Acklins Island
Acklins Island is a truly well-preserved island in the Bahamas. It has a stunning landscape for holidaymakers who prefer secluded beaches or premier bone fishing rather than the glitz and glamour of more populated destinations.
Crooked Island
Crooked Island has a few settlements called Gun Point and French Wells. Their names sound just like plantation lifestyles from many years ago. With less than four hundred people inhabiting Crooked Island, it’s a fantastic place to explore at your own pace in peace and quiet.
Exclusive beaches with romantic names like Snug Corner, Lovely Bay and Delectable Bay are a joy to behold. They provide the perfect location for yacht charterers to spend lazy days swimming or sunbathing in the hot sun.
On Crooked Island, you can try fine cuisine at the Crooked Island Lodge in Pittstown Point. There’s a relaxing atmosphere in this Lodge which makes you feel comfortable and at home. Turtle Sound Bay
When on shore visit Turtle Sound. This is a bay right in the middle of Crooked Island, a wonderful place with sweet smelling flora and unique fauna. This waterway is a natural wonder of the Bahamas and with depths that range from shallow to deep, is known as an inland river. Running nine miles from the French Wells Channel to some of the northern settlements, interesting marine and bird life can be seen. There are also dense mangroves here too.
Try your hand at bone fishing
There’s always bone fishing to keep you entertained. The islands are some of the world’s top spots for this particular sport. Bone fish are very strong and really difficult to catch, so it will be a test of wills once you throw a line. The underwater caverns provide divers with adventure and surprise, you never know what you might find down there!
When to sail to the Bahamas
May and June are the best times to visit the Bahamas. The weather is pleasant without the high summer temperatures or uncomfortable humidity. Acklins Island and Crooked Island are known for their ambient weather conditions rather more so than some of the other Bahama islands.
What to take
You really won’t need to pack much luggage for a wonderful vacation in the Bahamas. Top of your list should be swimwear and a camera. You will need changes of clothes for different occasions but other than that, everything else is provided for you on board your superyacht charter.
Advice for first time charterers
Chartering is all about experiences you can share either with family or friends who are on board with you. It’s also about the journey you will take, what you do and the many places you’re able to include in a charter yacht itinerary. It’s a good idea to plan your route with the captain of your chosen vessel from the moment you pick up the yacht to the time you disembark. You know exactly what is going to happen from day one as do the crew and the captain. There won’t be any worries of what to do or where to sail to once you’re on board.
One of the general rules is to keep sailing journeys under two to three hours each day. Stay flexible with times, destinations and any changes that may occur. Your captain will guide you throughout your vacation, changing and adapting routes as you go to your preference. Flexibility is often the key to a successful yacht charter vacation.

LJ, Leigh was the most hands-on Captain we have ever had. To think that she brought this young crew together (ages 23-28) within weeks of the charter and led them to success is a very special thing. We never once heard the word "no". The late-night crew Kenny and Caroline were excellent. Leigh always empowered her crew to take responsibility for their division and would ask "what do you need? How can I help? Who do you need to go with you?", and was so happy, professional, and positive throughout, despite the early mornings and late nights. Chef Ross was outstanding! The boat was fine, loved the master stateroom layout and closet space, and the sun deck.
