Following the success of the inaugural event in 2010, ShowBoats International Magazine is delighted to return to the Mar a Lago Club in Palm Beach for the second annual ShowBoats Superyacht Design Awards.

ShowBoats Superyacht Design Awards

After close consultation with a select group of owners, builders and designers, the list of categories has been adapted to best reflect the talents we aim to recognise. ShowBoats International are excited to announce a revised list of a total of fifteen categories for 2011, now open to accept your nominations.

To qualify for the 2011 ShowBoats Yacht Design Awards, all yachts must be of over 100ft LOA and have been delivered to their owners between January 1st and December 31st, 2010.

Nominations will close on April 11th and the finalists will be selected by Boat International Media’s team of editors. These exemplary designs will then be carefully scrutinised by our panel of judges, each of whom has expert knowledge or experience in the field of design.

The Judges’ Meeting will take place on Thursday June 23rd in Monaco and be chaired by Roger Lean-Vercoe, editor of The Superyachts.  A day of deliberation will conclude with the selection of the most outstanding design in each category.

The winning superyacht designs will be announced during a gala evening at the Mar a Lago Club in Palm Beach on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011.

The size of individual areas, their inter-connectivity and discrete functionality, the service flow, and the work flow of galleys will be taken into account, as will access to technical areas, the level of household equipment and interior decoration.

10. RECREATIONAL AREA FOR GUEST USE AWARD
Entries are accepted from qualifying motor or sailing yachts for one clearly defined recreational space that is intended for general use by the owner and his guests. Examples of this are an aft deck and adjacent saloon combination with wide access between the two, a beach club uniting a bathing platform and an adjacent lounge, a specific deck area with clear boundaries such as a sun deck or a main deck aft, or a saloon. Cabins and other personal spaces do not qualify for this award. Entries will be judged on their functionality, amenities, innovative features, use of space and their practicality of layout.

11. TENDER DESIGN AWARD
This award is presented to the designer of a sports, general service or limousine tender that has been placed aboard a yacht for the first time within the qualifying period. 13. NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is open to designers or design companies who have seen the delivery of their first yacht-related work in the qualifying year. The judges will consider the entry for its design and functionality in relation to the experience of the entrant. The submitted design must have been entered in at least one of the above categories.

14. DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY AWARD
This award is presented to the designer/manufacturer of the most innovative item of technical equipment first installed aboard a superyacht during the past two years. The item must have been either specifically designed for use aboard a yacht or was developed for other applications and subsequently modified for use aboard a yacht. Items which are primarily designed for applications other than a yacht, and have not been specifically modified for use aboard a yacht do not qualify for this award. Judges will consider the level of technology used, its design, functionality and the likelihood of it having a wide reaching acceptance within the superyacht industry.

15. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AWARD
This award will be presented to the yacht builder that, in the opinion of the judges, has made the most significant investment in design solutions, on board equipment and operational procedures that contribute to an improvement of its environmental performance beyond the minimum levels required by mandatory international regulation on environmental protection.
