Cantalupi – THE Italian Yacht Lighting

February 01, 2012

Cantalupi, for decades THE leaders in yacht lighting, are based in Viareggio, Italy. To keep their leading position has been always very challenging and rewarding for them in terms of new technologies and patents developed, new concepts and designs introduced to the market and a unique lighting experience now available to the owners of the best yachts in the world.

Cantalupi - THE Italian Yacht Lighting

Today Cantalupi delivers an environmentally friendly yacht lighting experience that take its clients well into the 21st century. Its services complement the lighting fixtures with lighting controls, lighting calculations and the engineering of the complete lighting project.

For Cantalupi, light is an instrument with two souls. The first is lighting technology. Over the years, they have been following closely developments in the field, studying each new technique carefully and adapting them specifically for use in yachts. The second soul is visual perception, affecting the sensory impressions linked to the illumination of a space.

Cantalupi´s mastery over the source of light lies in their control over these two components. And that´s what makes the difference between mere lighting and the design of light, a design that brings forth the best aspects of architecture.

The L.E.D. design

L.E.D. lighting comes from electronics. And electronics is at the heart of all Cantalupi´s lighting components, which is what they have studied, defined and programmed to perfection in order to ensure control of light.

Cantalupi´s long history has been marked by frequent cooperation with the most important shipyards both in Italy and around the world, such as Azimut-Benetti Group, Ferretti Group, Perini Navi, Sunseeker, Princess, Proteksan Turquoise, Royal Huisman, Oceanco, Feadship, Amels, Lurssen, Nautor´s Swan, Trinity Yachts, and many others.

The Styling Lounge has been fitted out with elegant storage cupboards, created by expert craftsmen from the Benetti shipyard. Each cupboard is a veritable Aladdin’s cave, full of beautiful fabric samples, leathers, woods, mosaics, tiles and marbles from the world’s top designers and craftsmen. It has been designed as a one-stop-shop for yacht owners to review, compare and select the finest materials on offer.

The showroom is finished in high-gloss lacquered Zebrano wood with cream leather furniture and smoked glass screens. Its classic elegance is in contrast to the already existing Styling Lounge, located just 50m away, which has a slightly more contemporary feel, and is used almost exclusively by Azimut customers.

“Our aim was to create the optimum environment where yacht buyers can immerse themselves in the creative process of interior design and styling. There are separate areas for laying out plans, reviewing samples, viewing renderings on large screens, working and relaxing” says Giulia Galanti, the manager overseeing both showrooms. She adds, “We can satisfy a myriad different tastes and preferences to piece together interiors that are an accurate reflection of the buyers’ character and personal style”.

Over 80 people attended the elegant reception last night, including captains, brokers as well as suppliers.

FF1 superyacht is a 37-metre semi-custom yacht made of composite materials, at the boatyard’s historic location in Viareggio, where today six yacht models in the Benetti Class line are built: motor yacht Delfino 93’, yacht Tradition 105’, Classic 121’, Classic Supreme 132’, Crystal 140’ and Benetti Vision 145’ superyacht.

In the presence of the owner, the architect, and the boatyard’s technical staff, the 37m superyacht FF1 was launched for the first time and transported to the mooring facility for completion of on-board work, sea trials, and technical inspections, all of which are necessary prior to final delivery to its owner.

Benetti 121´ FF1 Superyacht

Benetti 121´ FF1 Superyacht

The Classic 121’  yacht FF1 constitutes the iconic Benetti brand par excellence for semi-custom models, and more than ten years ago, it heralded the start of the success for the entire production line. And it’s also in line with the traditional exterior design, created by Stefano Righini in the model with the extended upper deck, a version already successfully tested during the season that just ended.

The sun-deck of the FF1 motor yacht is completely dedicated to relaxation and open-air life: a large bar zone was installed near the bow, including a barbecue together with an extendable table, which can function as both a tea table and a proper dining table. Moreover, a hardtop outfitted with a roll-bar cover and an LED lighting system along the ribbing ensures sun cover during the hottest hours of the day and perfect illumination during the evening hours.

The five-cabin layout of the motor yacht FF1 has the owner’s suite on the main deck, with a study and a dressing room located aft. Two separate bathrooms, his and hers, are located toward the bow. The spaces on the lower deck are arranged in a highly functional manner, with each of the four cabins (two VIP and two guest) offering enviable comfort in both the sleeping and bath areas.

The interior decor, inspired by a simple yet elegant modernity, was developed according to the owner’s specifications. He wanted to clothe his personal spaces for leisure and family life by playing with subtle variations between oak and leather for the furniture, accompanied by bar and galley tops in grey Silestone Amazon Leather with dominant brown tones and Leonardo stone for the bathrooms.

The on-board systems are furnished with the most modern Benetti technology and enable centralised management of all on-board electrical and electronic equipment. From the Quantum Zero speed stabilisers to the navigation wheelhouse – based on innovative integrated architecture – to the central entertainment system BEST (Benetti’s Exclusive Sea Technology). Using simple touch-screen monitors, it’s possible to manage all of the yacht’s functions: from the NavCom instrumentation to the boat systems, home automation, video surveillance, and satellite telecommunications.

The Classic 121’ FF1 motor yacht has a total length of 36.90 metres and maximum beam width of 8.18 metres. Displacement at full load is 259 tonnes; the boat has two MTU 12V2000 M72 engines with 1080 kW. Maximum speed is 15 knots, with cruising at 14 knots possible at 85% power. In addition, at a speed of 11 knots, the yacht has a range of 3,400 nautical miles.

Benetti Yachts

Benetti Yachts

Benetti is one of the world’s oldest builders of megayachts. Founded in Viareggio in 1873 by Lorenzo Benetti, the shipyard started out building wooden, masted barks for local and international commercial purposes, quickly earning its reputation as an industry leader worldwide.

In 1985, Azimut opened a new chapter in Benetti history. The purchase of the Tuscan boatyard signalled a new era of management and capital investment that has made Benetti what it is today: a modern, cutting-edge shipyard ready to meet the challenges of the future, able to offer its owners the world’s most exclusive and refined yachts.

Since then, Benetti’s growth has outpaced that of any other competitor in the sector; it makes over 130 yachts and specialises in the production of semi-custom ranges from 93 to 145 feet as well as completely custom steel and aluminium megayachts of over 45 metres.

In 2003, the Azimut-Benetti Group S.p.A. took over the Cantieri Navali Fratelli Orlando in Livorno, launching a major industrial plan to create a facility specialised in pleasure boating alongside the revitalisation of an urban area and tourist port.

Since 2004 Benetti has been worldwide considered as the leader in mega yacht production. Here are some of the Benetti motor yachts that are currently in charter.
