Yacht ULYSSES – now Motor Yacht Grand Rusalina refitted by Monaco Marine

February 21, 2014

Written by Zuzana Bednarova

During a mere routine pre-sale boat lift, Monaco Marine‘s engineers noticed an extensive failure in the propulsion system of the 59m Trinity yacht Ulysses – now motor yacht Grand Rusalina. They immediately suggested a deeper diagnosis test and unmistakably found that the whole transmission system was damaged. In front of the efficiency and perspicacity of Monaco Marine’s engineers, the captain and the buyer’s representative asked for a quote, in order to perform the repair of superyacht Ulysses.

First technical and logistical feat, less than three days were necessary to make a complete diagnosis and thus be able to give a quote and a work schedule with a firm launch date, end of January 2014, thus only 60 days after luxury yacht Ulysses reached La Ciotat.

The whole Monaco Marine engineering team headed by Cyprien Milhe, in charge of this unexpected mission, worked very hard to offer a quick solution to meet the customer’s needs, the Lloyd’s regulatory requirements and a tough schedule with no possible delays! Each step of this repair was supervised and analysed in this view!

Here lies Monaco Marine’s second technical achievement, they were able to meet the deadline despite the complexity of works. The intervention consisted in a complete realignment of the propeller shafts and checking some bearings, axles and other parts at the hundredth of millimeter that they controlled, modified and even machined in their own precision engineering workshops. Many vibration tests were made during the whole process and because Monaco Marine’s engineers are approved by most major certification organizations for complex operations like applying the engine Chockfast process, they were able to rapidly achieve all these works in-house in keeping with Lloyd’s requirements.

Monaco Marine are proud that their teams, thanks to their expertise and total commitment to the client’s satisfaction, have won this challenge while meeting the deadline: in less than 60 days, Ulysses yacht is cruising again, ready for her future owner.

SYBAss Pavilion at Dubai Boat Show 2014 to reinforce UAE’s status as a hub for superyachts

February 18, 2014

Written by Zuzana Bednarova

As stated by the leading trade organisation Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), the Middle East represents one of the most significant superyacht markets, with the highest growth as owners of luxury superyachts in the region continue to increase swiftly. The SYBAss Pavilion at the upcoming Dubai International Boat Show 2014 is expected to reinforce the UAE’s status as a hub for superyachts as yacht enthusiasts conduct business with the world’s best superyacht manufacturers.

The 22nd edition of Dubai International Boat Show organised by Dubai World Trade Centre, runs from 4-8 March 2014 at Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi, and will capitalise on the Middle East’s position as one of the world’s leading luxury superyacht destinations with superyacht ownership continuing to rise.

Robert van Tol, Operational Director, Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), said: “While traditionally, Western Europe and North America are the major markets for superyachts of 40 metres and above in numbers, due to the many ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWI) in these regions, the penetration percentage of each area – the number of UHNWIs versus number of superyacht owners – provides a much more interesting insight into the markets.”

“The 2013 SYBAss Economic Report, developed in cooperation with Boston Consulting Group, reveals that the Middle East has the highest ‘propensity to buy’ a superyacht, at 48%. This means that nearly half of the UHNWIs in the Middle East are likely to own or buy a superyacht – higher than anywhere else in the world,” he added.

The largest yacht in the world mega yacht Azzam and around a third of the other 200 largest yachts globally are owned by the residents and nationals of the Middle East, according to a 2013 market analysis conducted by Boat International.

These figures are further validated as the superyacht industry plows full speed ahead, with 2014 slated to be the first year for an increase in superyacht builds since 2009, according to the 2014 ShowBoats International Global Order Book.

The Dubai International Boat Show will host 19 superyachts on water this year, including the largest boat to be displayed in the history of the show, which is built by Oceanco.

Key buyers and visitors will have the chance to network with some of the world’s most celebrated superyacht builders at the SYBAss Pavilion including AzimutBenetti, CRN, Fincantieri, Heesen, Mondo Marine, San Lorenzo and Trinity.

With the Dubai International Boat Show slated to attract more than 26,000 visitors, including 5,000 High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI), SYBAss Pavilion exhibitors are eager to tap into the market. Luxury yachts were recently named the most popular luxury acquisition for billionaires, according to research organisation Wealth-X, which provides intelligence on ultra-high net worth individuals.

