McKay, a marine electrical company specializing in yachts ranging from 30 to 145 meters in length, is introducing the McKay Integrated Monitoring, Alarm and Control System (MIMACS) at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show – Y&B Tent, Booth 700.

MIMACS is a completely scalable alarm monitoring and control system. MIMACS ranges from a small-sized, single processor configuration, to a 10,000+ tag client, multi-server system with several Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

MIMACS is based on a commercial Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, resulting in state-of-the-art techniques and robust, proven hardware. The hardware for the HMIs can be based on standard PCs and/or touch screen PanelPCs with screen sizes 10 inches and up. McKay’s preferred PLC brand for the system is the Schneider Modicon – either Premium or Quantum, depending on the functionality and size of the system), but we can use any type of (soft) PLC from major brands, including Modicon, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, etc.

As an option, McKay can implement additional wireless HMIs, such as tablet PCs and PDAs, so as to monitor the vessel remotely.

As MIMACS is a modular and flexible system, it can be completely tailored to the shipyard’s requirements. McKay combines all processes involved in alarm and monitoring efficiently. By integrating different systems and functions into one control system, MIMACS provides new added-value in comfort, communication, quality and efficiency.

MIMACS can also be configured to operate as a Power Management System (PMS) comprised of a separate PLC, HMI and IO rack, typically all mounted in, or adjacent to the Main Switchboard (MSB). The HMI mounted in the MSB provides monitoring and control of the generators, shore power, load shedding, etc. Meanwhile, an Ethernet link enables power management parameters and alarms to be viewed on any of the MIMACS HMIs throughout the vessel. The user interface on the MSB HMI is very similar to the other MIMACS HMIs. As such, the MIMACS power management hardware is stand-alone, yet the user gets the experience of a totally integrated system.

McKay also designs and manufactures type tested switchboards from Prisma (Schneider) and Cubic. These panel systems allow the flexibility to customize switchboards based on the client’s specific requirements, including any nominated third-party equipment. McKay Switchboards can be provided with full bus bar access or as a compact solution for the retrofit of new switchboards into existing room with space restrictions for example.

Designed for the superyacht industry, McKay Main and Emergency Switchboards are fully automated with generator control; load control; integrated shore power; and bow thruster units. Cubic is a fully type tested modular switchboard system, according to IEC 60439-1, capable of up to 7000A with a 120kA, 1 Sec short circuit with-stand. It meets all requirements of commonly used accreditation bodies, including KEMA; ASTA; UL; DNV; GL; BV; and Lloyds.

A wide variety of panels are available, including small to large Distribution Boards; Power Distribution Centers; Fully Automated Main Switchboards with generator control; Motor controls centers, including fully withdrawable starter cells; PLC/control panels; Custom made IP 65 panels; and Operator panels.
