Vripack-designed classic motor yacht B-52

May 24, 2013

The well known Vripack design studio is delighted to present its new 45,5m classic motor yacht B-52. Luxury yacht B52 boasts the gracious characteristics of those of the late 1920’s till end 1940’s.

As the B-52 superyacht is to become a real family yacht suitable for exploring coastal areas, Vripack produced a tailor-made layout following the wishes of the young client resulting in a functional and spacious design. Besides exploring the outskirts of the world, she will be used as a stand-by mother ship during classical sailing boat regattas, hence the B in her name.

On the very comfortable main deck a master suite, two twin cabins for the owner’s children, a small cabin in between for the children’s nanny, an office and a pantry are situated. “To create maximum privacy for the owner and guests, we paid special attention to the routing of this yacht, making it possible for the crew to be able to do their jobs properly whilst needing to encounter the guest’s deck or internal spaces as little as possible,” says Vripack designer Bart Bouwhuis. The complete lower deck, situated above the waterline, is specially designed for the crew, including a galley, laundry facilities, crew mess, crew quarters and their own relaxation area on the foredeck.

The aft part of the main deck has a large tender deck platform for two 7,5 meter tenders, both just tucked away under the sky lounge deck and behind the bulwark to prevent any loss of aesthetics. When the tenders are to be launched by overhead cranes, the bulwark is folded down to provide easy access. Also there is a large extendable swim platform integrated in the classic stern, including a dive store and all of today’s needs for a full entertainment beach area.

The sky lounge fore deck has a large inside explorers lounge and bar with very special view and fully sun covered by the canopy which is one of the style elements that really gives you the ‘travel back in time’ feeling. Aft, the main salon including a dining space is linked to the outside deck. The wheelhouse is located on the sundeck including a seating area in front and an additional seating with Jacuzzi aft.

Vripack has created a bridge with an open layout. You can walk fully around making it one of the most interesting eye catchers of this yacht. On top of the bridge and at the same time the highest point of the B-52 yacht, the exploration deck provides the best views when cruising.

Following their unique Holistic design approach Vripack gave special attention to the large technical space of superyacht B-52 to guarantee the possibility for good maintenance of the whole yacht and her tenders, while at the same time also focused on a super efficient and comfortable hull by using CFD analysis resulting in a maintenance-free green system functioning well and being reliable in all weather conditions.

Newly launched Moonen 100 Explorer Yacht Hull YN195

May 24, 2013

The prominent Dutch builder, Moonen Shipyards, has launched the brand-new Moonen 100 Explorer yacht Hull YN195. This long distance, expedition-type vessel was custom-developed with Vripack Naval Architects for a repeat client. Mixing up a robust performance with superb looks as well as smooth lines, the Moonen 100 Explorer motor yacht YN 195 has been created to permit her owners to travel the world in maximum comfort and style.

Fans of Moonen and Vripack will identify clear elements of both these renowned Dutch brands in the exterior profile of the Moonen 100 Explorer superyacht Hull YN195. The superyacht features the muscular appearance of the popular Vripack Doggersbank range, previously seen also on two earlier partnerships with Moonen: The 90’ Commercial Break yacht and the 92’ Poseidon superyacht, both launched in 2003. And then there are the graceful lines and curvaceous superyacht detailing with which Moonen is associated, previously combined to great effect on an explorer-type vessel with the award-winning 114’ motor yacht Beluga (ex My Issue) in 2006.

Although classed as an MCA ‘Short Range Yacht’, the Moonen 100 Explorer yacht Hull YN195 is also eminently suitable for long ocean passages. The yacht carries some 36,000 litres of fuel, and is equipped with a water maker and a Hamann marine sewage treatment plant. She has been designed with high levels of fuel efficiency that give her a range of 5,000 nautical miles at ten knots. The efficient hull shape, bulbous bow, sophisticated weight-saving measures, and highly efficient propellers and engines also reduce costs and minimise the yacht’s environmental impact.

These major fuel efficiencies are combined with some of the finest life aboard facilities you are likely to see on a 30-metre yacht. Comfort is clearly centre stage, with some remarkably low noise and vibration levels being achieved by flexible mounting of the interiors, the fitting of flexibly mounted vibration dampers and a careful campaign of insulation. An excellent sea-keeping performance and impressive stability at anchor means the owners will enjoy their time onboard wherever they may choose to explore.

