Palma de Mallorca’s most central harbour, Marina Port de Mallorca, celebrated the advent of spring and the start of the high season by treating its customers and friends to a barbecue at which all the harbour’s employees lent a hand by baking cakes, making mojito cocktails and helping to barbecue the meat. The result was a resounding success, drawing lots of guests, as crew and captains remarked at the end of the evening. Marina Port de Mallorca’s aim in holding this event was to start off the new sailing season by including all the harbour’s customers and putting into practice its philosophy of providing captains and crew with an enthusiastic, customer-focussed service.

Among the guests was double bassist Thierry Petit of the National Orchestra of Montpellier. The musician, who has taken to the waves with the project La Contrebasse Voyageuse en Méditerranée (The Travelling Double Bass in the Mediterranean), is currently moored at Marina Port de Mallorca. At each port of call, music will be composed, played by an orchestra and recorded, to create a musical “patchwork”. The Balearic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Salvador Brotons, is participating in the cross-border project, while the second leg of the voyage is being planned with composers and orchestras in Greece, Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia.

Marina Port de Mallorca treats its customers as if they were part of one big family, and so strong was the family spirit at the barbecue that the event may well be repeated.
