The massive 182.9m/600ft mega expedition charter yacht REV OCEAN has had the first cabin completed on board. ‘Cabin 3245’ is designed for use by scientists and crew, and provides its occupant with a versatile space furnished with a desk, sofa, widescreen TV and king-single bed with storage in the base, effectively using the space.

There are 55 more cabins to complete, and as this work continues 18 crew positions have been advertised to have E/Y REV OCEAN ready for sea trials, and 40 more crew will be recruited at a later date to take her to full operation.

Featuring an exterior by world renowned superyacht designer Espen Oeino and interiors from H2 Yacht Design, the accommodation provides for up to 36 charter guests and a crew and staff of 54 in a spacious beam of 22m/72ft. Once completed she will be available for charter with an emphasis on worldwide research, and is expected to attract environmental institutions as well as luxury yacht charter guests looking for an incredible adventure. Luxury amenities on board include a Jacuzzi, gymnasium, cinema, and choice lounging and dining areas inside and out.

The state-of-the-art oceanography equipment will be used to survey marine habitats and the flora and fauna within, as well as scanning sea beds and recording currents. The laboratories and auditorium ensure that researchers have everything they need to make discoveries in the field and discuss findings with a large group in comfortable surroundings. Also of note is the abundance of storage on the cargo deck that could be used for a large collection of water toys in addition to research vessels such as the autonomous submersible.

The vessel has been designed with fuel efficiency in mind and comes with a direct drive diesel-electric propulsion system, an energy recovery rudder system and an exhaust cleaning system.

Explorer yacht REV began outfitting at the Norwegian shipyard Vard Brattvågearlier in February after leaving the Vard Tulcea facilities in Romania, and her next destination will be German shipyard Lloyd Werft in April 2020 to complete construction over the next year. Owner’s team will install the interiors during this time, while the exterior outer ceilings are erected and the superstructure painted.
