This year’s HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show will provide visitors with the chance to become acquainted with plenty of aspects of watersport, comprising testing as well as improving their skills in a large partitioned-off section of water. The event will also feature a wide range of activities on the quay and between the exhibited boats.

Expedition vessel De Pooh and mini-seminars

For many ‘future travellers’ ocean sailing is a dream. Between dream and realisation, various steps are required to make a comfortable and safe crossing. One of the first steps many sailors take is following the seminars organised by Watersportmedia and Expeditiezeilen. De Pooh is the mother ship of Expeditiezeilen and part of the Zeilen Altlantische Toertocht (Atlantic sailing tour). The vessel will be on show during the boat show, and various experts will participate in 15-minute onboard seminars on the following topics:

13.00   Long-distance vessels

14.00   Communication onboard

15.00   Meteorology and routing

16.00   Equipping long-distance yachts

17.00   Navigation, (emergency) astro, GPS, charts and pilots

18.00   Seamanship

19.00   Meet sailors, future travellers, fellow enthusiasts, writers and editors

Presentations and discussions led by Hennie ten Dam, Henk Bezemer, Klaas Jan Hoeve and Dick Huges. In between the presentations the film ‘Expeditiezeilen’ (Expedition sailing) will be shown.

Fort Beemster: Wellness & gastronomy on the quays of Luxury Island
In its centuries-old fortress, Fort Resort Beemster accommodates one of the most luxurious wellness resorts in the Netherlands. During the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show, the resort will be featured in between the yachts at Luxury Island. Here, visitors will be introduced to all the comforts of wellness, gastronomy and hospitality of Fort Resort Beemster and restaurant Poterne. There will be special wine selection tastings and wellness & beauty specialists will on hand to give relaxing massages and beauty treatments. This all makes for a highly pleasurable intermezzo on the quay for show visitors.

Unique classic ocean tug Holland at the quay
Holland is the last remaining representative of a generation of Dutch craftsmanship. Visitors to the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show will have the opportunity to admire this unique monument of Dutch shipbuilding. Built in 1951, the ocean tug made over 200 spectacular rescues. The vessel was almost lost for good until funds were raised to restore Holland to her former glory. Maritime enthusiasts will enjoy the characteristic hull, authentic pilot house, beautifully restored cabins and last-remaining ‘Werkspoor’ diesel engine, one of a limited series of ten built in the Netherlands. Having been active as a salvage vessel for many years, Holland was used as a research vessel by the Department of Waterways and Public Works. Thanks to the efforts of the Stichting Zeesleepboot Holland foundation, she then started her swansong as a reminder of early savage sailing in the Netherlands.

SUP clinics
The popularity of SUPing (stand-up paddling) is still growing in the Netherlands. The latest form of watersports, which has its origins in Hawaii, is becoming a real trend. The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show offers visitors a short clinic and enables more advanced SUPers to paddle across the exhibition on their boards.

Sailing in open sailboats
Visitors and their children will have the opportunity to try out various types of small boats (sailboats and RIBs); a great and simple way to discover the fun of watersports.

Waterspoor launch race
In cooperation with manufacturer Waterspoor Jachtbouw, the show will feature a daily competition giving visitors the chance to showcase their launch manoeuvring talent. They will be put through their paces on a special course, with the most skilled skipper receiving a special prize at the end of each day.

Sailing lessons in Optimist sailboats
Children can register for free sailing lessons in Optimist sailboats under the watchful eye of professional instructors.

Demonstrations and opportunities to try jetskiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, rowing and flyboarding

Experienced watersport professionals will showcase their skills on the jetski, surfboard, flyboard, wakeboard or rowboat. Visitors can also try these accessible watersports themselves and take free lessons. Wetsuits will be available, but participants should bring their own swim suits.

Manoeuvring clinics on a sailyacht
Visitors wishing to learn the basics of manoeuvring with an engine can join the instructors from De Zeezeilers van Marken for short daily clinics on a sailyacht, free of charge.

Manoeuvring for women
Throughout the exhibition, female visitors can hop on board the yacht of Motorboot magazine for a short manoeuvring lesson, free of charge.

Match racing
The weekend programme includes a match racing event in which two boats compete on a short course. Discover how experienced sailors determine their tactics and try to claim victory with their clever moves.

Bubble walking
A favourite activity for children during the boat show is rolling over the water inside large plastic bubbles.

Paddle biking
The exhibition will have a number of bikes available for visitors, offering the ideal way to see from the water all the beautiful yachts moored at the quay.

KNRM demonstrations
The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) will also be present at the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show. Check out cool lifeboats and listen to the impressive stories of crew members. Visitors might even be lucky enough to join them for a trip on the water.
