Prominent hobbyists, professional entertainers, and the world’s most successful business people are selecting European and other western builders based in China’s Zhuhai special yacht-zone to build their floating playgrounds.

Two such builders are European owned NISI yachts, best known for their award-winning NISI collection, and Australian owned McConaghy Boats for its space-age Adastra yacht.

Yachts to discover

NISI was the first innovative yacht to emerge. Based in Zhuhai, a vibrant city on the borders of Macau and a short ferry ride from Hong Kong, she was unveiled last year in Hong Kong and made her debut in Miami. NISI is praised for her stunning design, technological innovation, and remarkable safety features. Described as ‘casual opulence with legendary styling,’ NISI has earned the distinction of exceeding expectations for new yacht builds.

Superyacht Adastra was commissioned five years ago by the billionaire, Hong Kong-based shipping magnate Anto Marden. His plans for Adastra include voyaging between two islands he owns off the Indonesian coast. If he chooses, he can also control the futuristic trimaran yacht Adastra with an Apple iPad from within 50 meters of the vessel. John Shuttleworth, who designed the Adastra, told editors that the 42.5-meter yacht “takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before.”

Showcasing naval architecture by Setzer Design group, NISI 2400 yacht is absolutely iconic in yachting circles. She has been honored with the International Superyacht Society Design Award, “Best Design” 2011 World Yachts Trophy, and named Robb Report ‘Best of the Best’ winner in the annual ‘wings and water’ category. At 24-meters, she is also the only yacht in the world under 100 feet built to RINA Charter Class with MCA Commercial standards.

China is an emerging market that has established its ability to create luxury products. We deliver credibility and quality in yacht building,” said Christos Livadas, Founder and CEO of NISI Yachts. “Executing on projects as sophisticated as NISI and Adastra, to such perfection, is only viable in China.”

NISI’s most talked-about design element, the experience of discovering the perfect beach club, inspires new interior styles that have awakened a new mindset amongst yacht owners. Performance is just as exhilarating. Offering maximum speed of 30 knots, yet a fuel-efficient range of 1,500 nautical miles at 9 knots, she pleases eight guests and two crew members.

Adastra’s maximum speed is 22.5 knots. Her range is an astonishing 4,000 nautical miles at 17 knots, which is like traveling from the UK to New York in a single trip without refueling. She has accommodations for nine passengers and five crew members.

Yachts that include such notable efficiency features have set the bar high for environmentally friendly long-range cruising. Combined with the most envied styling and technological advancements, it is easy to see why the world’s elite is making China their choice for new yacht projects.
