Columbus Yachts have two luxury motor yachts currently in build at the Palumbo shipyard in Italy, one of which is due to be launched this year. The first is a 177 foot displacement motor yacht which is due for launch in 2010. The 177 Columbus Superyacht is nearing completion at the Palumbo yard and is currently for sale. The second is a Columbu 199 foot motor yacht which is scheduled to be launched later in 2012.

The interiors of the Columbus 177 have been designed by Spadolini Design Studios:

“Guests, owner and common guests areas cover about 350 m2 and are furnished with the highest quality Italian marbles (Marmo Calacatta Oro), woods (Rovere and Noce Canaletto) and Italian leather and drapery.”

The yacht has been constructed with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. The aluminium is lightweight aluminium for the superstructure to aid in optimum stability. She is powered by twin MTU engines likely to push her to around 18.5 knots. The model “engines and type are MTU 16V 4000 M60 developing 1760kW at 1800 rpm, each one coupled to the shaft line through a ZF reduction gear.”

The Columbus 177 is a luxury yacht which length over all is 53.7 meters and her maximum Beam is 10.2 meters. The hull is made of steel and superstructures of light alloy to shorten weight and to get a low ZG granting high stability standards. The hull is round displacement type with bulge and a transom stern.

Propulsion power is provided by two diesel Engines type MTU 16V 4000 M60 developing 1760kW at 1800 rpm, each one coupled to the shaft line through a ZF reduction gear. The propulsion is delivered by two fixed pitch propellers with five blades which thrust assures 18.5 knots as maximum continuous speed.

The Yacht will be equipped with a twin spade high lift rudder plant, and low speed steering will be assisted by a bow thruster. The comfort during navigation is granted by four stabilizers fins to provide active roll reduction both in underway and “at anchor” condition. The electric power required for ship service will be provided by two Caterpillar C9 diesel generator (2×175 kW) and a Caterpillar C4.4 diesel generator (80 kW).