There is also plenty of space for the owners and their guests to relax during long voyages in an interior with a suitably maritime style, featuring blonde teak and walnut. A deliberate choice for the layout of the Moonen 100 Explorer luxury yacht Hull YN195 was to feature three large suites in order to maximise comfort for the passengers. The owners’ stateroom covers the full beam on the lower deck and has a particularly spacious bathroom plus a walk-in wardrobe.

The suite is especially roomy as there are only two other guest cabins, one of which has a double bed, the other two singles and a Pullman berth. As well as sleeping facilities for seven guests, the Moonen 100 Explorer yacht Hull YN 195 offers accommodations for four crew members in the bow. There is a great deal of storage both in the cabins and in a range of dedicated storage areas, such as under the crew compartment in the foreship, which also doubles as a laundry.

The yacht features a very comfortable flybridge forward of the mast which includes a sofa and sunbeds. Aft of the mast is a separate sundeck area, another roomy zone with a wet bar and a Jacuzzi as well as further sun-worshipping options. There is also a dedicated area on this level for tenders and toys, which do not therefore need to be moved in order for the owners and guests to enjoy the facilities on this deck. This arrangement also frees up space in the lazarette area, where a large window bathes the voluminous space in natural light. On the starboard side is a lovely sauna plus a day head and shower.

“The Moonen 100 Explorer benefits from the very latest insights in design and yachtbuilding efficiencies and quality control,” says project manager Sietse van der Zee. “In partnership with the naval architects and engineers at Vripack, we built the interior in a faster timeframe thanks to a greater degree of prefabrication and more efficient outfitting process. The systems were developed in section, allowing for intermediate controls on progress. In addition, the yacht is lighter than expected without sacrificing sturdiness and keeping fuel efficiency in mind. The project has enabled us to develop an even leaner and cleaner construction process that will undoubtedly enhance future builds.”

SuperyachtDesign Week

The calendar is already saturated with superyacht conferences, boat shows, awards ceremonies and symposiums, so this will be none of the above. Nor will it be an egotistical display of wealth and excess. SuperyachtDESIGN Week will instead be a celebration of yacht design. Spread over three days, the event will feature discussions, scheduled meetings, workshops and demonstrations on all aspects of superyacht design, with some of the industry’s top names.

Bloemsma Van Breemen to launch its 44m motor yacht Project BVB44M in June 2013

May 16, 2013

The all-new 44m motor yacht Project BVB44M is at the final stage of construction at the Dutch shipyard, Bloemsma Van Breemen. In addition to the yard’s well-documented expertise in building and engineering field, the Project BVB44M yacht also benefits from a superb exterior from the boards of Pieter Beeldsnijder as well as first-class naval architecture by Vripack. Adding in the contribution of some of Holland’s top marine equipment suppliers, the result is Project BVB44M as a testimony to Dutch standards of excellence. Furthermore, she is being constructed for Dutch owners.

As one might expect from a project of this pedigree, the Project BVB44M superyacht also features the very latest technologies and systems, plus a comprehensive audio-video installation. Many of the safety and backup systems are located in a separate engine space under the guest suites, resulting in a spacious and clean engine room.

Spaciousness is in fact at the heart of Pieter Beeldsnijder’s layout. From the large engine room on the lower deck to the voluminous sun deck with its broad relaxation and sunbathing areas, the volume is deployed to the max. A dedicated owners’ area on the upper deck is another fine example of the carefully thought-through approach to space:  In addition to a luxurious stateroom, the owners’ quarters include a lounge and terrace forward that will enable them to enjoy the pleasures of the al fresco life in private.

With the owners’ area placed in the traditional location of the wheelhouse, the latter has been located on a semi-raised forward section of the main deck. On the main deck also a good-sized captain’s cabin. The rest of this deck features a lounge, dining room and wheelhouse. The lower deck contains four guest suites, four crew accommodations and a large lazarette which houses the jet skis and other watersport toys. All this and more is contained within a quite splendid pear wood interior fitted by the experts from De Ruiter Quality Interiors.

Like every Pieter Beeldsnijder project, the Project BVB44M yacht has a wealth of fine detailing inside and out plus the use of spatial design that is his hallmark. This has required considerable skill on behalf of the Bloemsma Van Breemen craftsmen.

First Vripack boat building day, June 22, 2013

April 08, 2013

Set to take place on Saturday, June 22, the first Vripack boat building day is being organized by the Technasium students of the Bogerman Sneek. The grand première will be held on the Potten fields of Sneek / Offingawier.

