The World First Two-Man Planing Submarine Q-Sub 2400 almost completed

January 31, 2012

The world first, two-man, planing submarine called the Q-Sub 2400, designed by Hugh Fulton, from the New Zealand´s Q-Sub Ltd, is nearing completion. The story of the Q-Sub and its development is one of typical Kiwi determination, doggedness and a willingness to find new solutions to apparently insurmountable problems.

The World First Two-Man Planing Submarine Q-Sub 2400

The Q-Sub 2400 is capable of travelling at 20 knots on the surface, and diving to a depth of 400 ft. It is made to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) and GL requirements, and eliminates the logistical problems of conventional submarines which require surface ships for tenders to lift them from the water.

The Q-Sub has been engineered to make submarining as easy and enjoyable as possible. It has the feel of driving an exclusive two-person sports car, comparable to that of a Ferrari, yet has large acrylic side windows for easy viewing of passing sea life and underwater scenery. The unique and lightweight design of the Q-Sub allows it to travel quickly along the surface of the water like a regular speed boat, giving potential for multiple dives at different locations and eliminating the restrictions of other personal submersibles.

Q-Subs Ltd has associations with many other international manufacturers of submarines and is a member of P Subs – an USA based organisation which ‘promotes and encourages discussion of safety, design, construction and operation of personal submersibles’.

Triton 36,000 – The World´s Deepest Diving Multi-Passenger Submersible

January 17, 2012

The world’s most advanced submarine company, Triton Subs in collaboration with high pressure glass fabricator Rayotek Scientific, have created a full ocean depth submersible that will revolutionize man’s relationship with the deep ocean.

Triton 36,000 - The World´s Deepest Diving Multi-Passenger Submersible

Triton 1000/2 Submersible

With a planned descent rate of 500 feet per minute, the deepest spot in the ocean, at 35,800 ft., can be reached in approximately 75 minutes.

The Triton 36,000 Full Ocean Depth Submersible’s pressure hull utilizes Rayotek’s patented manu-facturing process and proprietary technologies to produce a sphere of high-strength specialty glass. Glass has been successfully used in deep submergence for more than 40 years and some spheres have been rated to almost 30,000 ft. (9,000 meters).

The Triton 1000/2 Full Ocean Depth Submersible

Rayotek’s proprietary technology is capable of overcoming previous manufacturing limitations and producing perfect spheres of sufficient diameter to accommodate three occupants. By incorporating no metallic  elements or through hull penetrations in the pressure boundary, the design takes advantage of the fact that up to a very high limit, glass becomes stronger with greater compression.

The Triton is designed for both scientific and commercial work, and requires a minimum of support equipment and personnel.

All life support is internal to the pressure hull and control and monitoring functions are carried out by wireless fiber optic systems that transmit light through the glass hull as projections on the inside walls controlled with touch-screen functionality. The glass is protected from point impact by internal and external acrylic sheaths.

New Abyss Boards water toy that lets you ‘fly’ underwater

December 14, 2011

Abyss Boards LLC, a newly-established watersport company, introduces  a boat towable board that permits its rider to dive and cruise underwater. The Abyss Board presents tricks and maneuvers while exploring beneath the surface. Wakeboarding, waterskiing and other towable watersports are limited to the surface. The Abyss Boards introduces the first board that can be ridden both above, and below the wake.

“It combines fighter jet maneuvers with underwater exploration, there’s really nothing like it,” said Eric Healy, aeronautical engineer and Abyss Board inventor. “Cruising on the Abyss Board allows you to explore underwater landscapes and see marine life in a new way”.

The Abyss Board is about the size of a boogie board except it has hand grips and a wing on either side. It’s towed by a boat at about 8-10mph. With simple movements of the controls, the rider can dive, ascend, carve and do barrel rolls. The front of the board deflects water around the rider’s shoulders and arms to decrease water resistance. The board’s design makes it safe and easy to use. When the rider lets go or if the boat stops it floats back to the surface. Since it is designed to be used with a life jacket, the rider floats back up as well. A snorkel is used to take breathes in between dives.

Abyss Boards was founded by Eric Healy after three years of research and development. Healy, with a background in airplane design, developed the board in Bend Oregon. He made many prototypes by hand and tested them in the clear waters of Cultus Lake, Oregon. The Abyss Board is currently being manufactured from the Seattle Washington facility.

