Motivation and dynamism, two words that picture the spirit of the yards
Despite the crisis, when most of the small boatyards have really thought to close their doors, it seems that a new energy leads wood workers… One of the characteristics of the Wood Village’s yards is that boats are usually built in small series and are built with lots of attention and passion from the manufacturers. Yes, we can say this is passion! Think about the numbers of hours spent to reach perfection: selecting the finest materials, taking care of the finishing touches… This is why we say that the boats of the Wood Village represent the “haute couture” boating.

A significant turnover proportion made in six days
The exhibition allows small yards to achieve a significant share of their turnover in six days. The booth price, the opportunity to come by the sea and to live aboard the boats are real assets for these small companies. Created in 1989, this space gives the opportunity to small yards to present their novelties and innovations in a privileged setting, afloat and ashore.

Remember that “Belle Plaisance” comes along with high technologies and high-quality materials: polyester hulls, epoxy, carbon, strip planking, moulded wood… it has to be perfect. Enjoy meeting the designers and finally possess the boat that you will keep and pass on, these are the buyers’ values.

News expected by visitors
The fans will have the pleasure to discover the 2011 new boats and will appreciate:
– The Verd’O by Alexandre Genoud
– The Sterell from Kernautic
– The D480 of Invent Team
– “L’Etroit Mouquestaire” from the shipyard MER – design Gilles Montaubin

A design competition launched in the Wood Village with the magazine “Chasse Marée”
We want to sail close to men and nature by being free from all the technical and logistical burdens of conventional vessels, by having an easier handling, by saving space and material resources. So we have decided to launch a design competition open to non-professionals or professionals, to create original and innovative design. Stay tuned!

Presence of the Yacht Club Classique
The Yacht Club Classique was created 5 years ago. Before that they used to have a close collaboration with the “Musée Maritime de La Rochelle” for ten years. Managed by François Frey, the Yacht Club Classique has developed over the years with the major yacht clubs of the West Atlantic, an annual 12 courses regatta called the “French Challenge Classique Atlantique” that takes place all along the Atlantic coast and the Channel, from April to October. Every day, it will be possible to discover prestigious boats that have remarkable stories at the Event pontoon (pontoon 15) and in the Wood Village. You will be able to meet the leaders of the Club and learn more about the regatta “Grand Pavois” that is held during the fair, in Brittany.

The club, that is managed by real fans of the “Belle Plaisance”, has beautiful vessels like the Bernard Moitessier’s boat the legendary Joshua (Knocker Design 1962) that will be displayed again at the Grand Pavois, as well as numerous Sergent, Cornu, Merle Sparkman & Stephens, Illingworth, Carter, Camatte designs and William Fife III design with Merry Dancer and Viola or Mylne’s with Lady Trix… Historical designers that have put a mark in the history of the America’s Cup and major ocean races.

Legendary boats
Together with the Sprays (Saint Briac and Joshua) many historic monuments: Joshua, Argo, Général Leclerc, Laisse-les-dire…

The oldest: Argo, she is 100 years old in 2010! Followed by Clapotis and Lola, 90 years old each, Laisse-les-dire is 80 years old. The most legendary ones should be, for sure, Spray of Slocum accompanied by Joshua!

Enchanting Tahiti

The Eco-Boating Space
This space will give us general information for an environmentally friendly sailing. The exhibitors are acting to preserve the marine environment and to answer the various questions of professionals and boaters on the subject. The whole Grand Pavois will live at the rhythm of eco-boating. We will talk about eco-design for example: it is urgent to find alternatives with new manufacturing processes to reduce environmental impact that becomes a real problem over the years. The boating industry is waiting for recycling solutions and waste recovery. The regulation becomes stricter about the manufacturing processes and we see the development of natural resins and plastics, development of new processes such as injection for the construction of plastic shells and resin infusion. These technologies discharge the least Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) into the atmosphere.

A survey conducted by Echo Mer (association for eco-friendly boating and sea protection) shows that 74% of the marine companies from La Rochelle do not use a system of waste recovery because of a lack of wastes and recycling organisation. But it is the same for other regions and this becomes a real concern. Yachtsmen actually do not know how to “get rid” of a boat that became cumbersome and who they should contact? Are there any breaker’s yards for boats? So many questions that the sailing industry and its partners must answer by offering solutions like recycling and materials recovery. They will find answers at Dépollution Nautique’s booth, a company specialist for boats deconstruction, that will be close from Eco-Nav, an association involved in eco-friendly sailing.