Vripack Botenbouwdag 2013

Bart Bouwhuis of Vripack says: “Vripack is a strong supporter of social activities and the idea of a Vripack boat building day had already been on our minds for a long time. The cooperation with the Technasium students resulted in a perfect win-win situation, giving this event the body it deserves.”

The purpose of the boat building day is to organize a family oriented event with an inspiring and instructive background where the connection between the nautical industry and youth are at the center. Various activities will be organized during the boat building day but the main goal is to build one’s own boat in one day.

“Organizing the boat building day is a great and educational challenge for the Technasium students. The organization of this event creates a beautiful bridge between education and the labor market. Through the cooperation with Vripack we created an ideal platform on which not only Technasium but also many other facets of Bogerman that can be brought to attention, ” says Jan Gerben de Vries, teacher of Technasium and coordinator of this project.

Vripack’s team worked together with the Technasium students in order to develop a building kit. The complete building kit costs €100,- and can be ordered through the specially designed website until the 1st of June 2013.

All building kits are provided with a number, which is linked to the family that ordered the boat. There will be a limited number of building kits, so one has to be quick!

The proceeds of the boat building day together with a fixed amount for every sold kit will be donated to the Sailing Kids foundation - an appropriate organization within the initiative of this event.

Open Day at K&M Yachtbuilders, April 20, 2013

March 26, 2013

K&M Yachtbuilders, builder of aluminium customer-built sailing yachts, will once again open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 20. From 10 to 16 hours, visitors are welcome to view the shipyard and its work in Makkum: around 7 yachts are in build indoors, while around 15 finished yachts can be found out in the water.

K&M Yachtbuilders - Shipyard

K&M Yachtbuilders - Shipyard

There will be two presentations (at 12 and 14 hours) and hopefully good weather! Four of the K&M “lines” will be displayed: Bestevaer, Bestewind, Stadtship and Axonite.

From 48 to 73 foot
Eeuwe Kooi, The director and owner of K&M: “When is our Open Day interesting for you? If you are planning to have a sailing yacht custom built. If you are interested in aluminium custom and polyester semi-custom yachts. But also if you’re ‘simply’ a boat lover.”

“Of course you can visit us at any other time, but the Open Day is the ideal opportunity to view many yachts at the same time. Each year, owners of K&M yachts moor in Makkum. These are yachts which normally sail the most beautiful routes. With so many ships lined up, it is fascinating to see how each owner has made their own choices. In order to get a proper idea of your ideal ship, it is sensible to view as many different ships as possible and to write down whatever you really want (or do not want),” explains Eeuwe.

“The ships here give a good idea of what our shipyard does. We not only construct the aluminium Bestevaer and Stadtship yachts but also the Bestewind 50, which is the smaller polyester version of the Bestevaer. We know for sure there will be six of the Bestewind 50 yachts on-site.”

“We also have two completely custom-built aluminium yachts, the Icon 48 ‘Leeloo’ and the Axonite 69”. The ‘Leeloo’ will be the smallest of the ships, but still very much worth the effort of having a look!”

“Are you looking for a shipyard for a refit or maintenance job? Once again, K&M is the place to be. We have a stand with information on this, and a number of ships can be viewed as showcases.”

Four of these ships are also for sale. These are the Bestewind 50 ‘Kooi Aap’, Bestevaer 53ST ‘Zeerover’, Bestevaer 50S ‘Everdina Maria’ and the Bestevaer 73S ‘Christopher’.

Presentations (in English)
K&M Yacht builders are offering two very different but certainly very interesting presentations this year.

12:00 hours Marnix Hoekstra, Director of the renowned Vripack firm of architects in Sneek will hold a presentation on ‘high latitude sailing’, all about sailing in cold regions. Many of K&M owners already do that!

Marnix Hoekstra from Vripack

Marnix Hoekstra from Vripack

14:00 hours Leonie Kok has sailed around the world on board an aluminium yacht, together with her husband Adam and their two young children. Fantastic photos, videos and wonderful stories are guaranteed!

The presentations will be given in English, with a view to the large number of foreign guests expected to visit.

Other activities
Besides the ships under construction and the ships moored outside, K&M has organised much more to entertain visitors.

A number of suppliers, such as Yanmar, Cuno, OnDeck, RayMarine, Asa Boot Electro and Holland Nautic, will present and exhibit their projects.

If one is feeling peckish or thirsty, Jurjen Catering is on hand. And Makkum beach is nearby, for family fun once one has seen enough at the shipyard.

There is no need to register for the Open Day, and children are more than welcome!
