Tom brings with him a wealth of Fairline experience from his previous role as Sales Manager at Fairline Southampton. Tom attended the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show in January, before moving to be based in Hong Kong.

Tom comments: “I’m very much looking forward to working closely with Fairline dealers across Australasia. By being based in Hong Kong I will be able to offer real time support to the dealer network, and improve yet further our renowned dealer and customer service.”

Bryan Jones, Head of Sales for Australasia and the Americas, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom on board. The appointment concludes our reorganisation of the Yacht Division at Fairline with in-market manufacturer support for the Americas, Australasia and Europe; an industry first. Tom will be a great asset to the team and we are confident that 2013 will see even more dealerships join the Fairline marque seeking to represent one of the world’s leading luxury motor yacht brands.”

The Fairline Yacht Division is a team of experienced yachting professionals who support customers purchasing the Fairline Squadron 65 and 78 CUSTOM (example is charter yacht XKE). The team, which now has six dedicated members, works closely with the design and production teams, and with Fairline’s dealerships, delivering yachts that are uniquely tailored for each customer.

Oceantalk opens Australasia’s eyes to Iris Camera Innovations for yachts.

March 01, 2011

When it comes to seeing underwater or in the dark, things have suddenly become a lot brighter. The camera technology innovator Iris Innovations from the UK has appointed Oceantalk its authorised distributor for Asia and Australia.

The word ‘Iris’ may sound like a part of your eye or a camera lens. In fact it is a major innovator of a complete range of specialist cameras for demanding situations found on motor and sailing yachts.

Oceantalk opens Australasia's eyes to Iris Camera Innovations for yachts.

The Iris range comprises a complete spectrum of cameras that are able to operate in demanding marine environments, including on deck or in the dark, under water, in low light and in no light. The product range comprises not only the cameras themselves, but all the support hardware from the camera to the LCD display and virtually every component in-between.

Iris cameras can be seen in the most demanding applications. Tasks like backing a boat into a tight marina berth at night with a rear mounted camera is a lot smarter than having a separate helm station or leaving the helm to keep checking your progress. You could say having an Iris camera on the stern is like having eyes in the back of your head. Mounting a camera in the engine room can provide peace of mind for skippers who want to keep an eye on things from the convenience of the helm.

The Iris Innovations range encompasses a range of brand names, including Scubar underwater cameras which are ideal for surveying beneath the boat to check a tangled prop, hull condition or other issues. They’re also popular with sports fishermen looking to capture on video the one that got away, before it gets away.

SeaseeTV is a range suited for mounting on board, again a favourite of keen sports fishing and also commercial operators. The range comprises wireless, fixed and controllable cameras along with all the componentry required to create a cohesive system. Tesa thermal imaging cameras help you see in the dark, where there is low light or absolutely no light.

Naturally the Oceantalk team has the know-how and the after sales support to ensure a perfect installation and operation aboard everything from luxury cruisers to sailboats, army tanks to oil tankers. With offices in Australia and Singapore, Oceantalk can supply the right camera system, wherever you are.

New Touch Control Bridge Monitors for Superyachts by Aadaptiv Technologies

February 01, 2011

Aadaptiv has incorporated a number of key unique features into their range of bridge monitors which are ideally suited to operations in the superyacht world. Touch sensitive controls and optically bonded LCD Panels to minimise reflection and maximise clarity, the monitors are an ideal option either for new build or for refit upgrades.

Unlike other monitors on the market, the Aadaptiv touch control system features all the controls built in to monitor ‘edge-2-edge’ front glass. LED touch sensitive controls facilitate ease of operation for the key functions – power, backlight brightness, signal source and the OSD menu and maintain ‘clean lines’ of a true glass bridge. These functions can also be operated by infrared remote control.

The fully watertight display incorporates rear connections which are bottom entry and not through the back – likely to increase the depth and bulk and substantially reducing stowage area. With a 6mm laminated safety glass, the Aadaptiv monitors provide a unique mix and match capability. Based on the brightness output and the LCD panel sizing, a suite of monitors can be created to communicate seamlessly within the same housing, at the same time providing the ability to interface with slow scan legacy signals if being used in a refit and retaining the original systems.

With dual voltage AC/DC power input as standard, the monitor also features an ambient light sensor, which triggers an automatic dimmer to the surrounding light. This works with both daylight and sunlight monitors which are supported and guaranteed with top ratings for clear vision. The monitors are available in four different sizes to provide the best widescreen scale formatting and in a combination of daylight or sunlight displays, as well as waterproof.

Aadaptiv is supported with a full service and back up support network in Europe, United States and Australasia. The monitors are ‘Designed to Comply’ to maritime regulations surrounding recreational and commercial vessels and type approval program is underway.

Audi MedCup: Emirates Team New Zealand Leading

September 21, 2010

Emirates Team New Zealand bounced back from an opening race eighth to lead the Region of Sardinia Regatta.

