February 17, 2012

The new motor yacht 95 Raised Pilothouse is the latest stunning vessel, created by the US shipyard Hatteras Yachts, expected to be officially presented in the Summer of 2013. “The 95 RPH will be our new flagship, and is the yacht we wanted to develop for all of our existing motor yacht customers. In addition, we envision her to be our brand ambassador as Hatteras expands into new and resurging markets – such a China, Australia and South America,” states Jim Meyer, president and chief executive officer of Hatters Yachts.

“Our product development and manufacturing teams made a tremendous statement in the marketplace with our GT Series. To have created a new line-up of sportfishing convertibles with best-in-class performance, fit-and-finish, build strength, and pricing is an achievement of which we are very proud. We are all very excited to now turn our efforts toward the 95 RPH and make the same kind of statement in the large motor yacht market.”

Hatteras has drawn on its 52 years of history, outside consultants from around the world and inspiration derived from some of the finest mega yachts afloat to design the luxury yacht 95 RPH. Classic beauty and unrivaled craftsmanship, ship-like features and amenities, along with everything one typically expects to find in a Hatteras yacht define this new flagship.

With a massive flybridge, an overall length of 100 feet, and a beam of 22 feet, 6 inches, her entertainment spaces and interior volume are easily compared to a mega-yacht much larger in size. Not only does the Hatteras superyacht 95 RPH deliver on volume, she will also be outfitted like a much larger yacht – featuring content such as a grand side entry with spiral staircase, twin anchors with heavy-duty windlasses and integral chaffing plates as well as optional on-deck master suite.

This new flagship of the Hatteras fleet will be offered as a heavily contented, turnkey package. “Everything from Zero-Speed stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters and a premium A/V system to a stocked wine cooler, bath robes and linens are included,” says Meyer. Also included is an electronics allowance that will easily outfit a true captain’s pilothouse, equipping it to meet the demands of cruising in exotic seas across the globe.

The standard layout features a four-stateroom/four-head arrangement with a full-beam master suite, twin staterooms to both starboard and port, and a VIP suite forward. An optional arrangement delivers the same spacious four-stateroom arrangement below, plus a master suite on the main deck. On the flybridge, the design team created an innovative line of modular furniture that allows this space to be customized to the specific needs of the customer.

A luxurious al fresco dining suite, comfortable lounges, custom wet bar and more are all available to create a truly unique outdoor space. An observation lounge lies at the bow and an additional dining area can be found on the aft deck under the protection of the flybridge overhang. Crew quarters reside aft of the engine room, and are easily accessed by a bustle door in the transom or a discrete stairwell off the aft deck.

“This new model will offer the amenities of a much larger vessel, but with a more responsible price tag,” says Meyer. “Our current customers are asking for something larger than our current 80MY, without the expense of crewing and maintaining a mega-yacht. We feel certain that the 95 Raised Pilothouse will speak to the needs of both our domestic and international owners.”

“I have the utmost confidence in the Hatteras Team. Our designers, engineers and craftsmen in New Bern are world-class. I would stack their work up against any other yacht builder. Anything less, would not be a Hatteras.”

New motor yacht Absolute 72 Fly by Absolute Yachts due to be launched in Spring 2012

February 16, 2012

The Italian shipyard, Absolute Yachts is getting ready for the Spring launch of a new great caliber diamond: the motor yacht Absolute 72 Fly. Featuring the quality and elegance of the Made in Italy, the Absolute 72 Fly yacht is a stunning flybridge vessel being built on the success of the Absolute 70 STY yacht. She is the result of an excellent work of the company “Study Centre”.

The Absolute 72 Fly Yacht by Absolute Yachts

The Absolute 72 Fly Yacht by Absolute Yachts

On the basis of this project, there are two key figures of the nautical market. Angelo Gobbi, big name in the boating industry, who has dedicated his life to imagine, develop and believe in a product that proves to be more and more fascinating. And Sergio Maggi, Absolute Designer, creator of the Absolute “Diamond Spearhead” design, with his high professional team.

More than ever, the luxury yacht Absolute 72 is characterized by the true spirit of innovation. The boat has an extraordinary transparency and a nice balance in infrastructure. Its line has a refined and aggressive personality that stands out from competitors because of its unprecedented sportsmanship that can turn heads with its prominence.

Boarding can be done through the gangway and through the accesses side: the cockpit has dimensions that amaze: the presence of a large sofa as well as table and peaks that are very useful for marine activities, are the main actors in this area. This is an ideal place to spend time with friends and enjoy the summer evenings in comfort.

Absolute 72 Flybridge yacht is characterized by the great comfort that can have a boat of this size. The scale up to the flybridge is integrated in the same boat structure, allowing a high comfort in accessing to the upper deck. The latter has been elegantly furnished with a sofa and a table for 8 people and in front of the table, there are a cabinet with a grill, sink and refrigerator.

