Designed by the French naval architects Finot-Conq, superyacht Nomade IV has sleek waterlines with her hull and superstructure built entirely of carbon fibre and Nomex, which, with 51 tons of displacement, will guarantee outstanding sailing performance.

The “racing” style of the Nomade IV yacht is given by the shape of the hull with its prominent hard chine running from bow to stern, 9 tons of ballast on each side, lifting keel and two rudders.

The “cruiser” element of the Nomade IV yacht is expressed by her stylishly minimalist interior layout, designed by Pierre Frutschi and developed and implemented by Maxi Dolphin’s design office in close collaboration with the owner.

Classic charter yacht Elena enters Throphée Bailli de Suffren

April 25, 2013

The 2013 Camper & Nicholsons Throphée Bailli de Suffren‘s entry list continues to grow, as the 55m (180ft) charter yacht Elena picked up the gauntlet thrown down by the 185-foot sailing yacht Atlantic. These two classic schooner yachts are expected to sail head-to-head in the three-leg offshore race from Saint-Tropez to Malta.

The 56m charter yacht - schooner Elena

The 56m charter yacht - schooner Elena

Built In 2009, Elena yacht is a reincarnation of the 1910 Nathanial Herreschoff schooner. Carrying 1,800 metres of sail downwind, she is regularly seen competing in the Voiles de Saint-Tropez and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful sailing yachts afloat today.

Also announcing their entries were the two William Fife gaff cutters Mariska (27m/90ft) and charter yacht Moonbeam IV (32m/105ft). Dating from 1908 and 1914 respectively, these two historic yachts should be evenly matched on the water and are expected to provide their own match racing excitement as well as vying for overall honours.

According to Sean Purdy, C&N Marinas’ Marketing Director, 2013 looks set to be a vintage year for the Bailli de Suffren. “The names of Herreschoff and Fife are legendary,” he said. “And these yachts possess a grandeur and elegance that is truly unique. It will be fantastic to see them competing on the kind of offshore course that they were originally built for.”

The event is open to classic yachts of 11m or longer, and was won last year by the 20m (66ft) White Dolphin. The race starts from Saint-Tropez on Saturday 22 June, and entries close on 15 June.

Luxury charter yacht ATLANTIC enters 2013 Camper & Nicholsons Trophee Bailli de Suffren

April 12, 2013

Organisers of “The Mediterranean’s most beautiful yacht race” announced that the majestic 56-metre (184-foot) charter yacht Atlantic has officially entered the 2013 Camper & Nicholsons Trophée Bailli de Suffren. The event represents a three-leg offshore race for classic yachts from Saint-Tropez to Malta, via Sardinia’s Porto Rotondo and Trapani in Sicily.

Sailing yacht Atlantic is a faithful replica of William Gardner’s classic, winner of the transatlantic ‘Kaiser’s Cup’ in 1905 with the famous Captain Charlie Barr at the helm. Covering 3,000 miles from Sandy Hook, USA to the Lizard in Cornwall in 12 days, 4 hours and 1 minute, she set a record that was not bettered by a monohull until 1997.

“The name Atlantic is legendary among classic racing yachts, on the same level as the famous J Class yachts,” said Sean Purdy, C&N Marinas’ Marketing Director. “With 18,500 square feet of sail she will make a magnificent sight on the Bailli de Suffren race course this June.”

Sailing Schooner ATLANTIC - Salon Seating

Atlantic yacht’s captain, Ed Kastelein added, “Atlantic sailed this race in 2010 and our charterers loved it then. I expect this time will be even better.” Throwing down the gauntlet to other big boats in the classic fleet, he continued, “I look forward to taking on a few other big racing yachts. If they’re up to it!

The original luxury charter yacht Atlantic’s sailing career ended with World War II, and she was eventually broken up in 1982, but in 2009 the modern replica was launched. At 62m (203 feet) overall, including bowsprit and mizzen boom, and with a permanent crew of 11 and accommodation for 12 guests she is without doubt one of the most impressive sailing yachts afloat.