The recent World Ultra Wealth Report, based on findings in the  Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2013, states that the Middle East’s billionaires – with a combined net worth of USD354 billion – hold a higher percentage of total wealth than in any other region in the world. Forty percent of the Middle East’s Ultra High Net Worth wealth is held by the region’s 157 billionaires, compared to 28% in Europe, 22% in North America and 18% in Asia, according to the report.

Property consultant Knight Frank predicts that the number of US dollar billionaires in the Middle East will grow by 45% over the next decade with the HNWI population (individuals having net assets over USD30 million) in the region growing by 58% in 2022. The report also forecasts that the UAE HNWI population will grow by 53% in 2022.

“The Dubai International Boat Show has anchored the UAE as the key market for companies to showcase their dynamic superyacht products and services to leisure marine enthusiasts and HNWIs in the Middle East who value high standards of craftsmanship in their luxury purchases. Featuring the most advanced yachting design and technology from exhibitors and companies around the world, the SYBAss Pavilion is set to achieve new standards and inspire yacht enthusiasts of all backgrounds,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of Dubai International Boat Show.

Demonstrating the far-reaching demand for superyachts as well as leisure marine craft and services, the Dubai International Boat Show is expected to draw visitors from more than 70 countries, and will host 840 exhibitors and brands from 50 countries, with an expected 35% growth in US companies confirming floor space this year.

World-renowned superyacht manufacturer Lurssen returns to the show for the 10th year and is among the makers of the world’s largest yachts, including the 180-metre mega yacht Azzam, which was delivered in October 2013.

In addition to being the largest yacht in the world, with a length of 180 metres, and with a top speed of 30 knots, motor yacht Azzam adds another record in terms of building time: less than three years from steel cutting following one year of engineering.

“Dubai International Boat Show is among the best platforms to showcase our latest models and inform visitors about the recent developments and innovations in shipbuilding. We have a strong track record of delivering yachts to our customers in the Middle East, where we will deliver three yachts between 66 and 104 metres long in 2014. The exhibition allows us to meet the demand for our luxury superyachts within the Middle East region, with a key focus on the rapidly-growing GCC market,” said Michael Breman, Sales Director, Lurssen.

Rob Luijendijk, CEO of AMELS is pleased with the ‘superyacht life culture’ of HNWIs in the region and beyond and revealed plans for the Dutch master shipbuilders at the show: “The Middle East has always been very important for us – some of the largest superyachts are owned by ultra-high net worth individuals from this region. We’ve experienced a significant increase in enquiries this year, and at the moment our yard is busier than ever with nine new construction projects and two refits.”

“The Dubai International Boat Show is the ideal platform to reveal our scale model of the new AMELS 272 yacht to the region, the largest Amels ever with an impressive exterior design from Tim Heywood,” Luijendijk added.

Beyond the SYBAss Pavilion, Dubai International Boat Show visitors can attend this year’s show sectors: Marina Display, Outdoor Display, Luxury Supplies and Services, Equipment Supplies and Services, Dive Middle East Exhibition (DMEX), and the Supercar Promenade.

Key returning partners include Italian luxury watch brand Officine Panerai as Supporting Partner, Mercedes-Benz as Official Car Partner, and ART MARINE as Marina Display Partner. Bombardier, the world’s only manufacturer of both planes and trains, is the exclusive sponsor of the LSS indoor pavilion.

The 22nd Dubai International Boat Show at Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi is open to trade visitors and the general public from 2pm – 9.30pm daily from 4-8 March 2014.

Largest collection ever of luxury yachts on water to be showcased at 22nd Dubai International Boat Show

January 30, 2014

Written by Zuzana Bednarova

As the luxury leisure marine market surges ahead, in tandem with soaring regional consumer confidence, growing regional high net worth individual growth, as well as new yacht project builds, the Dubai International Boat Show has confirmed that it will be hosting 30 large luxury superyachts exceeding 21 metres in length. This year, an amazing number of 19 superyachts, comprising the largest yacht in the history of the event, will be showcased among more than 430 boats on land and water.