The Absolute 72 Fly Yacht Interior

The Absolute 72 Fly Yacht Interior

The driving console is for 2 persons and it is ergonomic and well protected, positioned to give optimum visibility. Beside the same, there is a large sunbathing where one can enjoy the sun. At the aft flybridge area, there is a customizable area, featuring a comfortable shower to cool the hot afternoons and to play with water pearls in full carefree.

The bow area is versatile, equipped with a great sofa and a table to enjoy the horizon in the complete privacy. The guests can also have a large sunbathing or sun loungers: here one can enjoy the landscape and be lulled by the sweet feeling of freedom on the sea.

Returning to the stern, through the convenient side passageways, the guests can find the entrance door for the galley made of mirrored glass that enhances the environment giving it a touch of refinement, but when the door opens, the galley appears in all its breadth. In fact the door has six leafs in order to create a single large comfortable room.

As in other units of the Absolute range flybridge dated 2012, also for the new 72 yacht, the windows are on the entire length of the boat and they allow maximum visibility from the driver’s seat.

From the outside, the 72 feet looks like a real gallery of crystal. Regarding the inside, all large windows offer more brightness and sublimate the view giving the feeling to be into a veranda on the sea. The interior is very nice and shows great ergonomics thanks to clear and warm colours such as the “Noce Canaletto” and details with dark brown veins in relief. Here one can find the result of a detailed study, aimed to achieve levels of comfort close to perfection.

The division of space allows the creation of three different areas. First of all, the large living room with two sofas facing each other. Going to starboard bow, one can find the dining area, with a rectangular walnut table with n. 8 chairs. Thanks to this area, it is easy to forget to be on a boat since everything is very spacious and comfortable “as in own home.”

However, the great outside landscape, offered by the large side windows, refreshes the charm and serenity of a relaxing dinner at anchor, where the view extends free in nature. On the port side, one can find the kitchen, built as an open space plan to share with friends and family also the time of preparing cocktails or dinner: it is for this reason that there is a sofa at the bow of the kitchen. In any case this area is made of the high-quality materials and functionality of the equipment are the masters.

But it is definitely the console to capture the attention of those who love to drive the boat all year: large display, carefully planned ergonomics to make this position comfortable for the execution of the manoeuvres thanks also to the side door. Moreover, the mooring operations can be carried out also by the cockpit when the docking station is required.

The lower deck of the Absolute 72 Flybridge yacht is fully dedicated to the rooms. Thanks to an optimization of the volume – conducted ably – this new model has a layout with n. 4 complete and fully functional cabins and 3 toilets. The ownership’s cabin is obviously full beam and it has large side windows, the double bed is at the centre of the cabin where the owners find their complete privacy to the fullest capabilities.

At the desk one can have internet access and on comfortable sofa for spending time engrossed in reading or in music water’s edge. On the starboard side there is a cabinet with drawers and a fridge handy for small needs. Moreover, the ownership has a walk-in closet where the outfits can be hung. The toilet of this cabin has two sinks and a large shower with seat to enjoy serenely bath time as in a SPA.

At bow area, there is the VIP cabin where the great side windows fill with light, making welcoming environment and exalting the refined nuances of furniture equipped with two tall cabinets. Even in this case, the guests have a private toilet with a large shower with seat. The two central cabins are furnished with twin beds, the port side cabin has a direct access to the toilet flanked at the same. The toilette has a shower and a door to go at the corridor so that it can also be used as a daily toilet.

In the aft, there is the crew cabin, with two single beds, side by side thanks to the volumes which offer greater comfort. This cabin can be also equipped with a kitchen dedicated to the crew and a separated shower in the toilette that can be richly furnished in order to be used by guests after a fun swim.

The propulsion of the Absolute range between 40 and 72 feet (sport cruisers, sport yachts and flybridge) is entirely made with Volvo Penta IPS system. By 2006, the Absolute shipyard has been a pioneer in adopting this solution, whose technology is unparalleled today, the only one able to guarantee the best results – in an integrated way – of performance, fuel economy, lower emissions, comfort, areas of housing and ease the housing for operation.

Absolute is sure that the key concepts in the design of safe and reliable craft should be guided directly to the more traditional solutions: this is possible thanks to its creative forty years of experience.

Nevertheless, Absolute has demonstrated in all its history that the technological innovation has to be flanked to the secure and reliable tradition in order to realized true excellence project: with Absolute 72 fly yacht, Volvo Penta IPS offers even to the most conservative world of offshore yachts their undoubted talents have been recognized and imposed in the sportive units segment.