December 06, 2011

Yamaha Motor New Zealand is proud to introduce the new 2012 WaveRunner line up for water sport enthusiasts or those looking for a new and exciting superyacht toy. With such a diverse range super yacht owners will be able to find just the right WaveRunner to satisfy their needs.

main_2012_yamaha_waverunners

The “big news” development for the 2012 range is the introduction of a redesigned FX series. Defined as Yamaha’s “Luxury Performance” flagship models, the FX series has always delivered the kind of quality and performance that is synonymous with the Yamaha brand.  In 2012, the FX line has been refined even further with a completely redesigned hull and deck, improving the ride quality as well as the functionality and versatility of the craft as a whole.

Increased hull length of 19cm and softer outside edge design improves both straight line ride and handling. Enhancements to rider features such as new three person stadium seating – raised seating positions for passengers allowing them to see forward past the driver, increased storage and enlarged swim platform make all the things people love about the current version of this craft even better.

The new FX SHO (top) sharp looks and refined performance and Yamaha’s FZS (bottom) – the extreme rider’s weapon of choice.

The FX series comes in 4 models, the supercharged FX Cruiser SHO and FX SHO and non supercharged models FX Cruiser HO and FX HO, catering for different riding styles and motivations. The new FX series will be available in March 2012.

Yamaha’s high performance muscle craft, the FZS, returns in 2012 with the same race inspired attitude that has made it the weapon of choice for riders who crave extreme performance. Powered by Yamaha’s Supercharged 1.8 litre marine engine, the largest PWC engine on the market, the FZS delivers awesome hole shot performance and exciting handling. The Yamaha FZS is the only performance PWC that is optimised to run on 91 ULP, a saving every time you pull up to fuel. In 2012 the FZS will be available in two colour options, velocity yellow and electric green, and replaces the two seater version FZR which has been discontinued i n the ANZ market.

The Yamaha VX18R delivers the kind high performance customers usually expect from a larger supercharged craft in a great value package.

Yamaha’s VX series continues to please both entry level customers and customers looking for a great value performance package. One craft that fits squarely into the value performance category is the Yamaha VX18R. Sharing the smaller VX hull design, built from Yamaha’s super light weight NanoXcel material, and powered by Yamaha’s big capacity 1.8 litre engine, the Yamaha VX18R provides the kind of performance usually expected in bigger supercharged craft but at a much lower price tag. Having the advantage of being both the lightest and powered by the biggest engine in its class allows the VX18R to deliver power and handling that is truly astounding.

The VX Deluxe offers customers and superyacht owners a simple way to hit the water this summer.

For the rider who wants simplicity Yamaha’s VX1100 series answers the call. The VX1100 range offers all the best bits about owning a WaveRunner in a great value and easy to use package. The VX series is available in three models, the VX Sport, VX Deluxe and VX Cruiser.

These three models are all powered by Yamaha’s 1052cc engine which is actually a marinised version of the engine found in Yamaha’s all conquering R1 Supersport motorcycle.

The VX Sports model is a “just add water” package, a quick and agile performer. The VX Deluxe has some extra refinements such as reverse and a remote immobiliser for extra security while the VX Cruiser has all the features of the Deluxe model but with the added comfort of a high back cruiser seat. Match these features with sharp looks, great handling and the best fuel economy in its class and it’s easy to see why these models are so popular in the New Zealand market.

In the age of high performance three seat personal watercraft it’s easy to forget that the modern PWC evolved from the humble “stand up” style watercraft. Far from being outdated, this style of riding is experiencing rejuvenated popularity driven by a world wide obsession with freestyle riding and competition.

Yamaha’s SuperJet has under gone continued development over recent years improving stability, agility and increasing acceleration. With a more physically demanding style of riding and the ability to carve and bank into turns the SuperJet is the perfect craft for riders who crave a challenging and exciting ride.

While other manufacturers have pulled out of the stand up segment in recent times, Yamaha is committed to continuing in this market for many more years to come. With a sharp new paint job and decals in 2012 the Yamaha SuperJet looking striking and is an exciting way to hit the water this summer, while cruising on your preferred luxury charter yacht.

