business owners to make the 2013 event the most successful to date.”

The Cabo Marine Show is unique in the sense that it offers live entertainment nightly, with local musicians playing for the public. With a superior location on the marina waterfront, access to the top restaurants and hottest bars is another perk. Today, it is the only boat show in Mexico that offers an open-air, in-water setting with free admission to the general public in the heart of the downtown area in Cabo San Lucas.
