With just under a month to go until the next Antigua Sailing Week, the organisers of this popular Caribbean event would like to remind some key dates and present some of the new things, planned during the 2013 event.

ASW

At Antigua Sailing Week ‘Sailing Comes First’ and this year is no exception. The racing takes place from Sunday 28th April to Friday May 3rd, with one days break for Lay Day.

If heading up island to join in Antigua Sailing Week, there is always the option of entering  the Guadeloupe to Antigua Race which takes place on Friday 26th April. A party the night before in Deshaies will ensure one gets to enjoy some famous French hospitality before the beautiful sail over to Antigua. The Guadeloupe to Antigua Race record has been held by the 43m sailing yacht Senso One (ex Mari-Cha IV) since 2004.

Then on Saturday 27th April there is the option to take part in the Yachting World Round Antigua Race, giving a possibility to enjoy some stiff competition, with using the race as a practice race in readiness for the week ahead, and challenge the existing elapsed time record held by the Farr-designed 115-foot charter yacht Sojana.

THE NONSUCHBAY RS ELITE CHALLENGE – WEDNESDAY 1ST MAY, 2013

An invitational racing event will be held as part of the Lay Day party at Pigeon Beach. Everyone is welcome to watch the exciting racing from the beach and to participate in other beach activities which will take place throughout the afternoon and into the evening. The day’s activities will kick off at midday and racing will start at 1 pm. Eight skippers and their teams will compete to win a week’s stay at Nonsuch Bay Resort for two people.

PARTY, PARTY…………………

Sailing comes first of course, but that means, once the sailing is done, the parties kick in. This year is no exception and there will be a fun line up this year.

The post race Daily Prize Givings’ will be once again held on the lawn at the Antigua Yacht Club following each day’s racing. Cold beers, rum punch, cold Champagne and a full bar will be ready each afternoon along with light bites (and of course a full menu inside Cloggy’s for the truly ravenous).

The big parties will take place as follows:

Saturday 27th April- in Nelson’s Dockyard – The Yachting World Round Antigua Race Awards Party & Antigua Sailing Week Welcome Party, followed by the After Party at Abracadabra.
Sunday 28th April- in Nelson’s Dockyard – The Sunday Sunset Pary
Monday 29th April- at Cloggy’s – Disco Night
