In what is undoubtedly the single biggest charity event in yachting, the Cogs4Cancer cycle ride came to an emotional close on Friday, October 10, 2014. The event saw all 16 of its riders safely navigate from Ancona to Antibes, after 6 challenging stages, totaling amazing 782 km.

So far, over €250,000 has been raised for Cancer Research UK and local French charities – Lenval Children’s Cancer Unit, Nice and ISIS Tzanck Mougins – an ASTOUNDING feat and a testament to all those who have been involved in the C4C fundraising effort, including Sunseeker Superyacht Management’s Ben Young – a key organiser of the event.

Friday’s 80km Tribute Ride from San Remo to Antibes marked the final stage of the C4C cycle, and gave some members of Sunseeker Monaco and Sunseeker France a chance to test their cycling prowess!

This final stage, by invite-only, saw an additional 70 people join the C4C peloton for the last push to the finish. Each rider raised €300 for the nominated French charities, and donned the now familiar white and green C4C jersey for the day.

After enjoying a light refreshment stop at the iconic Stars ‘N’ Bars in Monaco, the riders revelled in the homecoming arrival onto the IYCA quay in Antibes, complete with a fabulous champagne reception courtesy of Gourmet Deliveries.

The Cogs4Cancer cause, building on its wonderful success in 2013, has received a wealth of support from some of the most revered celebrities (including Rihanna and Michael Owen both of whom have been snapped sporting their Cogs4Cancer wristbands). As well as superstars; owners, industry leaders, businesses and 2 Royal families have also been backing this fantastic cause.

This includes Robert Braithwaite, the founder of Sunseeker, who has donated the largest amount – an incredible €25,500 on behalf of The Autumn Trust – whilst Sunseeker Monaco kindly sponsored this final tribute ride of the Cogs4Cancer ‘Superyacht Shipyard Tour’.

The event was headed up by Sunseeker Superyacht Management’s very own Ben Young, an avid cyclist who, following the amazing success of the 2013 inaugural C4C event, was asked by the 2013 team to organise this year’s efforts; a responsibility that he has not taken lightly!

A fantastic selection of events surrounding the ride were organised, allowing even those who don’t cycle to get involved and donate.

A calendar of events relating to the ride was as follows:

Friday 19th September – Gala dinner at Le Provencal Golf Club in Biot

Sunday 5th October – The team set off from Ancona

Friday 10th October – Tribute Ride sponsored by Sunseeker Monaco from San Remo to Antibes

Friday 10th October – Champagne welcome home at 16.30 on IYCA by Gourmet Deliveries – sponsored by Freedom Maritime
