With 80,000 m2 of exhibition space on land and in water, and more than 500 boats on display, the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes is Europe’s leading in-water boat and yacht show and no doubt the world’s most prestigious. It attracts more than 54,000 visitors from the four corners of the globe, to discover close to 200 new international models, presented in their world debut.

This extraordinary event is being held in Cannes from 6th – 11th September, a favourite spot where glamour and luxury meet!

CHANGE OF DATES

Initially planned to be held from 7th to 12th September, the 34th Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes is now being held from Tuesday 6th to Sunday 11th September 2011, along the quays of the Vieux Port and Port Pierre Canto and in the Espace Riviera.

This change of dates is the direct consequence of the G20 summit being held in the city of Cannes impacting all scheduled events held before it, in particular the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes, but also MIPCOM and Tax Free. The scope of the G20 security measures in fact involve requisitioning the city’s entire seafront, from the Vieux Port to Port Pierre Canto starting October making it necessary to move up the dates of all the scheduled events

NEW FACILITIES

The Festival continues to grow. Further improvements have been carried out to make a visit to the show even more homogeneous and ensure that it corresponds better to current developments in the boating industry.

THE PANTIERO TERRACE: BETTER CIRCULATION

The Pantiero terrace traditionally welcomes exhibitors offering deck fittings, services, engines…

To develop this section, the direction of the flow of visitors has been studied. Now, visitors will move along a single path to discover these well-known exhibitors.

THE MULTIHULL SECTION: EVEN MORE DYNAMIC

With an in-water exhibition area that grows bigger from year to year, the Multihull Section is a must for all those who love Multihull cruisers both sail and motor. The largest shipyards in Europe and worldwide come here to officially unveil their new models. This year again, the Multihull Section is being set up right in the heart of the Vieux Port on the central pontoon accessible from both the Esplanade de la Pantiero and the Quai Saint-Pierre footbridge which has been moved slightly to ensure maximum space in the Multihull Section.

This is a unique exhibition gathering the world’s largest concentration of multihulls, with a very wide range of vessels from 10 to 36 metres, both sail and motor.

CREATION OF A NEW EXHIBITION AREA DEDICATED TO INFLATABLE CRAFT AND RIBS

This year sees the creation of a new area for Inflatable Crafts (Espace Pneumatique) set up at the junction of the swing bridge (Traversante) and Quai Max Laubeuf. An area totally dedicated to all forms of inflatable craft and rigid inflatable boats (RIB).

Numerous French, Italian, and other European makes responded immediately to this initiative which recognizes the popularity of this type of boat among a public of loyal connoisseurs. In addition to the display on land which occupies the entire tip of Quai Max Laubeuf and a large part of the esplanade behind it, lovers of inflatable craft will enjoy discovering a number of the new models displayed in water.

A UNIQUE SHOWCASE FOR PLEASURE BOATS AND LUXURY YACHTS WORLDWIDE

Thanks to a particularly rich offering of products and services and high quality of visitor, the Festival enjoys a reputation which now goes beyond European borders. With 87% exhibitors foreign, coming from 34 countries, the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes has established itself as a resolutely international event. While European countries still are the exhibitors most represented, through the presence of French, Italian, British, Spanish and German shipyards, the show welcomes the growing number of exhibitors coming from the United States, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Asia, with the emergence of Turkey which is offering vessels built and finished to a very high standard.

THE TRENDS FOR 2011 GET ON BOARD…

Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes 2011 – The Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show

Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes 2011 – The Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show

STANDARD OR CUSTOM-MADE: SAME HIGH REQUIREMENTS

Whether buying a 24-metre yacht (minimum size for the luxury yacht category) or a vessel over 45 metres, the owners desire the same degree of excellence. Increasingly, the main shipyards set the same standards of quality for their production and semi-custom models as for their custom-made models. Thus, identical in their line (hull, deckhouse), it is by their interiors that these boats are distinct from each other. If the shipyard’s designers propose standard decoration and furnishings, an increasing number of customers want to customise their boat. Furniture, lighting, carpeting, wood, taps, tableware, linens…everything can be done according to their specific requirements and no detail is left to chance.

DESIGN INVITES ITSELF ON BOARD

The idea of design has been inseparable from pleasure boating for many years and the

Festival has always been used by all the shipyards and parts manufacturers present to officially unveil their innovations in the field. With close to 200 new models on display in water each year, the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes is without question the event you won’t want to miss.

Thus, in successive stages, design has taken precedence over tradition and technological advances have made it possible to discover on our pontoons the very best in a market that covers all the sailing boats and motor boats from 10 to 50 metres.

Closer to the seaside villa, or even the urban loft in the way we think about it and use it, the world of yachting has discovered the joys of design and with it the notion of floating furniture, pieces we move around at will according to our mood or go from one yacht to another. There is also the possibility, unthinkable until recently, to remodel your main lounge completely in days. Table, chairs, sofas, carpeting, lamps, fabric covered walls can all be changed in only a few days and thus dramatically transform your yacht. A trend today that makes yachts the favoured target of designers and new owners who no longer want to succumb to the weight of traditions and immobility when it comes to decoration. The Festival pontoons are a reflection of these trends since they touch with more or less intensity every size vessel and Cannes is today the only show to present such a large range of vessels, both sail and motor.

Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes 2011 – BOATS ARE GOING GREEN!

Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes 2011 – BOATS ARE GOING GREEN!

BOATS ARE GOING GREEN!

The Festival is the showcase of a worldwide industry that has been concerned for a long time now about its impact on the environment. To one degree or another, each of us strives to display the most virtuous behaviour possible. Parts manufacturers, engine builders and boat builders have all undertaken initiatives in this direction.

Like purchasing a car, the decision to buy a boat, regardless of its size, should be accompanied by thoughts of the future, about one’s true commitment to sustainable development and protecting the environment. Just having a solar generator is no longer enough. We need to look more long term.

Whether sail or motor, every boat has a lifecycle which starts with its conception through its long period of use to its eventual destruction. In other words, throughout this cycle like any manufactured article it generates forms of pollution; for all that, according to Greenpeace, less than 1% of ocean pollution is due to pleasure boating.

So at each stage in the lifecycle of a boat, the shipyards actively do many things, from building the boat, through maintaining it during the long period it is in use, to recycling all the material when it comes to the end of its life.

If all the cycles are respected, the environmental impact of yachting on nature will be reduced. Whether sail or motor, the new generation of boats, as well as their owners, must first and foremost adopt an eco-responsible attitude.

Just having a solar generator is no longer enough. We need to look more long term.