From today, with Absolute 72 fly also the bigger yachts can enjoy the versatility and ease of use, low costs and high availability, large living space, silence and respect for the environment, without sacrificing cruising performance suited for a large pleasure craft. With Absolute 72 fly, the most dynamic shipyard of Made in Italy continues its course, and strengthens its philosophy: Absolute is not only a brand, but it is the most innovative expressions of love for the sea.

The 20th Anniversary of the Van Oossanen Naval Architects studio

February 16, 2012

The Dutch design studio, Van Oossanen Naval Architects celebrated its 20th anniversary on 26th January, hosted by the founder of the studio, Peter van Oossanen. It was also a good occasion to welcome two new shareholders of the company, Perry van Oossanen and Niels Moerke. One of the examples of an excellent work of this renowned studio is the revolutionary Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDFH) used on the Heesen 50m explorer yacht YN 16750.

As members of half a dozen America’s Cup design teams and thanks to their continuous work on yachts, commercial & military vessels, Van Oossanen Naval Architects have developed and implemented cutting edge design technology and used that technology in hundreds of designs.

The results of intensive commercial research campaigns as well as their own in-house research projects, provide them with the knowledge and the understanding of the underlying physics and principles of what constitutes an optimum design, as well as a thorough knowledge of the driving features in each new concept.

Together with their practical experience obtained on the water, this is of paramount importance when making important decisions in the earliest design stage, and when optimizing the design in the final design stage to meet each requirement in the design brief.

Nowadays, Van Oossanen Naval Architects are as often approached by yards as they are by private clients to develop new concepts and provide the associated preliminary and final design. Often they manage the tendering process for private clients, as well as the detailed engineering and project management for yards.

Arista Marina 24m catamaran yacht Phantom – a superyacht support vessel

February 15, 2012

The 24m catamaran yacht Phantom, developed by the Croatian yard, Arista Marina Group is a unique, innovative and versatile superyacht support vessel, featuring very appealing contemporary styling. The motor yacht Phantom´s clean lined silhouette represents a phantom like shadow on the water. The yard has already completed a 72m superyacht and is currently working on the conversion of a 120m vessel.

Phantom  has  taken  the  role  of  the  SSV  or  shadow  vessel,  and  given  it  a contemporary twist. With its 12m beam contributing to the 210 m.sq of deck storage area the phantom has the carrying capacity of a much larger monohull vessel. Carrying the tenders and toys is just one of the support functions that the Phantom provides.

The catamaran platform is very stable, and as such the vessel makes an ideal day boat.  It is finely appointed with all the amenities of the best beach club. The large open deck is close to the water so with its’ wide swim stairs and transom ladders, access to the sea is easy and fun. This can be a great asset for family’s, particularly those with young children.  There is a small pool on the foredeck, with sufficient room to surround it with several luxurious sun loungers, and there is a small bar and galley for food and beverage preparation.  Providing the perfect companion to any charter.

Cleared of the tenders and toys the aft deck of the Phantom can become a great venue, for BBQ’s and parties. The deck has plenty of shade, and below decks there is an air-‐conditioned  lounge for guests wanting relief from the sun, and a day bed for those fancying an afternoon siesta.

Ideally suited for existing yachts without a large modern beach club transom the Phantom offers a means for guests to get more connected to the sea. More toys, more  space  and  a  large  deck  nearer  to  sea-‐level  can  only  enhance  the  whole yachting experience.

For owners embarking on a new build project the Phantom gives more freedom of design when agreeing space allocations. Internal volume dedicated to ever more technical tender garages can be kept to a sensible level if the yacht is set up to operate in conjunction with the Phantom catamaran SSV.

Operating a yacht with a support vessel has other advantages too. Additional owners team staff members such as beauticians, valet’s and security staff can be accommodated on the supporting vessel, a big asset if the ‘mother yacht’ is classified for only twelve guests. Some owners see value in letting the crew go to the escorting vessel for a well-‐earned break away from the close confines and pressures of the main yacht.

As an option Phantom can also be used for helicopter operations assuring additional safety for the mother ship and allowing owners and designers more freedom and use of space on their yacht.

The Phantom can be built to operate as an occasional helicopter landing pad. Many existing superyachts do not have a landing platform so the Phantom ‘H’ variant offers that capability at a very efficient price. For new builds, not having the helicopter onboard the main yacht makes for more simple construction and class issues, and most designers will be happy not to have to work an unsightly platform into the styling concept of the new yacht

Naval architect Cedric Ardoin aptly designed an elegant multipurpose catamaran yacht Deep Blue combining “open sporting” style with advanced technologies that support efficient submarine operations with the full line-up of U-Boat Worx submarines.

The Deep blue yacht is dedicated for day charter with limited crew requirements. However, this support vessel can still shelter 12 passengers from the rain and spray and accommodate all their diving equipment. Moreover, the choice of engines includes an inboard diesel and a class 4 water jet, ensuring a 25 to 30 knot cruise speed.
