Newport Exhibition Group, owners, as well as producers of the Newport International Boat Show, have unveiled its educational programs for the 43rd annual event. The largest boat show in the lovely American yacht charter destination – New England and the ‘kick off’ to the Fall boat show season, the Newport International Boat Show is committed to furthering recreational boating by offering skilled and novice boaters more possibilities than ever to learn about and experience boating while attending the event.

Scheduled programs include Discover Boating’s Hands On Skills Training (HOST) series – allowing boaters to take to the water and learn new skills or hone existing ones, Lee Chesneau’s Marine Weather – a one-day, entry-level course on understanding weather forecasting, Discover Sailing’s Introduction to Sailing – for individuals or families who want to experience the sailing lifestyle, and Pam Wall’s seminars – a series of sailboat cruising presentations.

In its second year, the Newport International Boat Show’s exclusive Discover Boating HOST series will offer one- to three-hour on-the-water powerboat and sailboat workshops throughout the four-day event, that are designed to teach and improve boating skills. With classes for both first time and experienced boaters, the HOST programs are taught by US Coast Guard licensed captains who are professional, certified instructors from the Recreational Powerboating Association (RPBA) and the American Sailing Association (ASA).

On Sunday, September 15th, Lee Chesneau will provide an introduction to weather principles, definitions, surface weather systems and their features, and surface marine weather charts to help attendees build confidence in their own weather forecasting skills. Designed for power and sail boaters alike, the topics are equally applicable to near shore and offshore boating.

Throughout the four-day event, Sail America’s Discover Sailing program will offer free 45-minute sailing sessions, run by experienced captains in Newport Harbor, for families or individuals to experience the wonderful sailing lifestyle.

Sponsored by West Marine, Pam Wall, an engaging speaker with extensive first hand cruising experience, will present various topics on the cruising lifestyle as part of the show’s seminar series. On Friday, September 13th, she will educate her audience on Outfitting for Blue Water Cruising on Deck and Outfitting for Blue Water Cruising Below Deck. On Saturday, September 14th, she will focus on destinations with Cruising the Bahamas and Cruising the Abacos in the Bahamas. On Sunday, September 15th, she’ll discuss family and technology with For the Children, A Family Sails Around the World and Cool Products No One Knows About.

“We are proud of the educational programs we have put together for the 43rd annual Newport International Boat Show and the opportunities it provides for boaters of all skill levels,” said Tom Delotto, director of Newport Exhibition Group. “Boating safety and confidence is the result of continued learning and experience, and our programs provide both. They are a valuable component of the largest boat show in New England and a great way for individuals to get the very best from their time at the show.”

Expected to draw tens of thousands to historic Newport, the Newport International Boat Show will take place September 12-15, 2013 on the Newport Waterfront along America’s Cup Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. One of the largest in-water boat shows in the country, the event will host nearly 750 exhibitors from around the world with an exceptional assortment of boats of every type and style from 15 to 85 feet, and a wide variety of accessories, equipment, electronics, gear and services for boaters.

Online tickets are available through the Newport International Boat Show website. Children under 12 are admitted free any day when accompanied by an adult. On Friday only, visitors with a valid Military or Newport County Resident ID receive half price admission.
