Thailand has announced major plans to reboot tourism and is now welcoming charter yachts to a reduced quarantine of only ten days – with further reductions also coming soon. Thailand is an incredible destination for a luxury charter holiday, with bustling cities, high-end shopping, or – for those who prefer the ‘island-time’ lifestyle – amazing isolated bays and beaches.

The Thai cabinet has approved a progress plan starting April 1, 2021, with the first step of the plan shortening quarantine for visitors from 14 days to 10 days for arrivals from most countries.

“In other good news for yachts, the Thai Customs Department has extended a temporary entry exemption from one year to two years, with owners allowed to fly in and quarantine on yachts”, notes Khun Jojo, representing the Thai Yachting Business Association.

The next stage of the plan is to open Phuket and other select destinations to fully vaccinated tourists with a reduced seven-day quarantine requirement. Then, as of July 1, 2021 and pending approval from the Thai cabinet, vaccinated tourists and yachts will be able to travel to Phuket with no quarantine requirement.

Finally, from October 1, 2021 and if the plan proves successful, the quarantine requirement will be removed for vaccinated tourists in Phuket and select destinations, with both the western Andaman Sea (Phuket) and eastern Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui) open to yachts.

In 2022, Thailand plans to lift all quarantine requirements for foreign visitors. With Phuket being the first destination open to vaccinated tourists, this is where Thailand will focus its vaccination efforts. The government hopes to vaccinate 70% of the city’s population before July. This is very exciting news for Thailand – where tourism is a main contributor to the economy.
