There are few destinations as picture-perfect as the Croatia yacht charter grounds, which see many tourists falling in love and returning year after year to indulge in a feast for the sense in this vibrant and thriving country. Here are five reasons why Croatia should be your next luxury yacht charter destination in 2020.

Amazing cultural attractions

With Italy just across the Adriatic Sea it’ll come as no surprise that Croatia is filled with ancient Roman ruins – but their beauty must be seen to be appreciated to its fullest.

Zadar along the Dalmatian Coast is a popular yacht charter destination because of the Roman and Venetian structures carefully preserved in the Old Town along the harbour, with the Roman Forum and Archaeological Museum of Zadar giving glimpses into the region’s past. Modern culture is also alive and thriving, and the cosmopolitan streets boast plenty of eateries, boutiques and galleries to fill a whole day.

The nearby Kornati National Park is also an unmissable treat, where visitors will discover villages largely untouched by the passage of time, crystal clear dive sites and deserted beaches for partying, sunbathing and playing beach games for hours. To zip between these various destinations, open yacht MOWANA is capable of reaching a top speed of almost 30 knots for less time in transit and more experiencing the destination. Her deluxe accommodation, bar and adjustable foredeck sunbeds ensure a weekend of luxury on the water.

For exploring the islands at a more languid pace, 2019-built ARCHELON from Oyster Yachts has versatile convertible cabins, light and airy salons and spacious outdoor areas for dining and lounging with changing views of the coastal ruins, settlements and beaches as you cruise throughout the daylight hours.

Farther south, Split also has the Roman ruins of the Diocletian’s Palace and Dubrovnik is a breath-taking UNESCO World Heritage Site that visitors should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Exceptional natural beauty

If you’re looking for magnificent beauty spots then you’ll be spoiled for choice in Croatia, even outside the national parks: Istria is known all over the world for its towering pales cliffs that separate the brilliant blues of the sea and sky, while the surrounding flora is robust and bursting with colour. Visitors to Istria often start or end in Venice – a magical location and worth including on an Adriatic luxury yacht charter – and cruise to Novigrad and its surrounding golden sand beaches, the historic town of Poreč, and Rovinj for its fishing and historic old town.

Farther south, the Dalmatian Coast is renowned for its beaches, vineyards and ruin-dotted islands that would be fantastic treasure-hunting spots for kids, not to mention the clear seas in sheltered bays for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.

Then there are the underwater wonders – Scuba dive amongst colourful coral reefs, caves and shipwrecks to see some of the finest sights that the region has to offer. Luxury yacht CALYPSO I has Scuba diving gear on board in addition to Seabobs and stand-up paddleboards, so you can engage with the incredible natural beauty. And once you return on board, you’ll have a sumptuous three-course meal and refreshing drinks from the back-lit bar awaiting you, plus sun-drenched sun pads and a Jacuzzi to rest and digest in peace.

Once you’ve found an area of outstanding natural beauty, it pays to spend as much time outdoors as possible to admire not only the scenery but the wildlife that inhabits it as well. S/Y LADY GITA is a luxurious home away from home promising extensive outdoor living areas, including the main deck aft alfresco dining and lounging area, an extensive foredeck dining and sunbathing area, and even more to be found on the flybridge above, including a Jacuzzi. What’s more, she has an extensive collection of water toys to explore the treasures beneath the clear blue water.

Exotic wildlife

Dolphins, turtles and even sea horses are to be found within the waters around Rovinj for those careful enough to look, and throughout the Adriatic there is an abundance of Scuba diving sites for up-close encounters with nudibranchs, sharks, octopi and other unusual species.

Fishing enthusiasts will be pleased with the variety of potential catch as well: Lobster, grouper and mackerel are just some of the options you could enjoy perfectly seasoned by your expert onboard chef and accompanied by fine local wine.

To get up close to these stunning lagoons, a shallow draft such as that on luxury catamaran LISA of the SEAS is essential and reduces reliance on the tender. Catamarans also provide greater stability and have a wider beam than monohulls of the same length, providing even more space on board. They are great for family groups with children, who love to bounce on the forward net trampolines. LISA of the SEAS has abundant sunbathing areas and even a foredeck Jacuzzi – a rare and welcome addition for a sailing catamaran.

Motor sailer AURUM SKY is a gorgeous 44.5m/146ft vessel featuring pristine cream interiors with the only contrast being the black screen of the widescreen TVs in the lounge and generous guest accommodation. These stately surroundings are perfect for celebrating a special occasion, and outside the decks offer multiple options for alfresco dining, lounging and sunbathing. The flybridge hosts a massive spa pool where the group can lie back and admire the surroundings, and the collection of water toys is designed for fun above and below the water.

Music festivals

Time your visit with one of the amazing festivals and the summer air around the Istrian Peninsula and Dalmatian Islands will be filled with the sound of electronic beats from international DJs: Pula, Split, Tisno and Novalja all have events planned for young adults, and family-friendly concerts can be found in open-air amphitheatres around the coast.

If you have in mind to host your own amazing party, Benetti superyacht HAPPY ME and Azimut luxury yacht HEED both have an onboard karaoke system, fantastic indoor and outdoor entertaining areas and at least one Jacuzzi. Both are also Approved RYA Water Sports Centres and have a whole host of water toys to take the fun into the water.
