Following the recent launch of new repair as well as refit division under its new ownership, the Northern Marine yard is working not only on the building of three new yachts, but also on five new refit projects. Four of these are Northern Marine vessels that have returned for the same high-quality, meticulous craftsmanship used when they were constructed.

One of the more famous Northern Marine yachts onsite is the 75′ motor yacht Cheemaun, originally Starship, known for her 1,009 day, 75,000 mile educational circumnavigation from 1998-2001. This interactive expedition hosted photographers, filmmakers and scientists onboard to document Earth’s nature and people at the end of the millennium, often in remote locations accessible only by water.

Northern Marine’s third yacht has seen several owners since that world tour, including actor Gene Hackman. The current owner brought the luxury yacht Cheemaun from Florida to Anacortes, Washington, where in her home yard she’s undergoing interior and exterior upgrades. The three-phase project includes the addition of a Portuguese bridge, mechanical and electronics improvements, interior renovations including new built-in furniture, canvas replacement and bottom painting.

Other craft at Northern Marine’s facility include a 72′ Marlow Explorer in for yearly maintenance and paint work; a 57′ Northern Marine in for hull painting; a 58′ Northern Marine home for interior work; and a 64′ Northern Marine undergoing bottom work and propeller upgrades.

“There’s a benefit to refitting at our facility. The same skilled craftsmen who build our world-class, award-winning, multimillion dollar yachts are the same people doing the repair work on your boat,” said Northern Marine president Andy McDonald.

“From routine maintenance like bottom painting to extensive interior or exterior renovations, our experienced team is dedicated to quality work.  We also deal on a fixed bid basis, so our customers can be comfortable knowing up front the scope of the project we’re completing.”

Northern Marine builds fully-customized luxury yachts and long range expedition yachts from 57′-151′, known for their rugged construction and stylish interiors. Earlier this year, the company acquired the assets of Glas-Ply, enabling it to also offer customized fiberglass craft from 7′-28′.
