65 metre Benetti superyacht Nataly at her Launch (ex FB252)

May 30, 2011

Redman Whiteley Dixon were delighted to be present at the launch of Benetti’s FB252 motor yacht ‘Nataly’ in April at the shipbuilders Livorno facility, Italy. From what started as a sketch on an aircraft on May25th 2006, the magnificent vision which greeted the team on Monday morning was an emotional moment.

The 65 m Benetti Superyacht Nataly just after her Launch in Italy

Despite numerous visits over the past 5 years this was the first time we were able to stand back and fully appreciate the reality of the extensive modelling which had gone before to create superyacht Nataly. Finally we had the chance to see the majesty of superyacht Nataly; immaculately painted  and glazed, with her bright work gleaming and mast installed.

The enthusiasm of the yard and onlookers alike was coupled with an underlying feeling that this was the launch of a very special yacht – Nataly. For Redman Whiteley Dixon,  motor yacht Nataly is a significant boat, she demonstrates the strength of our ability for both interior and exterior styling whilst for Benetti she shows a new dynamic in producing beautiful custom yachts.

April 20, 2011

Sailing yacht AGLAIA at 66 metres (216.5 ft) was launched earlier in March by Dutch Shipyard Vitters a well known high quality super sailing yacht Shipyard. The Superyacht AGLAIA sloop (hull number 3063) is a huge modern luxury yacht as designed by Dubois Naval Architects with interior design by Redman Whitely Dixon.   S/Y AGLAIA was actually launched to water on Thursday 3rd March at the Vitters shipyard in Zwartsluis, The Netherlands after being barged to Harlingen where the yacht’s sloop mast was also stepped.

One interesting point about this sailing yacht is her massive mast. As she is a sloop she needs one very tall and technologically advanced mast which stands over 80 meters above her deck and even further above the water line. Superyacht AGLAIA also features one of the largest composite rudders created to date.

The AGLAIA yacht is the largest Vitters boat that has launched so far. She has racing yacht performance due to her powerful rig, long waterline length, light weight and lifting keel, which when full extended provides enviable upwind pointing and speed. a futuristic Vitters superyacht she makes a very impressive sight.

Two C-18 Catipillar diesel engines drive yacht Aglaia to over 13 knots with their 532 kW at 2100 rpm. The yacht began as Dubois Yacht’s P 1409 sailing yacht design which had a model shown at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Vitters Shipyard is a well established and respected custom yacht builder situated in Zwartsluis, The Netherlands. The facility opened in 1990 and has delivered an impressive list of yachts,  working with top designers, up to 75 meter in length.

Dubois Yachts
Yacht design P 1409: “This exciting new concept is currently under development. At 65m, this yacht combines our racing-design experience with our expert knowledge of world-cruising requirements; reliability, seaworthiness and strength. With racing yacht performance by virtue of the lifting keel and a sleek, novel appearance, this yacht will be a ground breaker. Tank and wind tunnel testing is being conducted throughout November and December. A model of the yacht was on our stand at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show.”

THE DESIGNERS – TIM HEYWOOD and REDMAN WHITELEY DIXON
The theme of space continues through to the deck areas of the Icon yacht Baton Rouge which are just as expansive with great outdoor spaces for lounging and dining, a pool with jet stream, a dedicated sundeck (which converts to a party deck) with an enormous circular sun pad, and an inviting beach club lounge at sea level.

A gym and a very comprehensive inventory of water toys and tenders along with state-of-the-art entertainment and communications systems complete the picture of a yacht which has been conceived by a highly experienced team to deliver the very ultimate charter experience.

ICON Yachts Superyacht Baton Rouge Profile Underway

“The construction of such a yacht is an incredible team effort, under the guiding baton of the Client. The enthusiasm shown by all at ICON, from the shop floor to the boardroom, has been rewarded by a truly remarkable achievement, a yacht of the very best quality ready to sail anywhere in the world.

It has been a great pleasure for me to show how a sister ship, under the skin, can look very different from her Icon siblings, especially when finished in metallic silver lacquer!” Tim Heywood

“Her owners have inspired a wonderfully varied and complex interior, where color and texture come together to create a fabulous feeling of spirit and originality, Bravo Icon Yachts!

Being able to tie together complimenting styles with lavish attention to detail is a skill which requires a great design confidence and an empathy for the client. Baton Rouge is a true reflection of the owner‟s style, passion for colour and great sense of fun all brought together within a fabulous Tim Heywood exterior.” Justin from Redman Whiteley Dixon.

OWNERS’ SUITE

ICON Yacht Baton Rouge - Owners' Suite

From the initial meeting, the owners wanted their suite to contain his and hers offices, „says Justin Redman of RWD. „They also asked for a bath with a view, lots of hanging garment space and an area where their belongings can be locked away when the yacht charters. Their many years chartering has given them a clear and reasonable picture of what they wanted for their own accommodations.‟
