Strong strategies to Brazilian market
David Breviglieri, CEO of Azimut Brasil – production site installed in 2010 in the city of Itajai, SC – tells about the expansion plans of the shipyard. “Currently the factory in Brazil has 25,000 square meters, a warehouse being unique to the lamination and production areas and another that focuses headquarters. When the project is completed, the new plant will occupy a total area of over 45,000 square meters, of which 50% will be covered. Currently there are 300 employees who work in the construction of yachts with the same standard of excellence of those produced in Italy, beyond the services, the dealer’s network, and after sales” he explains.

At the Rio Boat Show Azimut-Benetti Group will present its differentials also in services. “We structured our Dealer’s Network that today is able to support its customers throughout the brazilian coast, from purchasing, technical support and after-sales. In terms of relationship, we have developed a series of strategies to approach with our clientele, to exchange ideas and to absorb their main expectation”, adds Breviglieri citing the “Confrarias Náuticas”, events already held in Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Bahia and that have become big success in the nautical market.

The Rio Boat Show 2013 will be held between April 25th and May 1st at the Mauá Pier, Rio de Janeiro, and is considered one of the biggest nautical events of the Americas.

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 Yacht PETRUS II and Azimut Magellano 43 Winners at Asia Boating Awards

April 12, 2013

On the occasion of the ninth edition of the Asia Boating Awards, an event organized by Blu Inc. (publishing group of “Asia Pacific Boating” and “China Boating” magazines), important awards were in fact assigned to boats that best represent the style and quality of two of the most prestigious brands of the Group: Azimut Yachts and Benetti.

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 yacht Petrus II was awarded the prize for the “Best Semi Custom Built Yacht” (over 30 meters), while Azimut Magellano 43 yacht was judged the best boat in the “Best Production Motor Yacht” category (up to 15 meters).

The awarding ceremony was held last March 29th, at the opening of the Hainan Rendez-Vous, a reference event in the Asian region for the luxury yachting sector, which has been capable of establishing itself successfully in a period of just four years.

“These awards represent an important sign of appreciation from the Asian market for our products and, in particular, the Chinese one”, says Giovanna Vitelli, Member of the Board of Directors for Azimut|Benetti. “The continued strengthening of the Group’s presence in the territory, together with new projects and boats that were specially created to better respond to local needs in terms of on-board lifestyle, represent commitments that were clearly recognized and that meet full consent.”

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 superyacht Petrus II is the Benetti’s new gem, the first Classic model boat, which will be premiering in the USA at the 2013 Miami Boat Show. This boat is a new development in the exterior profile of Benetti yachts that has been masterfully interpreted by the boat’s designer, Righini, in full keeping with the rest of the Benetti 93 to 145 foot yacht range.

The new Benetti Classic Supreme 132 luxury yacht Petrus II is 40.24 metres in length with a maximum width of 8.28 metres. The design was inspired by the need to offer the market a boat that was even more competitive and at the same time that demonstrated Benetti’s constant innovation.

Azimut Magellano 43 yacht is the newest addition to the Azimut Yachts’ Magellano Collection for the 2012-2013 Season. Within 13 meters is a full concentration of the Magellano Collection features: smooth navigation in all conditions, excellent cruising range in a modern and Italian take on the traditional trawler. Destined not only for the high seas but also for inland waters navigation, it is available with two versions: flybridge and with hardtop to meet varying owner’s needs.

Luxury yacht Magellano 43 has a significant cruising range at 9-10 knots but it is ready to perform like a planning boat at any time and it is ready to accelerate and reach top speeds up to 18-22 knots. The boating experience is extremely smooth and comfortable at a range of different speeds thanks to the ‘Dual Mode’ hull, creating a reduction in pitch and a significant reduced impact with waves.

The Hainan Rendezvous showcases international yachting brandnames, as well as Asia-based builders, which perfectly matches the aim of the awards. “The Asia Boating Awards are unique in that they bring together international and Asian yacht builders, industry insiders and HNWIs from around the region in one gala ceremony. No other event in the world does this in the way we do,” said Ryan Swift, Editor in Chief of Asia-Pacific Boating magazine, which co-organises the event.

Wang Xinlei, Editor-in-Chief of China Boating, said: “I’m very pleased to see so many good friends here tonight. The tremendous support from boat owners and international yachting industry leaders reaffirms China Boating and Asia-Pacific Boating as the premiere luxury yachting magazines in Asia.”

Taiwan’s Horizon Yachts and Hong Kong’s Kingship were again acknowledged as Asia’s top yacht builders, while the Best Asian Built Yacht, the most sought-after award by Asian yards, went to Gulf Craft’s motor yacht Majesty 135, a first for the UAE builder.

This year’s awards for Best Custom Built Yacht and Best Semi Custom Built Yacht went to Lürssen and Benetti, respectively. Both yards have been very busy over the past year with superyacht launches and the German-based builder has just launched the world’s largest superyacht, the 184-metre mega yacht Project Azzam.

