A unique international agreement between Malta’s Birgu and St Tropez

St Tropez and Malta‘s Birgu signed a historic international agreement on the same weekend of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, where yachts set sail from Camper & Nicholon MarinasGrand Harbour Marina on a 606 nautical mile race.

This agreement was formed as a direct result of the Trophee Bailli du Suffren, a race from St Tropez to Malta, finishing at Grand Harbour Marina and considered by many as the Mediterranean’s most beautiful classic sailing yacht race.

For two centuries both ports, St Tropez and Birgu have held a close partnership. However at the end of October 2013, both made the decision to officially join forces in promoting sustainable tourism, particularly in the maritime sector.

The signing ceremony took place in the Auberge de France in Malta, the seat of the Birgu Local Council. Where Ben Stuart, General Manager of Grand Harbour Marina joined many notable figures from Birgu and St Tropez such as the French Ambassador to Malta, Dr. Michael Vandepoorter and St Tropez Deputy Mayor Claude Berard, to name a few.
