The new 124′ Ocean Cruiser Yacht concept represents Bury Design‘s interpretation of a large, modern ocean cruiser, making use of their extensive experience in superyacht design, including with Wally Yachts (Monaco) and Tripp Design (USA). The 124’ Sailing Yacht is a beautiful combination of a well found, deep ocean cruising yacht with a Mediterranean layabout style. Her hull boasts an easily driven, modern shape with a fine entry and flat run aft, promising good speed potential, as confirmed by the VPP study.

The yacht features a vertical lifting bulb keel and is of advanced composite construction, utilising aramid, carbon and glass fibres in epoxy over PVC foam cores. The mast is slightly fractional carbon with swept spreaders. With non-overlapping headsails and a generous mainsail she will prove both swift and easy to handle under sail.

On deck there is a central cockpit with twin settees – one for casual lounging and one for more formal setting. Aft of this is the helm area and another comfortable lounge, split to allow access to the aft cockpit. Access to the side deck is through a gate in the coaming forward of the helm. The mainsheet traveller is on an arch, which also provides support for a full awning stretching forward and stowing in the deckhouse forward of the main companionway.

With no mainsheet on the deck and a fully closable cockpit, there is a sense of security and containment that will allow children to be easily and safely accommodated. All working sail sheets and halyards are on captive reel winches, hidden in the coamings. When racing the 124′ luxury yacht by Bury Design, the asymmetric spinnaker’s sheets and halyards are run from the drum winches, located aft and at the base of the mast respectively.

The main companionway leads forward to the main saloon. This expansive area features a large dining area to starboard and an informal lounge and navigation area to port. Under this lies the engine room, featuring full headroom and access through a door to starboard of the keel trunk. Further forward is a lower lounge to port and a convertible children’s play area/library/fourth guest cabin to starboard. Forward of this is the galley, crew mess and crew cabins for 6 crew, each with ensuites.

Travelling aft of the main saloon are the guest cabins, left and right – a double cabin to the port and twin to starboard, both with attached bathrooms. Further aft lies the owners cabin featuring a large ensuite with a walk in wardrobe. A feature of this cabin is the raised area under the aft glass with a desk and lounge as well as steps up to the aft cockpit.

Setting the new 124′ Ocean Cruiser sloop apart from the norm is the implementation of a full diesel-electric propulsion system based on Siemens-developed technologies. This allow for a flexible layout of the machinery areas and also the minimisation of transmitted vibration and noise. Using the onboard battery bank as the energy source it is possible to motor, for limited distances, in complete silence, with this system.
