Feadship at the 2012 Dubai International Boat Show

February 13, 2012

Feadship will be attending the Dubai International Boat Show 2012. The event, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, is expected to be bigger and better than ever, with thousands of visitors expected to come to the boat show between 13 and 17 March. Feadship will arrive at the Dubai show in good heart having signed eight orders for its superyachts during the recession.

2012 Dubai International Boat Show

2012 Dubai International Boat Show

Feadship has a long and distinguished history of serving clients in the Middle East that dates back to Persian royalty in the 1930s. Since then, the superyacht builder Feadship has built 25 yachts for Middle East owners, the majority being for presidential or royal families. Launched in 1978 for Saudi clients, the 64.64m motor yacht Al Riyadh was the largest Feadship in the fleet for almost a quarter of a century until the launch of the 65m superyacht Wedge Too – also for owners from the Middle East.

The fast pace of development in the world of superyachts is illustrated by the fact that Feadship’s current order book includes the first Feadship megayacht to break the 100-metre barrier, as well as various other projects ranging from 45 to 99 metres . This impressive 100m + superyacht project by Feadship will be the largest yacht built to date in the Netherlands and the first to comply with the recently published Passenger Yacht Code regulations (PYC13-36) for yachts of this size carrying up to 36 passengers.

At the Dubai show Feadship will showcase the latest Feadship Future Concept called Qi and display models of the 81m motor yacht Air and 77.70m yacht Tango . It will also be sharing news with visitors on the other Feadships launched over the past year including M/Y Fountainhead (87.78m), motor yacht Musashi (87.78m), yacht Air (81m), Lady Britt motor yacht (63m) and the Helix yacht (45m). Each sets a new standard of excellence in its own right.

“At Feadship, custom still carries its original, pure meaning,” says Francis Vermeer, head of marketing. “We are your first port of call for a personal superyacht that is truly tailored to your individual requirements. Our custom designs are created from scratch, and many Feadships have been inspired by clients from the Middle East region and there are no holds barred on their imagination.”

The team at Feadship would be pleased to make private appointments in advance, either at the show or elsewhere during the show dates.

Naval Architect Rob Humphreys amoung speakers at Shipwrights Lecture in Southampton

October 11, 2011

The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, in conjunction with the University of Southampton, is hosting a series of annual lectures designed to give apprentices and young shipwrights an exciting insight into the opportunities, technologies, and future developments in the UK superyacht design and boat building industry.

The first lecture will take place on October 19th, at the Turner Sims Hall, University of Southampton. Starting at 1500 the first lecture will be given by Naval Architect Rob Humphreys, and his son Tom, who has already established his reputation in designing outstanding sail and power vessels. A short coffee and networking break precedes the second lecture which will be delivered by Ian Benning, Volvo Penta Sales Director, Marine Leisure Engines.

The introduction and welcome will be made by Sir Jock Slater, Deputy Prime Warden of the Shipwrights and the lectures concluded by Sir John Parker, former Chancellor of the University, himself a past shipbuilder.

The concept of high level lectures for young people under the age of 25 who are either already employed as apprentices in the marine leisure sector, or who are studying in this arena, came from the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, which was formed in 1387 as a Trade Guild for shipwrights working on the London River . A number of its current members work and employ young people in the marine leisure sector.

The Shipwrights Lectures are being supported by apprentices from companies as far afield as Pendennis, the Cornwall-based superyacht builder, Discovery Yachts and SYS from Southampton and Berthon Boat Company, in Lymington all of whom have extensive apprenticeship schemes. Training providers, universities, colleges, and industry bodies such as the British Marine Federation, have all pledged their support for these events.

The theme of the lectures is ‘Past, Present and Future’ and it is planned that there will be two dates set per annum, each comprising two presentations covering both sail & power. The second event will take place in February 2012. Attendance is free for apprentices nominated by their employers, and young people under the age of 25. Each Apprentice will receive a certificate of attendance for each lecture subject, allowing him or her to build a collection of certificates demonstrating wide knowledge of different marine industry sectors and an appreciation of subjects alongside their particular apprentice training.

The lecture programme builds on the Shipwrights’ long-standing commitment to supporting education and charity in the maritime sector, notably with the annual apprentice award of the Queen’s Silver Medal. This close fought competition takes 20 finalists on a five day outward bound course at Kielder each year, choosing winners from those who have demonstrated excellence in their written submissions, and allows many more to benefit from the charitable work of the Shipwrights.

Innovation and Investment
The strong financial performance has been driven by Sunseeker’s commitment to innovation and investment throughout the global economic downturn; it has invested more than £50m in its business in the last five years. Sunseeker will be launching the latest addition to its range – the class-leading 53 Manhattan – at the 2011 Cannes and Southampton Boat Shows, while its ground-breaking 28 Metre Yacht will be launched at the London International Boat Show in early January 2012.

Sunseeker continues to increase its pace of development – in the last 12 months it has launched the new Manhattan 63 motor yacht, the Manhattan 73, the Predator 115 and the 40 Metre / 132ft yacht, Sunseeker’s largest superyacht to date. Sunseeker first entered the superyacht market with the 105ft yacht a decade ago, giving it enormous expertise in this segment of the luxury yacht market; the company is currently in the advanced development of a new 155ft yacht to extend its range further.

Global Business
As the company produces larger yachts that boast ever greater luxury and performance, it can claim a title many of its competitors cannot – “Truly Global”. Sunseeker exports its craft across the world; all of the yachts manufactured in its Poole and Portland factories in Dorset, UK are exported, with dedicated dealerships in over 60 countries across five continents.

Sunseeker importantly recognises the interests of customers in different markets, as evidenced by the recent award for “Best Brand” at the Hainan Show in China.

Stewart McIntyre, Managing Director, commented:

“This has been a fantastic year for Sunseeker. The yachts are more valued than ever and our product range, our balance sheet and our distribution network have all combined to produce very strong financial results, which we are highly confident we will continue to improve upon in the next twelve months.

Our order book is in great shape and our new product development remain best in class, while the Sunseeker name remains the aspirational luxury motor yachting brand globally. We have built a great team of people both in Poole and worldwide, and have the infrastructure and the capital to achieve our ambitious goals for the business.”
