South American Properties planning to build new superyacht marina in Peru

May 10, 2013

South American Properties, Inc. plans to build a full service superyacht marina, called Colan Marina, close to the port of Paita in northern Peru. Colan Marina will represent a planned full service marina and lake, providing 150 slips, dry dock facilities, maintenance and fuel service as well as full 24-hour security.

Colan Marina is the first real estate project of South American Properties, Inc. under its new name and since controlling interest was sold to LIG Assets, Inc. A filing with FINRA was recently approved to change the name of Texas Hill Country Barbecue, Inc. to South American Properties, Inc. The newly formed entity plans to acquire and develop real estate properties, and other income generating assets located in South America with a more specific focus on the country of Peru.

Colan Marina will be a man-made construction to be created by excavation of a salt flat bordering the emerald bay beach on the west and 100-foot cliffs on the east. A canal 24-meters wide and 200-meters long will connect the marina from the Pacific Ocean.

Land has been purchased surrounding the lake portion as well as on top of the cliffs overlooking the marina location. Plans call for a small draw bridge that will allow traffic along the beach when boats are not entering. A rock jetty will be constructed to calm any waves allowing a smooth entry into the canal and marina.

The marina will be land locked and secure from weather and with 24-hour security. It will be connected to electric and water services. Future plans also include a marina club, bar and small hotel, as well as apartments and condos for sale and rent.

Peru has limited docking, slips and marinas along its 1500-mile coast and beaches. The Colan Marina will be located 10 kilometers from Paita, Peru, a port city. Last year, Terminales Potruarios Euroandinos Paita (Port of Paita) issued US$110 million of senior secured notes and plans to use the note proceeds to dredge the port, build a mooring point, buy cranes, purchase other handling equipment, and partially fund reserves.

In a report from Fitch Ratings in May last year and article titled “Peru’s Paita port has regional advantages,” it stated that “activities at the port are likely to benefit from ongoing infrastructure developments in the region.”

Colan is the gateway to the beaches of the north of Mancora, Punta Sal and Tumbes where there are excellent surfing, swimming and fishing, and is a day-and-one-half sail to Ecuador. It is also the gateway to the famous Galapagos Islands a two-to-three-day sail from Colan. Piura is the closest main city of northern Peru and is 30 miles away with commercial airport facilities and immigration officials to receive international flights. It is a one-hour-and-twenty-minute flight from Lima, Peru.

LIG Assets expects to discuss how this acquisition will benefit LIGA shareholders in the near future and its overall strategy in more detail.

May 03, 2013

Providing an extensive transportation network with a large number of route possibilities, Sevenstar Yacht Transport is an important player in opening up Asia to the yachting world. Sevenstar’s network expands across the Caribbean, South America, the Mediterranean and through to Singapore, Phuket and Hong Kong.

Benetti-Classic motor yacht

Sevenstar is not a newcomer to Asia but the company’s presence is certainly growing, with two new agencies in Singapore and Phuket and an increasing number of Mediterranean and USA-based yachts travelling to the exotic waters of the east,” said Jan Maarten Boissevain, Middle East and Far East line manager for Sevenstar.

In Singapore and Indonesia Sevenstar Yacht Transport is being represented by Jean Jacques Lavigne, who says, “Sevenstar Yacht Transport has been working very hard in developing the region since the moment we started talking about developing a Superyacht Conference five years ago. Between 2005 and 2008 most of the yachts were going to Singapore because of the new marinas and in the last couple of years we have also seen growth coming from Indonesia, Philippines Malaysia.

Speaking about the show Jean Jacques comments, “It has been a very good show. The first show a few years ago was very promising and last year’s show was a bit of a letdown, but this year’s show has been fantastic! Now we are on the right path and the partnership with Arthur Tay of the One 15 Marina Club is also working out very good.”

Oyster World Rally 2013: The yachts currently 900 miles into the Pacific Ocean

March 20, 2013

Following the safe passage through the Panama Canal, the yachts participating in the inaugural Oyster World Rally have now sailed more than 3000 miles and are presently 900 miles into the Pacific Ocean. The Oyster fleet has regrouped in the fabulous yacht charter destination – the Galapagos Islands.

The magical South American yacht charter destination - the Galapagos Islands

The magical South American yacht charter destination - the Galapagos Islands

Situated in the Pacific Ocean 500 nautical miles from the South American continent, the archipelago of 19 islands and the surrounding marine reserve is a showcase of evolution. The Galapagos are a melting pot of marine species. On going seismic and volcanic activity coupled with the extreme isolation of the islands, has led to the development of unusual animal life such as the land iguana and the giant tortoise, which inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.

From Switzerland, Lukas Schiesser is taking part in the Oyster World Rally with his family onboard the Oyster 54 sailing yacht In Flagranti. “It has been my dream for years to dive with Hammerhead sharks.” Admitted Lukas. “The Galapagos is one of the few places in the world that these amazing creatures can be seen in abundance, often swimming in huge groups. In my opinion, this phenomenon makes the islands the most amazing place on earth. They are sharks, so they have the potential of being dangerous but they are not known to be aggressive. It is unlikely you will see them unless you scuba dive as they tend to swim below 30 metres or more, so it is fantastic that Oyster have arranged our diving permits.”

