The Washington maritime industry is pleased with the passage of the Marine Tourism Bill, which passed the state House of Representatives in special session in July, 2015. The new law went into effect from September 1st, 2015, allowing yachts registered as an LLC to stay in Washington waters for up to 180 days tax-free. Once the 180 days have passed, 10% tax on the values of the yacht is imposed by the state of Washington. This is fantastic news for superyacht owners and charterers wanting to visit this spectacular North American yachting destination and explore the enchanting San Juan Islands.

Discerning travellers wanting to discover North America’s treasures and breath-taking landscape will now have more opportunities and time to do so. Yacht charterers coming to Washington can now fully indulge in cruising around the many sheltered islands of the San Juans. From whale watching, kayaking, fishing and hiking through to fine dining and shopping, there is plenty to do and see around here.

The San Juan Islands provide a wide range of natural beauty, short port-to-port passages and a fabulous selection of onshore entertainment. The facilities available in the San Juans provide just about everything a yacht charter guest could ask for, from resorts, marinas, shopping and craft markets, to museums, art galleries and waterfront restaurants. The main islands to visit on a San Juan yacht charter are Orcas Island, San Juan Island and Lopez Island, but there are many other charming islands that are worth a visit. For those in love with the nature, a 113-acre state marine park nearby is a great place to explore while in the area.
