Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaac affects Trinity Yachts’ New Orleans, Louisiana and Gulfport, Mississippi yards

August 31, 2012

The recent hurricane/tropical storm Isaac has affected the yards of the respected US luxury yacht builder Trinity Yachts in New Orleans, Louisiana as well as Gulfport, Mississippi.

Trinity Yachts' New Orleans Shipyard

Trinity Yachts' New Orleans Shipyard

Here are details regarding affects on Trinity Yachts’ yards:

- The New Orleans yard was hit by a Category 1 hurricane while the Gulfport yard was hit by a tropical storm with 9’ of storm surge.

- There was no damage to the Gulfport yard or to any of the yachts and other vessels under construction. The yard will return to work today, August 31.

- The New Orleans yard did take a direct hit but the recently completed floodgates protecting the city of New Orleans did their job protecting the city. Despite a storm surge of 11’, the shipyard is located inside of the new levee protection system and had about 18” of water come over the bulkheads, which is not a problem for the shipyard.

- The only damage to the New Orleans shipyard was to some roof panels of the covered wetslip which was not occupied at the time.

- The Trinity built 164’ (50m) motor yacht MIA ELISE, which was moored at the New Orleans yard for some maintenance work and modifications, had no problems during the storm. The crew, led by Captain Ron Wood, did a great job preparing the yacht for the approaching storm and she suffered no damage.

- The New Orleans yard will re-open on Monday, September 3, when the City of New Orleans restores power.

Each system installed on the 187 foot superyacht Lady Linda and 198 foot megayacht Areti monitors and controls approximately 450 – 500 sensor points, collecting data from the yacht’s main propulsion engines, generator sets, HVAC and switchboard systems, tanks / bilges levels, fire alarms, bilge and pump control, plus all other class essential information. The data is then presented on independent fully functional workstation displays distributed throughout the vessel, allowing the operator full access to the system at each location.

Trinity motor yacht WHEELS passes through the new Seabrook Floodgate Complex sector gates as the first private vessel

July 27, 2012

One day ahead of schedule, July 3 saw the green light go on at the new Seabrook Floodgate Complex indicating water traffic could pass through the new sector gates for the first time since construction started more than 18 months ago. The first private vessel to pass through the 95-foot sector gates was the sleek 164ft motor yacht Wheels that was constructed by Trinity Yachts on France Road, a neighbor to the Seabrook Floodgate Complex.

“We were delighted to see the Seabrook gates open for water traffic,” said John Dane III, President of Trinity Yachts. “Not only have we regained our access to Lake Pontchartrain, but this mighty structure will help defend this area against future storms coming from Lake Pontchartrain, while the IHNC Surge Barrier wall and sector gates will defend from storms coming from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.”

Mr. Dane further pointed that the France Road shipyards of Trinity Yachts, a derivative of the famous Higgins boat makers of World War II, will be within the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System for the first time in its 70-year history. “We’re very happy about that.”

The Seabrook Floodgate Complex, located at the mouth of the Industrial Canal at Lake Pontchartrain, is one of the largest and most critical projects in the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System. In addition to its 95-foot sector gates, the Complex includes two 50-foot wide vertical lift gates which flank the sector gates.

Seabrook was designed to work in tandem with the IHNC Surge Barrier at Lake Borgne, located at the confluence of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO). Both hurricane defense structures are ready to defend against the 100-year storm, even as work continues.

Trinity Yachts Luxury Yacht LADY LINDA Running

Trinity Yachts Luxury Yacht LADY LINDA Running

Of paramount importance to the owners, luxury yacht Lady Linda needed to be built for berthing behind their Florida residence, to be capable of handling the shallow waters of the Bahamas and to provide guests matching accommodations. By designing her with an expansive 33’4” (10.2m) beam, Trinity Yachts accomplishes these critical requests. Her wide beam allows for a shallow 8’ (2.4m) draft—allowing access to shallow-water berths, ports and destinations which are generally unavailable to yachts of similar length and size—and creates enough space for equally-sized guest cabins.

Lady Linda superyacht’s forward main deck full-width king master suite is ensuite his shower, her shower and Spa Pool. More her roomy size includes a large owner’s office as part of the master suite. The owner also specified a half-beam gym aft of the pilothouse which—with Trinity’s design ingenuity —easily converts into the fifth guest cabin.

The four half-beam equally-sized guest staterooms are located amidships below. Stunning in their design, the staterooms are oriented to the ocean; incredible sea view vistas are available in each. All are ensuite, roomy and exquisitely detailed with granite, marble and soft, earthy colors.

The main deck features an elegant entrance foyer and voluminous socializing space in the main and dining salons. Advanced electronics include auto lifting television systems, total surround sound and networked computer equipment with uninterrupted power sources. Lady Linda’s galley, skylounge and sundeck are outfitted with the finest makes and models from Wolf to Miele, Viking and Subzero. Lady Linda yacht’s crew quarters—including a spacious lounge—are also equipped with top-of-the-line utilities and comforts.

The sundeck also features a large bar and seating, a hot tub, is “touch and go” heli-ready and is equipped with a davit suitable for rescue tender, jet skis and water toys.

As with all Trinity superyachts, collaboration between owner, owner’s rep—Mr. Ingo Pfotenhauer—builder and interior designer creates a truly custom yacht built to exacting specification. The result is the delivery of a truly magnificent yacht Lady Linda (hull T050).