As Asian buyers have snapped up large production yachts in the 100-foot fiberglass category, strong industry interest in the Best Production Motor Yacht 24m-to-40m class has grown. Princess Yachts of the UK walked off with this prize for their highly regarded Princess 40M yacht Imperial Princess. Ferretti Yachts of Italy were very pleased with their victory in the Best Production Motor Yacht 15m-to-24m class with their newly released F690, a fiiting reward for all the firm’s recent efforts in ramping up its Asian operations.

In the sailing categories, the Jeanneau 509 was voted the Best Production Sailing Yacht of 15 to 30 metres while the Beneteau Sense 46 claimed Best Production Sailing Yacht of up to 15 metres. For yacht design, the judges were notably impressed with the Marquis 630 designed by Nuvolari Lenard. Ker Yacht Design, which has been working closely with the Zhuhai-based production team of McConaghy Boats and helping them produce a range of one-design speed machines, was awarded Best Yacht Designer in Asia of the Year.

Asia yacht industry veteran Mike Simpson, who founded the firm that bears his name, was recognized by the judges as Personality of the Year, for his many years of effort in growing the yachting market in Asia.

Many industry VIPs were in attendance at the black tie gala dinner, as were numerous guests of honour, including: Feng Hui, Ge Wei Dong, Chen Wei Jing, Hu Bing, Chun Ni, Mo Xiao Qi and many more.

Video of Benetti celebrating 140 years of Italian excellence

April 03, 2013

Established by Lorenzo Benetti in 1873, Benetti, the oldest manufacturer of superyachts in Italy and the biggest builder of motor yachts in the world, is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year. Below is an amazing video, showing the history of Benetti, part of the Azimut-Benetti Group.

Benetti Yacht NATALY – first Cayman Islands registered yacht to achieve MLC compliance with assistance of Inserve Yachts

April 02, 2013

Inserve Yachts are thrilled to announce that the 2011 Benetti yacht Nataly (ex Amnesia IV) has with their assistance become the first Cayman Islands registered yacht to reach MLC compliance. All elements of the MLC inspection were completed by Cayman Islands inspectors on March 6, 2013.

Luxury motor yacht Nataly launched by Benetti in 2011

The inspection included crew employment and conditions as part of the 14 main sections of the MLC; this latest ILO legislation updates the standards of labour for seafarers, ensuring their working life at sea is regulated fairly and their safety and rights are protected.

The high rate of staff turnover within the superyacht industry has always been a hot topic, with owners and captains keen to provide reassurance to staff that they are committed to their wellbeing whilst on board. MLC compliance indicates that staff will be well looked after and employed under strict laws that both protect them, and make life easier for the owner.

Inserve Yachts’ experience within the industry over the years has given them the knowledge necessary to implement the changes needed to satisfy the Convention. They understand that today, a yacht and crew must comply with an ever increasing legislative burden whilst still delivering the highest standards of performance and service to the owner and guests.

Inserve Yachts have worked closely with the Captain to ensure that the 65m luxury yacht Nataly complies with all the regulatory requirements. Nataly’s documentation was reviewed prior to inspection, including crew contracts of employment and crew insurance, and the safety management system was updated to meet the additional MLC requirements. It was also necessary to make some changes to physical elements of operations on board.

Jon Gray, Director of Inserve Yachts said: “We are pleased to have played such an influential role in ensuring that Nataly has met the requirements of the MLC. Working towards this goal our team have used their knowledge of the industry and adapted their skills to embrace the new Convention.”

Carlo Summonti, Captain of superyacht Nataly said: “Inserve Yachts worked extremely closely with us during the preparations for Nataly’s compliance inspection. Their experience shone through in their work and allowed them to tackle the challenges head on. We are delighted that Nataly is the first Cayman Islands yacht to become MLC compliant.”

Benetti celebrating its 140th anniversary this year

March 28, 2013

Benetti is one of the oldest manufacturers of luxury motor yachts in the world. Founded by Lorenzo Benetti in 1873, the company started life constructing wooden boats used for local as well as international trade.

Benetti celebrating its 140th anniversary

Benetti celebrating its 140th anniversary

After the death of Lorenzo, his two sons Gino and Emilio took over the management of the boatyard. They changed its name to Fratelli Benetti and quickly built up a reputation that extended far beyond the Mediterranean.

After the second world war, with the disappearance of commercial sailing vessels built from wood, Benetti changed direction and began producing pleasure craft made from steel. Then in the early 1960s the boatyard produced its first luxury mega yachts.

Since 1980 the fleet has included big motor yachts in the 30 to 60 meter range and beyond, not least the famous 86-meter yacht ‘Nabila’. In 1985 the Boatyard was acquired by the celebrated Turin-based boat builder Azimut Yacht, which brought in new management and transformed Benetti into the modern, technologically advanced reality we know today: a forward-looking and innovative boatyard, but also one that proudly retains its traditional values of experience, skill and a passion for fine craftsmanship.

