Recently installed with Dometic Marine’s custom chilled water system, the beautiful brand-new 50-metre sailing yacht Ohana is due to be delivered to her new Owner this month. Constructed by the prominent NZ builder Fitzroy Yachts, the 400-tonne superyacht Ohana is a spectacular flybridge sloop, featuring the Marine Air four-stage chiller, which provides 288,000 BTUs for cooling and heating of all cabin as well as accommodation areas.

Supported by Whiting Power Systems, the equipment was fitted for the Ohana yacht’s launch on October 28 in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Marine Air’s chilled water air conditioning systems consist of the chiller, located in the engine room, that cools (or heats) fresh water, then pumps it through an insulated piping loop to air handlers located in the living spaces, where the air is cooled.

Chilled water air conditioning systems are ideal for boats over 24m, with the advantages being no limitation on the number of air handlers in a system, or on the distance from the chiller to the air handlers. They also offer flexible load management and often a reduced peak electrical load.

Through its Marine Air brand, Dometic Marine supplies an extensive range of HVAC equipment, including chilled water, direct expansion split gas and self-contained systems.

Grant Crawford, Whiting Power Systems’ Sales and Export Manager, said: “We have a long relationship with Dometic and Marine Air. Whiting Power Systems is able to provide excellent regional support in the area.”

Ben Haynes, Dometic Marine International Technical Sales Manager, added: “Our relationship with Whiting Power is built on trust because the service and attention is available when they need it and we have confidence in their distribution.”

Fitzroy Yachts commissioned Dubois Naval Architects to design superyacht Ohana, with the European owner designing and styling the modern interior. Along with the well-appointed master cabin aft, there are five cabins for 10 guests and eight crew members.

Luxury yacht Ohana, the Hawaiian word for family, will achieve a maximum speed of 18 knots under sail and will make her debut on the race circuit at the 2013 New Zealand Millennium Cup in Auckland from 14-17 February.

Dometic Marine supplies a comprehensive range of air conditioning, toilet, refrigeration, galley and other equipment to high-profile OEMs globally.
