September 23, 2013

Trinity Yachts is delighted to announce that after successful sea trials, its motor yacht Finish Line (hull T-058) has been handed over to her new Owner. Luxury yacht Finish Line is a custom designed 36,7-metre (120′) raised pilothouse superyacht, with aluminium hull as well as superstructure. Set to be displayed at the upcoming Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show, she represents the proud realization of her American owner, one who is hopeful that the design and performance of this spectacular vessel will serve as an inspiration to other American yachtsmen to build in the United States.

With unusual speed for her size, Finish Line yacht’s sleek naval architecture and styling enable her to run in excess of 23 knots with a range over 3,600 nautical miles. With her normal cruising grounds being the East Coast of the United States as well as the Bahamas, the yacht’s draft has been specifically designed to be 5’6” (1.7m) in half-load condition. The shallow draft also enables her owner—a race car enthusiast— to access specific ports like Daytona Beach, Florida.

Arrangements below decks are divided into five watertight compartments. Owners and guest accommodations consist of a full-beam owner’s cabin and three guest staterooms. The owner’s cabin features a king size berth with His and Hers ensuite bathrooms and a large walk-in closet. All guest cabins have private full baths with two cabins having queen size berths and one cabin having two twin berths. Forward of the watertight bulkhead separating guest and crew areas will be three crew cabins and three full baths for a crew of five.

Main deck arrangements consist of an air conditioned exterior aft deck with full wet bar, dining table and seating for eight. The main salon—which is accessed through sliding glass doors—also features a full wet bar, entertainment center, L-shaped custom sofas and lounge chairs. The open formal dining is forward of the main salon and gives the owners and their guests full benefit of the views from the large salon windows and aft glass doors.

There is a powder room on the port side and formal entrance for the owner and guests to starboard. The galley occupies the forward area of the main deck and is designed for entertaining and informal dining for up to eight. This arrangement allows for large windows port and starboard, an island for prepping and serving as well as bar stools for “foodies” who enjoy watching the chef prepare meals as much as the actual dining experience.

The sun deck layout features a full helm station on the starboard side. Forward access is on centerline from the pilothouse. The flybridge deck is equipped with a full wet bar and settees with easy chairs and tables for alfresco dining. Aft on the sun deck is a davit to handle the tender and two jet skis. A set of stairs leads down to the exterior aft deck which also features easy access by two sets of stairs to the swim platform.

Power and ships systems are state-of-the-art. The lazarette and engine room are accessed through a watertight door in the transom as well as from the main deck port-side when at sea. The engine room houses two MTU 16v2000 main engines rated at 2,600 hp each, driving 6-bladed propellers via 6” propeller shafts and ZF 3370 gearboxes. A 100 hp Arcturus TRAC bow thruster assists the captain when handling the yacht in tight quarters and electrical power is supplied by two Kohler 80 kW generator sets.

To ensure the owner and guests remain comfortable while aboard, there will be 24 tons of air conditioning with fresh air makeup, two water makers of 1,400 gallon per day capacity each and active fin stabilization with ‘at rest’ capability to enhance the stability of the yacht when at sea.

“FINISH LINE has been a deeply gratifying build for us,” says John Dane, Trinity Yachts President. “Her owner, truly an American patriot, built the yacht here in the U.S. both to realize the benefits of American craftsmen—whose skills are unsurpassed—and to create jobs. Over the life of the yacht, additional skilled laborer jobs will be created and will perpetuate the economic value that all yachts bring local communities,” he concludes.

Video of Motor Yacht Glaze approaching Venice in Italy

September 18, 2013

This time-lapse video was taken as motor yacht Glaze was entering the port of Venice in Italy earlier this month. Superyacht GLAZE (ex Lady Michelle) is an elegant Trinity Yachts built luxury vessel, boasting open plan layout with large exterior entertainment and relaxation areas. She was refitted in 2010 by Derecktor shipyard in Florida.

Some of the highlights aboard Glaze include her vast sundeck, first-class sky lounge, deluxe master suite, spacious and comfortable guest accommodation and large amount of space throughout the entire yacht.

Her interior can be described as light and airy, with an open plan main saloon and dining area. The aft section is dedicated to comfortable seating and full entertainment systems and forward of the saloon is a large formal dining table. Aft to starboard there is also a guest desk with a laptop computer and internet access. A small wet bar is located opposite to port.

