Sant Carles Marina in Catalonia, MDL’s first Spanish location, has opened a fantastic berthing area designed specifically to easily accommodate catamarans in the Mediterranean.  MDL is also offering catamaran owners the chance to enjoy berthing fees at the same competitive rates as monohull owners – with no additional surcharges for the beam size.

Catamarans are spacious, stable boats that are ideal to cruise the Mediterranean – with Sant Carles Marina becoming a popular home port for many. However due to the size of their beam, owners often incur extra costs or surcharges at marinas.

As of 1st December 2010, catamaran owners will not be charged any surcharges for annual berthing at MDL’s Spanish resort. This will be guaranteed for a minimum of three years and berth holders on the med moorings will get the same competitive annual berth rates as monohull owners. Additionally if berth holders select the four-year berthing option, the price will remain fixed for the term – with no annual berthing increases and no surcharge for catamarans.

Neil Salter, International Operations Director at MDL Marinas, commented: “We have a number of catamarans at our marina and Sant Carles is increasingly becoming a popular location for owners to enjoy and explore the Mediterranean. When it comes to berthing, catamaran owners often face additional charges due to the size of their beam. To ensure as many boat owners as possible can enjoy the delights of Sant Carles Marina without incurring extra costs, we have created a new berthing area with adjustable berths to accommodate wider beams.”

If catamarans berthed at Sant Carles Marina are too wide for the marina’s hoist dock, the Sant Carles team has pledged to help customers with their boat lifting and storage ashore requirements. The team has the ability to facilitate a crane booking where a number of catamarans are lifted out and back at the same time, helping to reduce costs. Alternatively, other individual lifting arrangements can be made.

Sant Carles Marina provides the ideal solution for multihulls – access to great cruising areas and a sheltered lagoon just outside the marina. Owners can also experience boating the renowned MDL way that is enjoyed by over 7,000 berth holders in the UK alone. These benefits include safe and secure berths, superb marina facilities and fantastic service – all at no additional cost for catamaran owners.

MDL has played a central role in the development of the modern day marina, providing easy-to-access fully serviced pontoon berths, high quality on-shore facilities and 24-hour staffing. MDL’s first site in the UK was on the River Thames and following a number of waterfront success stories, the company has grown to become Europe’s largest marina group.

MDL owns and operates 19 UK marinas and boatyards which are situated in prime locations across the South West (Brixham, Dartside Quay, Queen Anne’s Battery, Torquay), along the South Coast (Cobb’s Quay, Hamble Point, Hythe Marina Village, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Northney, Ocean Village, Port Hamble, Saxon Wharf, Shamrock Quay, Sparkes), along the Thames (Bray, Penton Hook, Windsor) and across the East Coast (Chatham Maritime, Woolverstone).

A range of berthing options are available, from short-term through to annual berthing and pontoon berths through to dry stack.

In addition to the UK sites, MDL also operates first-class marinas in Spain (Sant Carles in Catalonia) and Italy (Marina dei Cesari in Fano).
