The Duke of Kent was presenting Halyard with the prestigious award in recognition of its continuous dedication to innovation. Since winning its last Queen’s Award in 2006, Halyard has developed a number of significant new products to provide strategic solutions for the silencing of larger marine engines and generators. New products include a range of exhaust water separators – creating the world’s lowest cost product covering generators with exhausts from 40mm to 75mm, and the company’s patented watercooled Helmholtz resonator silencer designed in conjunction with the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton.

Matt Parker, Senior Consulting Engineer, ISVR Consulting at the University of Southampton says: “We have provided technical expertise plus research and development support to Halyard for over 10 years. From the EU funded ‘Soundboat’ project in 2003 right through to the development of the marine resonator exhaust silencer, so we are very proud to see them receive this second Queen’s Innovation Award.”

On arrival at Halyard, The Duke of Kent was greeted by Halyard’s Managing Director, James Grazebrook, before being shown examples of products manufactured across the company’s three sites. He was also given the opportunity to meet Halyard’s employees, along with partners associated with the development of the Helmholtz resonator silencer.

James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard said:” Niche specialism is the key to successful British manufacture. Like so many firms in the marine industry, we are a small and dedicated team. All of us move the business forward, and the entire team earned this award.”