Benetti Shipyard

Benetti Shipyard

In fact, for Benetti, building yachts means carrying on the tradition of innovation, style and quality that has shaped the company’s approach and culture. It means continuing to diversify production in order to satisfy the increasingly complex needs expressed by Owners throughout the world.

Benetti has a time-honoured tradition in yacht building. After abandoning wood and being the first to realise the potential of composite materials for the production of megayachts, as early as the 1960s it made the transition from metal boats to the steel and aluminium.

Benetti's Livorno Shipyard

Benetti's Livorno Shipyard

Today Benetti utilizes these materials, alone or combined, to design and build full-custom displacement and semi-displacement motor yachts in a broad variety of lengths from 93 feet to 90+ meters. These truly tailor made vessels embody the Owner’s idea of what a yacht should be, while retaining the Benetti family-feeling that is a natural expression of the finest Italian style and timeless elegance. This production capacity, united with world class quality, fanatical attention to detail and a perfect end result, have made Benetti a world leader and an Italian luxury yacht icon.

Over the years the shipyard has grown and changed, not following but anticipating the times. Once the Fratelli Benetti boatyard was famous for building three-masted wooden schooners for commercial use. Today Benetti motor yachts turn heads at the world’s most famous and exclusive ports of call. Stylish, exclusive and extremely well-crafted, Benetti yachts are well established at the height of Italian Excellence.

“This year will not only be the 140th anniversary of Benetti, it will be also the 10th anniversary of the acquisition of the Livorno Shipyard bought from the Orlando family. We plan a dense calendar of events culminating next June in Portofino with a very exclusive week-end together with our clients from all over the world. Owners that does not come to us to buy a ready made yacht, but to construct one together with us in order to fully express their personality and live a genuine rapport with the sea. Clients who approach us with ideas and expectations that are a challenge and a continuous stimulus and when we meet their brief and make every detail perfect with no concessions to compromise, their success becomes ours. This level of quality and passion are the only route to our next 140 years of success,” commented Ing Vincenzo Poerio – Benetti’s Ceo.

140 years of history, close to 300 boats built, over 300,000 sq mt of production facilities at six shipyards in Italy (Viareggio, Livorno and Fano), 34 yachts under construction at present time including a 90-meter mega yacht. These facts and figures unambiguously demonstrate the momentum of Benetti’s growth and Clients’ unrestrained confidence in the brand.

It is a success story confirmed by the last “Global Order Book” that awarded Azimut|Benetti Group as the “largest builder in the world for custom yachts over 24 meters” for the thirteenth year in a row.

THE NEW AZIMUT DRAGON CHINA MODELS

To provide its Asian, and in particular Chinese, clientele with the best boating experience, Azimut Yachts has devised made-to-measure concepts and styles for this market: the result is the Azimut Dragon China project.

The first Azimut models to appear in ‘Dragon China’ version will be: the Azimut 64 Dragon China, the Azimut 70 Dragon China and the Azimut 80 Dragon China (interior design and concept by Azimut Style Department), and the Azimut 88 Dragon China (interior design and concept by Achille Salvagni Architetti).

This single, coherent project follows the logic of the various models’ characteristics and has been designed to satisfy specific local requirements.

Of course Azimut Yachts’ future projects do not end here. Two new models, the Azimut 80 yacht and superyacht Azimut 95RPH (exteriors designed by Stefano Righini and interior style and concept designed by Achille Salvagni Architetti) will be launched worldwide in second half of 2013: visitors at the Hainan Rendez-Vous will have the honour of being able to see the first exclusive images at the stand.

ATLANTIS BY AZIMUT

THE BRAND DEBUTS IN CHINA WITH THE ATLANTIS 38 SPORT-CRUISER
Making its first appearance in China at Hainan is the Atlantis by Azimut brand, a collection of sport-cruisers comprising six 34 to 60 foot models. Atlantis 38 yacht has been chosen to represent the entire collection, as it interprets its concept perfectly: sporty style and superb liveability both inside and out thanks to the adaptable spaces.

AZIMUT GRANDE

Azimut Grande - after the success of the luxury yacht 120SL, awarded as “Best Motor Yacht over 30 metres” at 2013 “Hurun Best of the Best” (Shanghai on Jan 15th, 2013) – will present Azimut Grande 116’ (example is charter yacht Itaca Club) at the upcoming edition of the Hainan Rendez Vous.

CELEBRATIONS FOR THE 140th ANNIVERSARY START IN HAINAN: EVOLUTION AHEAD WITH BENETTI DESIGN INNOVATION PROJECT
Benetti, the oldest Italian superyacht builder founded in 1873, will begin in Hainan the celebrations of its 140th Anniversary. Moreover, the shipyard will reveal his own future vision in terms of design and construction skills, introducing Benetti Design Innovation Project.

16 of the most reputed international yacht designers have been asked to develop new design concepts for Benetti custom yachts, ranging from 50mt up to 90mt plus, using a defined list of existing platforms and naval architecture. The quality of the projects proved to be very inspiring for the yard in terms of future evolution of its megayachts’ design and style and they also provide an unmatchable number of new ideas to be offered to future clients.
