The 56m Feadship built motor yacht Illusion has completed her summer charter season following a substantial winter refit at the Pendennis shipyard. Between June and September her spectacular new profile could be seen during 5 separate trips cruising around the glorious islands and coastline of the Mediterranean, including the Balearics, France, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica and Barcelona.

The 3-level 5m l.o.a. extension Pendennis carried out over the winter enabled the addition of a new duel purpose beach club and tender garage. These improvements extended the outdoor social areas on the Illusion yacht and, alongside neutral elegant restyling throughout and a new Bannenberg & Rowell Design owner’s area, has dramatically enhanced the cruising experience.

The client approached Pendennis about his vision for enhancing the Illusion Motoryacht early in 2009 and the work commenced in September 2009 with delivery in June 2010.  Although the refit programme was extensive the yacht was only out of commission during one winter cruising season. Detailed pre-planning alongside excellent working relationships with the client, captain, crew and naval architects, assisted in a quick and efficient re-delivery. This collaboration is ongoing as Pendennis works alongside the client to ensure the superyacht Illusion continues to perform and deliver the on-board lifestyle expected through their unique after-sales care and support programme.

Toby Allies, Sales and Marketing Director for Pendennis commented: “Pendennis thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the Client and Captain during the course of the project. Close collaboration throughout ensured that ideas could be explored and decisions made efficiently without losing sight of the delivery schedule.”

Having all key trades in house was also a key factor in an efficient and swift programme of updates. Pendennis’ ability to maintain control over the complete project throughout all stages of the refit was a key benefit in using the yard for the MY Illusion project. Pendennis approached the project with a keenness to facilitate changes, incorporating client vision throughout, adopting a flexible approach to new design challenges or emerging works. The objective was to be responsive without affecting the successful and timely re-delivery of the yacht Illusion.

Extensive works done at the Pendennis shipyard on the super yacht Illusion

Throughout the project the Captain and crew were based in Falmouth and enjoyed the broad range of facilities offered by Pendennis, as well as the diverse and relaxed lifestyle that Cornwall has to offer.

Mike Conway, Captain of the super yacht Illusion, who has stayed in most of the major cruise destinations globally, thoroughly enjoyed his time in Falmouth: “The in-house crew facilities were impressive and Pendennis went out of their way to ensure we felt at home during our stay. We were genuinely surprised by the broad range of activities on offer in Cornwall as well as the ease of access to the rest of the country. Our time in Falmouth was fantastic regarding both the professional and the ‘can do’ attitude of the shipyard as well as having all the additional support services and events for the Illusion team to benefit from.”