Accommodation on board Trinity yacht Glaze is provided to 12 guests, in a full-beam master suite situated on the main deck, a VIP stateroom located starboard aft on the lower deck, two double guest staterooms and a twin stateroom. All four guest staterooms are of equal size, with the only difference being, that the VIP features a sit bath/shower. More about Superyacht GLAZE

RMK Marine announces delivery of newly refitted motor yacht KEYLA

June 25, 2013

RMK Marine, part of the Koç Group Companies, is delighted to announce the delivery of the 45-metre motor yacht Keyla (ex Chevy Toy, Stanley Z). Superyacht Keyla has undergone an extensive refit, that lasted more than a year and a half.

43m Trinity Yacht Keyla refitted by RMK Marine and Hot Lab

Re-launch of the 43m Trinity Yacht Keyla (ex Chevy Toy, Stanley Z) refitted by RMK Marine and Hot Lab

Luxury yacht Keyla is a 45,3 metre luxury vessel, constructed by Trinity Yachts, with an aluminium semi-displacement hull and superstructure, and two MTU/DDC 16V2000 engines, 3,600HP (2,685 kW). RMK Marine (Superyacht builder based in Turkey) and the Hot Lab – Yacht&Design studio in Milan (Italy) worked together to refit the yacht after a series of inputs from the Owner and his family, who are enthusiasts of photography, art and fossil collecting.

After devising various solutions, the Owner decided on a major refit. Revamping the interior for the new Owner’s lifestyle and needs meant that substantial stylistic changes has been introduced as well as several technical updates involving equipments.

A 6.5-foot hull extension (2 metres) added space to create larger swimming platform , without adversely affecting Keyla’s original lines. The electrical systems were comprehensively updated with the installation of new generators compatible with both the standard European 220 V and the American 110 V. Other systems like the hydraulics were completely replaced. The complete system upgrade has left the yacht more akin to a newly built vessel. The only untouched system after the refit was the air conditioning.

The Owner’s first request was to improve the crew and service area. Laundry area has been resized to fit additional cabins in the crew quarters. This enables MY Keyla to count on additional number of crew members. The Captain’s cabin – close to the bridge, brings the total number of berths for the crew to 8+1.

Hot Lab and RMK Marine re-designed the galley, main saloon, upper lounge, sundeck and the bridge. The galley was not altered in terms of layout, but important upgradings were made to equipment. The helm station was deeply modified, but no changes were made to the original systems or electronics.

The main deck – although unmodified in the general plans – has undergone “minor changes” in its layout: the dining area has been moved to the stern to combine the effects of “al-fresco” dining experience while the lounge area has been carried towards the bow, closer to the 60” TV screen.

The lower deck is the guest deck, with a total of 8 berths in four cabins, including two VIP cabins and two twin cabins with two further Pullman beds, all with en suite bathrooms and large walk-in wardrobes as requested by the Owner.

The upper deck has a new design as requested by the Owner’s family. It has been made into a secluded inside area, especially for children. An example of this new use should be the “toy box” area on the starboard side which has been extended, making it one of the most distinctive design features. There are also two large L- shaped sofas placed to the aft port and starboard corner and in front of a “served” open bar and 65” TV screen.

Outside a new outstanding dining area has been created with a huge round 14-person table, plus two coffee tables that can be ingeniously transformed into dining tables for 4 people each. This means that 20 people or more can be seated for sociable dinners. To provide guests with full entertainment, a 50” TV screen was added to this social area. The boat has been designed with the well-being of the owner and his guests in mind.

RMK Marine and Hot Lab modified the layout of the Sun deck, creating new areas and offering a visually exciting journey on this deck. A day toilet and a small technical area have been added by using previously unused facilities. The bar faces the bow, while the stern area can be enjoyed in different ways: as a lounging and sunbathing area during the day and as a comfortable dining at night. The area is equipped with a table for eight people for informal lunches, with a bimini-top cover over the whole area from the lounge bar to the spa pool in the forward. This deck has also been modernised with all-teak flooring. The sunbathing area has been enlarged so that after the refit has a total area of 18 m2.

All the exteriors on all the decks have been refitted with contemporary furniture with rounded corners and varnished in ice white, with inserts in unfinished “open pore” teak that has been specially treated to make it highly resistant to liquids. Custom built tables have been added on all decks.

Special attention was paid to the lighting system, which now features indirect LED lights throughout the yacht. Having new LED technology was one of the Owner’s specific requests, even before any other material and surface elements were decided on. Blue rosewood with gold veins was chosen for the Owner’s cabin, while SilverWave was used to embellish the main deck, lobby area and upper deck – due its characteristic “fossil tree trunk” veins, echoing one of the passions of the Owner’s family.

