In order to support this summer’s two major UK J Class events by offering a dedicated paramedic on the water for all race days, the International SOS company MedAire has collaborated with the J Class Association.

Although the J Class yachts are sailed by experienced crew, there is always the risk of a sail handling accident or equipment failure. Even though there are trained first aid crew on every one of the J Class yachts, this arrangement is seen to be a great benefit to the Class. MedAire will supply a highly trained professional paramedic to each of the regattas as an “on the water” first response for any emergency.

“This is a huge step forward for our race management team,” stated David Pitman, organiser of the J Class regattas in the UK. “Whilst we all hope that their services are not required, both the RCYC and the RSYC are supportive of this additional service to race crew.”

Steven Bates, General Manager Luxury Yachts for MedAire stated: “For more than 25 years, MedAire has ensured crew and guests receive the best care possible, whether at sea or ashore. Our goal is to ensure crew and guests feel safe and secure while onboard. That’s why we are happy to support this great event.”

MedAire have built the yachting industry’s largest network of medical and safety professionals around the world, available to assist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and this J Class event is an ideal showcase for it.

As the J Class yachts do not race with lifelines, each yacht has a dedicated support craft following close by. The paramedic will be on board a support Rib, ready for transfer to any emergency. He will also benefit from viewing one of the best yachting regattas in the world, being up close to the fleet of J Class yachts.

MedAire already supply emergency equipment to a number of the J Class yachts and this support service is ongoing. They have bases in most continents and supply a wide range of services to yachtsmen from emergency kits to training and consultation.
