The large Lurssen built superyacht ‘Pacific’ is imminently to be launched in Vegesack, Germany. Superyacht Pacific is a 85 metre (278 ft) Lurssen motor yacht with exterior design work by German Frers and interior design by Bannenberg & Rowell. The other Lurssen yachts to have be launched this year are the 124.40 metre Crystal, the 87.20 metre Phoenix 2 and the 60 metre Solemates.

2010 is a very important year for new build luxury yacht launches and yacht PACIFIC stands tall amongst the significant yacht launches of this year. At 85 m in length overall this boat is just outside the current top 50 largest private yachts in the world. Yachts of similar length include M/Y ‘Z’, Vibrant Curiosity, Sunrays, Cakewalk and Ecstasea.

PACIFIC, however, is a unique and individual private yacht for several reasons and her exterior design profile is quite traditional in many ways but also shares some contemporary themes with large modern explorer yacht designs. As compared to the Andrew Winch designed 87 m yacht Phoenix 2 – already launched this year by Lurssen – M/Y Pacific has by comparison a lower centre of gravity, a squarer and perhaps more expedition look, with less rounded or flowing edges.  German Frers, which is a long standing yacht design company based in Argentina and historically known for sailing yachts, was the experienced design office responsible for M/Y Pacific’s individual look. Often a yacht of this size can have a very tall and volumous superstructure whereas yacht PACIFIC reveals a more modest and balanced height and a good symmetry between hull topsides and the superstructure above.

This is the Lurssen superyacht Phoenix 2 also launched in 2010 makes for interesting comparison to yacht Pacific

Little more is publically known about motor yacht PACIFIC (formerly project JOSI) at this stage. She has been designed and built to be a blue water superyacht made for the ocean and she will no doubt be able to explore long distances in trying conditions if required. While not plumb, her bow is reasonably sheer and it raises to an ample height above the waterline with good flare which is ideal for challenging ocean and weather conditions.

Lurssen Yachts in Germany is one of the world’s preeminent custom private motor yacht builders and their yacht launches are varied in style and type. There is more information about the Lurssen shipyard here as well as below.