The new interior decoration features a refined “underwater” theme developed thanks to the collaboration with the leading company Foglizzo. Laser designed jellyfishes gently decorate nabuck leather surfaces on the main and upper deck. The owner, who was very pro-active in developing the interior design, expressly asked for simple shapes that would be safe for children – “minimal” (but not minimalist!) – with rounded corners and a contemporary twist.

The materials and colours of the interiors reflect the style of the exteriors with the extensive use of various shades of white and different types of wood: white-treated Tanganyika frisé and natural mirror-varnished Makassar (open pore only for the ceilings). The owner asked for six different kinds of white for the marbles, white smooth natural leather, kinds of mother-of-pearl for the bathroom decor and “natural silver leaf”.

Hot Lab and RMK Marine – as for audio/video system – worked completely to modernise the domotic controls, in each cabin. Keyla features state of the art Crestron Systems with remote Ipads control, throughout the boat. Ipads enables to control- in addition to the entertainment – also curtains, window blinds and lights.

Keyla yacht’s hull color has been changed, and now she boasts an elegant Awlgrip Kingston Grey colour, which help recognize her at first glance.

Flurry of orders for Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS)

June 24, 2013

After the recent Management Buy-Out at Ocean Yacht Systems, the new owners are pleased with the responses they have had within the industry as well as the recent orders received.

Perini Navi sailing yacht Seahawk (Hull C.2193) featuring thrusters by Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS)

Perini Navi sailing yacht Seahawk (Hull C.2193) featuring thrusters by Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS)

There has been little rest since the announcement in May, with the Directors ensuring the changes to the ownership do not impact with the daily running, delivery dates and customer interaction.

OYS has been working on the recent flurry of orders which includes the commissioning of the new RDE-0650 model, the 90kw/120hp swing deploying thruster is the first in a series be supplied to the 60m Perini Navi mega yacht Seahawk (hull C.2193). Further to this, they have also been awarded a contract to supply units for the new 70m superyacht Sybaris (Hull C.2227), currently in build, totalling three RDE (Rim Driven Electric) thrusters to Perini Navi in a two year period.

Closer to home, during 2011/12 OYS worked on two significant contracts with Pendennis Shipyard. This relationship has strengthened with a new order recently received for a thruster on a classic motor yacht that is currently undergoing a major re-build at their Falmouth base.

Another local project for OYS is to supply a vertical retracting custom lightweight thruster for the 78ft carbon performance catamaran yacht APC 78 underway at Green Marine. OYS has been brought to meet the specific thruster requirements of the project such as weight, size, and space available. This project is due for launch in 2014 and is weight critical.

Across the water, OYS have also received another order for a fixed tunnel electric 200hp unit for a new 59m Motor Yacht Hull T-062 project underway at Trinity Yachts, USA. This continues on from the very successful commissioning of the Trinity Yachts 74m earlier this year.

The future is looking positive for the UK based company, with these latest orders across their divisions as well as their on-going service work. All OYS products are custom designed, engineered and manufactured at their headquarters in Christchurch, UK.

In addition to other positive industry dynamics, management and Littlejohn view the growth opportunities in the Gulf Coast as historic in proportion. Felix S. Sabates Jr. will step down as Chairman to become an advisor and consultant to the new organization.

American superyacht industry get together to discuss the state of the market

May 03, 2013

May 14th in Nevada will see the key players of the American superyacht industry meet to talk about the current state of the market.

Todd Beechey

Todd Beechey

The American Superyacht Forum has proved a hotbed of industry activity in previous years and this year, it’s set to do so again. A major talking point of the forum will be ongoing positive momentum as the industry continues to regain an even keel and maintain its balance in the wake of the GFC.

One of the key factors to that balance is opening up new avenues of revenue for the industry. Todd Beechey, president of OceanScape Yachts, will sit on a panel at the Forum which will discuss how to do that.

“The industry often has a slanted focus toward the UHNWI. To us, there is a big market that’s being forgotten about. The people who can and do take beautiful vacations each year, and who can afford to take those vacations onboard a yacht, but have not yet been reached by the industry.”

One of the things Beechey thinks needs to change, for this market to become a realistic option, is an earning model that benefits everyone in the industry, not just those involved in the very biggest of yachts. When every thing from the broker’s fee, to the crew’s tips is based on percentage, what incentive is there for industry members to focus on developing the smaller end of the market? And that’s exactly where he believes industry growth will be driven from – the bottom, up.

“Does a four person crew on a $100,000 a week charter yacht work harder than a four person crew on a $50,000? Perhaps not. So why should they earn so much more in tips?”  Asks Beechey.