30′ Como Trenta yacht tender by Werner Yacht Design

October 18, 2011

A few years ago designer Theo Werner of Werner Yacht Design received an inquiry for a large and fast classic runabout motor yacht design. During the design process, not only the designer and the client, but also the shipyard (Hans Visser – Visser Compas, The Netherlands) developed a great passion for the yacht and her stunning design lines. From this passion, a new smaller version was created – a Werner 30′ superyacht tender – ‘Como Trenta’.

30ft yacht tender Como Trenta by Werner Yacht Design

The Werner Yacht Design created 30′ yacht tender – COMO TRENTA  has a nice blend of the American runabouts and Italian speedboats of the nineteen fifties era. Her detailing and finishes are as precise as on any given superyacht. The design of her underwater body is well balanced, providing a comfortable ride in high waves with the construction designed according to Lloyd’s Register regulations.

Although Werner 30′ yacht tender Como Trenta has a classic look, she combines the best of classic American runabouts and modern speedboats, in order to increase comfort and decrease the impact of incoming waves. This is achieved by a combination of a deep-V aft body, very fine waterlines in the bow and considerable flare in the forward sections allowing to deflect spray.

The 30′ runabout form Werner Yacht Design also attracted the attention of Ramon Urristi and Rienaldo Ghisa. At first only attracted by large motor yachts, they have instantly fell in love with the tender. They convinced Hans Visser and the designer Theo Werner of its potentials once the tender was built in series. They recognised the uniqueness in the combination of the classic design, blended with ease of handling and the level of finish. This combination of factors is what is sought after by private or charter yacht owners, who mostly prefer to have a decent replacement for a RIB on board or just a small toy boat at the club.

Urristi and Ghisa acquired the exclusive dealership for the tender and ordered two more tenders built to this design. Investigation is under way in order to find a best way to expand these stunning series. The Como Trenta yacht tender is exclusively distributed and branded by Como International BV in The Netherlands.

Jetlev Flyer – the latest superyacht toy that will make your charter guests fly!

August 11, 2011

Jetlev-Flyer is the latest must-have superyacht toy, that guarantees your charter guests have an incredible and exciting time on the water. The Jetlev-Flyer is assembled and built in Germany by the company’s engineers and experts using almost exclusively German made parts.

Jetlev-Flyer in action - the latest motor yacht toy for your yacht charter guests

Jetlev-Flyer in action - the latest motor yacht toy for your yacht charter guests

The Jetlev-Flyer is made with only the best material available. This is one of the reasons why the company have developed the Jetlev-Flyer for many years.

The Jetlev-Flyer has a two years warranty. The exclusive Carbon Fiber Version of the Jetlev-Flyer is now available for ordering from the MS Watersports GmbH Germany. The Jetlev-Flyer is made of the strongest and most reliable materials. Every part of the Jetlev-Flyer is painstakingly made with great precision. All the water seals on the Jetlev-Flyer are made with the same high grade O-ring systems that one finds in deep sea systems. To keep moisture out, critical cables are protected with military style braided stainless steel sleeves and the electronic modules and cable terminations are encapsulated with tough polyurethane. No expense is spared to make the Jetlev-Flyer system as reliable and low maintenance as possible.

Technical features:

- High power-to-weight ratio:

Traditional designs of airplanes suffer from low thrust-to-weight ratios which limit their performance and agility. Even F/A-18 E/F fighter jets can barely overcome the force of gravity. To achieve a dramatic improvement in this ratio, we decided to locate the propulsion source on a separate boat-like unit, and transmit low pressure, high flow water to the jetpack through a supply hose and generate thrusts by nozzle reaction force.

- Inherent stability and effortless control:

Even though the jetpack can generate upwards of 500 lbf (2220 N) of thrust for lift and propulsion, the flight controls are isolated from that thrust and only take a few ounces of effort to adjust.

- Simple, intuitive flight controls:

Fly-by-wire digital throttle control; nozzles angles determine allocation of thrust between lift and propulsion (forward, neutral or reverse); differential nozzle deflection generates yaw moments; and weight shifting from side-to-side generates roll moments.

- Flexible supply hose/tether:

A flexible water supply hose delivers power to the jetpack with pressurized water. It also serves as the tether, enforces a flight ceiling, discourages the pilot from flying over land, acts as a stabilizer, dampens vibrations, and maintains forward heading stability of the jetpack in flight.

A must have superyacht toy: Jetlev-Flyer
