Building on their strong reputation as a manufacturer of world-class superyachts, Yachting Developments has diversified to provide yachts with a full service offering. This comprises refit work, survey work and haul outs, interior fittings, and naturally, new build work.

After taking the step to downsize the yard staff numbers in early 2013, due to a lull in new build orders, the yard is still employing a skilled team, and has put the last 18 months to good use to implement leaner, more efficient and cost effective work methods. The team has been hard at work on a wide range of projects, including several yacht refits and commercial and residential projects.

“We want to send the message that we are very much open for business, and offer skilled superyacht-quality labour across all disciplines,” said Ian Cook, Managing Director of Yachting Developments. “Our team is able to serve all areas of the marine sector, whether new build, refit, or interior work, and no job is too small or big.”

Having undertaken numerous new build and refit projects, including their most recent launch 30.5m S/Y CAT Quintessential, and the high profile and award-winning refit of the J Class superyacht Endeavour, Yachting Developments capabilities as a new build and refit yard are internationally respected.

With a 24000sqm yard facility that includes 6500sqm fully equipped sheds and water access in Auckland’s Hobsonville, Yachting Developments is able to service yachts of up to 60 metres. The yard welcomes all inquiries for refit and service work, for both small and large projects, and can also service yachts on location. For added convenience the shipyard is soon to open a central office in Auckland’s Westhaven marina to facilitate easy drop offs and to enable the undertaking of small work jobs from a well-positioned central location.

Recent large yacht projects undertaken by the yard include a major twelve-month refit on the Swan 90 superyacht Spirit for a Singapore-based owner. The yacht underwent a full interior and exterior overhaul, together with a full new itinerary of sails. Prior to the Spirit refit, the yard completed a refit on the Maxi 100 superyacht Perpetual Loyal (ex Rambler), which required significant work following her sale after her capisize and dismasting in the 2011 Fastnet. The yard also lent their extensive knowledge in classic yachts to undertake a full refit and restoration on the iconic maxi yacht Steinlager 2, which was sailed to victory in the 1989/1990 Whitbread Race by the late Sir Peter Blake.

The Yachting Developments order book is not limited to the marine sector, and having worked on high-profile projects such as Auckland’s new ASB building, the yard is also working on several residential and commercial projects thanks to demand for their expertise in carbon construction, and the skillsets of their core team. As well as working on a large scale private development north of Auckland, the team is currently working on The Boat House floating barge structure situated in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour.