So how does the industry draw in this new market and start driving that smaller end, high volume growth? It’s a topic that Beechey is passionate about and one which he’ll discuss in depth at the Forum. A new form of marketing is one – working through new channels to find a different customer base – and making the industry a little more approachable, more accessible and less intimidating to the new customer is another. Ways of implementing both of which will be discussed at the forum.

Todd Beechey would welcome discussions on this topic and invites anyone interested to contact him prior to, or at the forum to talk about this new demographic to the superyacht industry.

Yacht Makers heading to Sanya for Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013

March 26, 2013

Boats as well as CEOs from shipyards across the world are coming to the next 2013 edition of Hainan Rendez-Vous, the yacht show that attracts thousands of China’s top business elites to the fabulous shores of Sanya each year. Set to run from March 30th to April 2nd, this year’s Rendez-Vous will delight visitors with an amazing fleet of spectacular ships, among them seven superyachts in the 30-50-metre range. Futhermore, the rich program of social events at the event is sure to keep networking as well as celebrations running at high intensity throughout the four-day show.

Almost all yacht brands that exhibited at last year’s Hainan Rendez-Vous will be exhibiting at the 2013 edition, many of them occupying additional berths and larger exhibition booths. Returning visitors will recognize familiar faces from Lürssen, Feadship, Heesen Yachts, Blohm+Voss, Royal Huisman, Trinity, Oceanco, Brunswick, Jeanneau, Beneteau Group, AzimutBenetti, Kingship, Sanlorenzo, Marquis, Sunseeker China, Princess Yachts, Sunbird, Heysea and others.

Due to the strong demand from these returning shipyards, several yacht builders who were hoping to exhibit at Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 unfortunately were unable to reserve a space. New names that did manage to secure exhibition booths for this year’s show include German megayacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen, and the Italian shipyards Tecnomar and Filippetti.

The 130-boat fleet at Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 will fill the show marina to maximum capacity, and will include the following majestic superyachts:
– 50-metre aluminum tri-deck motor yacht Sapphire, built by US shipyard Trinity
– 42-metre yacht Star by Taiwanese shipyard Kingship that, with her blue-hull and classic design, held crowds enchanted at last year’s Rendez-Vous
– 45-metre superyacht Blue Sky from Feadship; fitted with a helicopter pad and mahjong room, this boat became the first European-built superyacht sold to a mainland China buyer, the sale taking place at last year’s Hainan Rendez-Vous
– 34-metre luxury yacht Aycer 34 by Dubai shipyard Sayer Yachts
– 32-metre fibreglass yacht Next by Custom Line, a division of Chinese-Italian shipyard Ferretti
– 28-metre superyacht Nica II by Benetti

The thrill of catamarans sailing will also be on full display at Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013. Outstanding cats at the boat show will include the 70 Feng yacht, a 21-metre vessel with stunning Asian-inspired design by Sunreef, and the Leopard 44, named by Cruising World as the Best Import Boat and Best Multi-Hull Boat of 2012.

Underscoring the growing importance of Hainan Rendez-Vous in the global yacht show circuit, the yacht brands Marquis, Azimut, Beneteau and Jeanneau as well as Leopard Catamaran will all be unveiling new vessels for either the Asian or world market at the show.

Show organisers say that yacht exhibitors are working harder this year to win the favor of China’s wealthy elites by organising more parties and special events. Business jet and lifestyle exhibitors at Hainan Rendez-Vous will also be holding several events onboard the big ships of the yacht show.

Sea trials will be taking prospective yacht buyers out over the waters continuously, with at least ten yacht brands offering test cruises this year.

Other attractions for show guests will include, of course, the Hainan Rendez-Vous Supercar Showcase, this year headlined by the new McLaren P1. The Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 Lifestyle Collection will include a Chopard ring with rare 31.32-carat chameleon diamond, among other beautiful objects on display.

This year’s Art in Hainan exhibition will explore the concept of the garden through the works of several distinguished contemporary artists. Gala dinners, cocktail hours, seminars, wine and caviar tastings, after-dark parties and other events will provide further opportunities for guest to enjoy their time with one another, experience lifestyle brands and interact with show exhibitors and sponsors.

“We’re doing everything we can to make this year’s Hainan Rendez-Vous the most successful edition yet for our sponsors and exhibitors,” says Diana Jaquier, Managing Director of China Rendez-Vous Ltd. “We invested more in the domestic marketing campaign for this year, and significant numbers of new VIP guests will be coming as a result. Thanks to our partners, we have a superb show waiting for them.”

Delphine Lignieres, show founder and CEO of China Rendez-Vous Ltd, added: “We are profoundly grateful for the continued loyal support of our sponsors and exhibitors. We’re now completely focused on making this event smooth and successful for them.”