Oyster Project Manager, Debbie Johnson and Customer Care Manager Eddie Scougall are providing constant support for the Oyster World Rally during the 14-month odyssey around the world.

“It is just so amazing here! It is like being in another world, a real adventure.” Commented Debbie Johnson. “Some of the islands have only recently been formed. You can literally see the evolution of the landscape from the lava flow. Peaks appear, followed by plant life such as mangroves and then the wildlife. Some of the islands are totally baron, whilst others that have been here for millions of years are lush green. The Galapagos is like a mini-world, a unique eco-system.

A seal visiting one of the Oyster yachts

“Everyone is so excited to be here and the thing that just astonishes you straight away is the incredible abundance and diversity of wildlife, rays jumping out of the water, sea lions coming to greet you. At night many of the Oyster yachts put on their underwater lights and there are sharks, sea lions and all sorts of marine animals playing about right under the boats, it is just incredible.

“Even ashore the close contact with wildlife is just astonishing, we have set up a basic office in one of the local hotels and iguanas often come up to share our space, the sea lions are often in and out of the hotel pool and petrels perform acrobatics above, I have never experienced anything like it. None of the animals seem to be worried by us, the Morgan family from Crazy Daisy went snorkelling a few days ago, one penguin came over to Bob Morgan and literally pecked on his dive mask, the solitary penguin was then joined by a whole colony, they just wanted to play with them, utterly remarkable.

“One of the more unusual species of shark in The Galapagos is the Hammerhead and just about everyone who has been snorkelling and diving has seen them, most of the Oyster crews have enjoyed secluded dives but we put a call around on the VHF to see who would like to come on a group dive and 27 people from nine different boats came along including; Amelie, Babe, Chinook, Pandemonium, Pearl of Persia, Quester, Satika and Yantina.

“The spirit between the yachts in the Oyster World Rally is just fantastic. Although the Oyster fleet are spread out through many of the islands, Ian Davis owner of Oyster 56 yacht Yantina operates our radio-net. It takes a lot of time and effort but it has been so useful.”

The value of the radio net and the assistance within the fleet was highlighted by Oyster 53 yacht Amelie, when reporting problems with their water maker to Customer Care Manager Eddie Scougall. “After going on board and assessing the problem, I could see that a spare part for the water maker was required.”

Confirmed Eddie Scougall. ”So we put out a message via VHF and within half an hour Oyster 655 luxury yacht Sotto Vento replied to say that they had the spare and the problem was solved with a 3,000 mile trip coming up, not having a water maker would have changed Amelie’s plans significantly. Ironically, Sotto Vento developed a problem with one of their heads and once again we were on the radio and within minutes the Oyster 56 yacht Sulana responded with a solution. The fleet is really helping each other out, which is so vital in these remote locations.”

The Oyster fleet are expected to leave The Galapagos Islands over the next few days and head for the next port of call. The Marquesas Islands group is one of the most remote in the world, lying about 850 miles northeast of Tahiti and 3000 miles away from the West coast of Mexico, the nearest continental land mass.

Oyster World Rally 2013: Stopover in the Galapagos

March 14, 2013

The stopover in the charming South American yacht charter destination – the Galapagos Islands is demonstrating to be an exciting one for the Oyster World Rally. The team have set up an ‘office’ on the terrace of the Solymar hotel on the waterfront, where they are often visited by sea lions, iguanas as well as pelicans who, together with Oyster World Rally participants, all drop in for a swim and a drink at the hotel pool.

Oyster World Rally - Stopover in the Galapagos

Oyster World Rally - Stopover in the Galapagos

Those who have already taken tours of the islands have found that the geology of the Galapagos is amazing, but it is the wildlife that steals the show, and at Happy Hour everyday there are new adventures to report – snorkelling and diving with sea lions and penguins, sightings of hammerhead sharks, watching turtles nesting, the strange mating dance of the blue-footed booby, as well as giant tortoise ‘safaris’, and the fun of watching the pelicans and sea lions competing for scraps at the fish market whenever a catch is landed.

Complete lack of fear of humans is what makes the wildlife encounters so special, Bob Morgan, owner of Crazy Daisy reports that the sight of a galapagos penguin whilst he was snorkelling was an unforgettable experience, when the cheeky penguin returned a second later and pecked his mask it was a different encounter altogether. Sea lions are also proving a popular dive companion – they love to play in the bubbles blown out by a diver, and if they don’t think one is providing enough entertainment will give a tug on his fins to encourage him to join their games.

Several of the rally yachts have taken guides with them to venture into the protected areas of the Galapagos National Park where a lot of planning and paperwork is involved in getting permission but everyone agrees that it is well worth the effort. Paul Adamson, skipper of Oyster 885 sailing yacht Lush reported, “I feel completely privileged to have been able to visit such and awesome place and have every anchorage to ourselves”.

The exploring goes on. Three dive boats have been chartered over the weekend for groups of rally participants to venture further into the underwater world, all hoping to share adventures with turtles, sea lions, galapagos and hammerhead sharks, penguins, and of course their fellow participants.