Dubai International Boat Show

The 22nd Dubai International Boat Show, the MENA’s leading luxury yacht platform, runs from 4-8 March at Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi and will feature 840 exhibiting companies and brands – a 12% increase over 2013 – reflecting the UAE’s increasing importance in the international luxury maritime market and heightened consumer confidence across the GCC. According to the McKinsey Global Private Banking Survey 2013, the total high net worth wealth in the Middle East is predicted to increase by USD3.3 trillion by 2014, positively impacting regional buying power and stimulating further growth across the sector.

Marine Industry Growth
With the International Monetary Fund (IMF) having recently increased its forecast economic growth for the GCC to 4.4% in 2014, an increase in new boat project builds will be a solid contributor to the region’s steadily growing leisure marine market.

As reported by US-based ShowBoats International Global Order Book 2014, UAE luxury yacht builders plan to build 18 superyachts – those 24 metres and longer – exceeding 850 metres in total. The definitive guide to the world’s luxury superyacht industry also ranked the UAE ninth among the most productive manufacturers of superyachts.

Erwin Bamps, COO of Gulfcraft, the UAE-based manufacturer of boats and yachts and the world’s top 10 superyacht shipyard said:
“More than simply a great place for yacht enthusiasts to visit, there is a vision for the UAE’s superyacht building industry that it will, slowly but surely, increase its output until it is one of the very top manufacturing bases for luxury yachts anywhere in the world. At this point, the UAE’s shipbuilding growth appears really unstoppable.”

With the local and regional luxury yacht sector gaining momentum, Gregor Stinner, CEO of ART MARINE, the Middle East’s largest and most recognised ‘360 degree Regional Leisure Yachting Enterprise’, emphasised the industry must capitalise on its recovery.

“Now is the time for leisure boating companies to show their colours, as we see an upswing in the market and a resurgence of quality buyers looking to purchase boats upwards of 40 metres and the new boat market increasing particularly swiftly,” said Stinner. “We expect to capture at least 10-15% of the market this year and the Dubai International Boat Show is the region’s premier platform to develop business opportunities for business – it remains the most important event on the yearly calendar.”

Strong International Participation
More than 50 countries are represented by Dubai International Boat Show exhibitors this year, as well as four dedicated country pavilions from Australia, Italy, USA and Turkey, with the USA confirming an impressive 35% increase in companies, highlighting global interest and investment in the lucrative Middle East market.

The show is also expected to draw more than 26,000 visitors from over 70 different countries, including 5,000 VIPs and key buyers. Regional royalty and top buyers from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia and the UAE will join the thousands of visitors from Africa, Asia and China while strong visitor footfall from Europe and America is also expected. Dubai International Boat Show organisers believe the participation highlights the resilience of the region’s maritime industry.

“The Middle East’s association with the world’s most luxurious superyachts positions the Dubai International Boat Show as the leading showcase for the industry within one of the most significant global markets,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organiser of Dubai International Boat Show.

“The show continues to be the region’s largest and most preferred platform for sales, knowledge exchange, networking and trade. The GCC leisure boating market is well and truly back on track in the wake of the global recession, thanks to the region having established itself as a boat manufacturing hub, increasing leisure marine tourism and growing interest from key buyers in the GCC as well as emerging markets such as Africa, China and India while new exhibitors and trade visitors continue to flock to Dubai.”

New to this year’s show is the On Water VIP Experience, a high-end on-board superyacht catering service for VIP guests. Exclusive parties and networking events will be held throughout the show to facilitate relationship-building for regional and international buyers and exhibitors.

In addition, Dubai International Boat Show TV (DIBS TV) – a network of in-venue screens designed to create a dynamic and flexible means of broadcasting information and promotional messages to stakeholders and enrich the overall visitor experience – debuts this year. DIBS TV will serve as a principle broadcast medium for the show’s organisers and exhibitors to feature breaking show news, highlights and innovations daily from the exhibition floor and marina.

Show features
Show sectors for this year include The Superyacht Experience, Marina Display, Outdoor Display, Luxury Supplies and Services (LSS), Equipment Supplies and Services (ESS), Dive Middle East Exhibition (DMEX) and Supercar Promenade.

The purpose-built Marina Display area – the show’s crown jewel – will once again provide a stunning backdrop of the world’s finest superyachts and pleasure crafts for a wide array of regional and international premieres. As highlighted earlier, one of the world’s top 50 largest superyachts top this year’s attractions and is the biggest boat to appear at Dubai International Boat Show in the history of the event.