Audi MedCup 2010 - Region of Sardinia Trophy

Their Region of Sardinia Trophy Regatta lead after Day 1 on the Gulf of Cagliari may be the smallest possible, but Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) proved why they are so firmly on course for their second successive Audi MedCup Circuit today when they stretched their overall Circuit lead still further over 2008 champions Quantum Racing (USA)

After a very modest eighth in the first race the Kiwi champions bounced back to a second and then won the breezy third race to finish the day sharing the same points aggregate  as the Franco-German Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE (FRA/GER) but leading on countback.

For the Kiwi champions, who won here in July last year, that slender lead is only an early, passing bonus – a reflection of their strength and ability. The real satisfaction came as they added another eight points to their Circuit lead over Quantum Racing whose 9,3,7 for the day underlined just how testing the conditions were.

As if to underline once again the small margins between glory and a finish in the lower reaches of the 10 boat 52 Series fleet on a race track which favoured the best starters, in Race 1 José Cusi’s Bribon (ESP) were quickest off the pin end of the start line and able to gain early control of the favoured left side of the course.

They went on to win but then, unable to exert themselves so well off the start line, could only back up their victory by a ninth and an eighth.

Emirates Team New Zealand
were contenders in the top three on approach to the first windward mark, but had to duck out of their port tack approach to round eighth.

Jochen Schumann’s Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE got clear early, jumping off the middle of the Race 2 start line in 6-9 knots of ESE’ly wind. Their sharp start allowed them to reap the dividend on the left, but also taking a perfect line in extra breeze to their final layline to lead around the windward mark. They won their first race since Cascais in May when they crossed the finish ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand.

For the third race in succession it was the team which started best which went on to take the winning gun, although Dean Barker (NZL) and the Kiwi crew had to work hard for their victory.

While the start saw only 6-7 knots of late afternoon breeze, it swung hard left and built left flank of the first beat, new breeze piping up to more than 20 knots.

The gentle breeze was replaced suddenly by marching white horses and full power conditions, still peppered with big swings in direction on different parts of the course as the residual breeze clung to the right of the track.

Emirates Team New Zealand
were able to keep the advances of Matador (ARG) in check at the approach to the second windward mark, when the wind seemed to bang back right, towards the original direction, leaving all three leading boats fast reaching into the final turn, well above the starboard lay line. But the Argentine flagged Matador, with their 2,8,2 for the day lie third, only one point behind the kiwis and Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE.

42’s poised to pounce after practice race
Today’s practice race action might be a prelude for finale of 42 Series off Cagliari where hard work and a little luck yields a change in the lead on the last leg of the race.
In the light 6-8 knot conditions, AIRISESSENTIAL (ITA) showed great promise, leading Madrid-Caser Seguros (ESP) and the rest of the pack around the track by a healthy 30-second margin around the first top mark.

But the series leader, led by skipper Jose Maria van der Ploeg (ESP) and driven by helmsman Paolo Cian (ITA) closed to within less than a boat length at the second top mark, poised to pounce on the Italian team driven by owner/driver Roberto Monti (ITA).

And according to Madrid-Caser Seguros owner Javier Goizueta (ESP), it was just two waves and a little wind that made the difference to propel them to the lead.

“We were just alongside them, and we got lucky: just a little puff came through to us first, and then a couple of waves for us to surge ahead into the lead.”

Madrid-Caser Seguros will be looking to try and repeat this a few more times over the next few days to maintain their slim lead in this final push to overall victory.

Australia: The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show Opens Thursday

May 17, 2010

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show starts this Thursday with a fantastic line up of marine products valued at millions of dollars.

The 22nd annual Show is staged at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast from Thursday, May 20 to Sunday, May 23 from 9am to 5pm daily.

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

This year’s event has drawn 421 exhibitors with on-water displays at the marina, hardstand displays through the waterfront Marine Village and exhibits through three large pavilions.

“Visitors can wander past close to 200 boats on water ranging from super yachts through to glamorous luxury cruisers, sail boats and multihulls,” said Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show general manager Mr Barry Jenkins. If placed bow to stern, on-water displays would stretch close to 3km.

On land, a wide range of marine craft are displayed with wakeboard vessels, trailerable boats, jetskis and kayaks. Three large pavilions showcase electronics, engines, marine safety gear and services.

This year two new components have been introduced – a Prestige Brokerage and Charter area on water and a dedicated Sea Trial area which is an Australian first.

“We know international exhibitors or buyers are coming from United States, New Zealand, China,
Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkey and Italy to name a few countries,” said Mr Jenkins.
“This year we have a contingent of Italian marine companies exhibiting in C pavilion for the first time.”

There are 107 world and Australian marine product releases in close to 15,000sqm of pavilion and hardstand display space.

In the luxury motor yacht area, vessels at the Show include the 22m Adagio from New Zealand; two Assegai custom built sport fishing boats and the world release of the Endurance 750 pilothouse.

Princess showcases the Princess 78 Motor Yacht in an Australian launch while Sunseeker releases
three new vessels – the 80 Yacht, 86 Yacht and 30 Metre Yacht and there are three new relaases on the national market from Fairline.

“It is very difficult to put a figure on the value of these displays. Certainly the combined marine displays at the Show would top some hundreds of millions of dollars,” said Mr Jenkins. Some vessels alone are worth millions of dollars.

The breakfast is held on Friday, May 21 at Hyatt Regency
