Based in Zaandam, the Netherlands, Claasen Shipyards has recently begun construction of the all-new 77-foot Pilot Classic yacht, based on drawings by Hoek Design. The yard has already constructed various Truly Classic yachts over the years, comprising the popular Truly Classic 90 superyacht. The 77ft Claasen sailing yacht presently in development is the third yacht of this specific model. As classic sailyachts are becoming increasingly popular, Claasen Shipyards is building this new aluminium sailyacht with a modern underwater section on spec and entirely in-house. To be built to MCA, this Pilot Classic will be handed over in early 2016.

With this project Claasen Shipyards is responding to the growing demand for top-quality pilot classic yachts that are suitable for the most extreme sailing areas, and able to compete on the regatta circuit. In addition to the distinctive classic lines, these sturdily constructed yachts feature an ultra-modern underwater section combined with an intelligent deck layout. The latter makes it possible to safely sail the Pilot Classic single-handedly as all other functions can be operated from the cockpit.

In the design of the 77-foot Claasen Pilot Classic yacht, the keel of which will be laid shortly, the emphasis is on easy-to-maintain basic materials such as aluminium and GRP. Due to the extra solid construction and insulation, the yacht’s sailing range is virtually unrestricted, including the most extreme Arctic regions. There is room for eight people onboard in a luxury owner’s suite, a VIP cabin and two additional guest cabins. The spacious deckhouse offers ideal protection from all elements as well as stunning views which can be enjoyed in maximum comfort.

With its proven craftsmanship for over 30 years, Claasen Shipyards is known for superior quality as well as the use of intelligent design details. On the 77-ft Pilot Classic yacht this is illustrated by the smart anchor system, which was entirely developed in-house. As it is entirely flush and integrated within the aluminium hull below the waterline, the system is invisible on the exterior of the yacht. The application of the state-of-the-art anchor system prevents unexpected damage to both the anchor and the hull. In addition it keeps resistance to a minimum, which is an important aspect during races.

The Zaandam yard is currently involved in two other projects as well: a Truly Classic 90 and a Truly Classic 126 yacht. Partially as a result of the considerable interest in the yard from abroad, Claasen Shipyards recently renewed its entire website.