Other boats on display include Gulf Craft’s 41-metre superyacht Majesty 135, Sunseeker’s 24-metre sport yacht, a regional first, as well as the FARR-designed powerboat known as P38, being launched by Premier Composite Technologies.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to network with some of the world’s most celebrated Superyacht builders including AMELS, AzimutBenetti, CRN, Fincantieri, Heesen, Lurssen, Mondo Marine, Oceanco, San Lorenzo and Trinity. The Superyacht Experience, which falls under the umbrella of the prestigious Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), has 10 members confirmed to date.

The ‘UAE Inspired’ Pavilion reinforces Dubai’s position as the home of the Middle East marine construction and manufacturing knowledge, while the presence of the Heritage Village offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the UAE’s rich maritime history and diverse culture.

The Supercar Promenade returns for a fourth year running, with a dazzling array of world-class marques showcasing the fastest, newest and most innovative vehicles from powerhouse high-end motoring manufacturers such as McLaren, Bentley and Mercedes, and modified automobile specialists.

On 5 March, the Gulf Boating Conference will offer the perfect platform for global experts and industry authorities, as well as boating enthusiasts, to address the latest trends, technologies, plans and regulations affecting the marine leisure sector in Dubai and beyond.

Among the prestigious key sponsors welcomed back to the show are luxury watch brand Officine Panerai as a Supporting Sponsor, Mercedes Benz as the Official Car Partner and ART MARINE as Official Marina Display Partner. Bombardier, the world’s only manufacturer of planes and trains, is the exclusive sponsor of the LSS indoor pavilion.

With exciting Visit-and-Win promotions – including 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil semi-final and final tickets –up for grabs, the 22nd Dubai International Boat Show at Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi is open to trade visitors and the general public from 2pm – 9.30pm daily from 4-8 March, 2014.

Features include Barcelona profiles, fashion, food, destinations, real estate, art and, of course, yachting. The magazine is planned biennially.

To further celebrate the magazine, Marina Port Vell held an official launch party in Barcelona on 14 October 2013.

Marina Port Vell’s Annual Monaco Yacht Show Press Reception

Since 2011, Marina Port Vell has held its Annual Press Reception at the Monaco Yacht Show. It’s a particular way of acknowledging the tremendous support of the global yachting and lifestyle media, those who tell the story of the marina’s transformation to an international audience. With some 65 journalists attending, this year’s event—held at the Yacht Club de Monaco—was cited by many as being their predominantly favorite press outing. Marina Port Vell looks forward to welcoming media to Barcelona next year to experience in person what the team is so excited about. At the conclusion of formal remarks, guests remained for an hour or more for luncheon, enjoyed the opportunity to dine on fine cuisine, and to meet and greet each other and the Marina Port Vell and Salamanca Group team.

Marina Port Vell’s Yacht Club de Monaco Library Meetings

With the serious business of discussing home port berths at Marina Port Vell and introducing Superyacht Barcelona, the Yacht Club de Monaco’s private library seemed the most apt venue available at the Monaco Show. Alternating between closed door negotiations and open door hospitality, Marina Port Vell spent many hours enjoying the hospitality of the Yacht Club.

BAHAMAS YACHT HOLIDAYS

Known as Ernest Hemingway’s favourite escape, BIMINI yacht charter offers numerous cays, fascinating history, miles of pristine beaches as well as the ‘Bimini Road’, which some believe is a remnant of the legendary Lost City of Atlantis. THE BERRY ISLANDS, with the majority of them being uninhabited, provide yacht charterers with championship sport fishing, a cluster of 30 cays as well as exceptional golf courses. Here you could spend a whole day without seeing a single soul.

In addition to enjoying the warm breeze and panoramic beauty of this sailing paradise, THE ABACOS charter vacation offers quaint colonial town on Green Turtle and Elbow Cays, championship golf courses on Treasure Cay as well as plenty of restaurants and bars. The coastlines are scalloped with bays, coves and protected harbours.

British Loyalists, who settled here in the 1700s influenced the majority of the architecture. The islands continue to attract visitors with tropical flair.
