The British Marine Federation (BMF) was pleased, yesterday to welcome Alan Morgan to Marine House as its new President.

Alan Morgan is handed presidency of the BMF by outgoing President, Jon Eads CMM. During his time as President, Jon has led the BMF to a number of successes including securing amendments to the recently instated Marine and Coastal Access Act, maintaining a membership figure in the region of 1500 and strengthening both the PSP Southampton and Tullett Prebon London International Boat Shows, despite challenging circumstances.

Alan Morgan is Director at ZM&P Recreational Marine UK. He has enjoyed a 28 year-long career in the marine industry, and has been working closely with the British Marine Federation and National Boat Shows (NBS) for many years; as Chairman of NBS for the period 2006-2008. During his successful Chairmanship, both the 2007 Southampton and 2008 London International Boat Shows were shortlisted as ‘Best Consumer Show’ at the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) Awards, which the latter also won.

Alan said: “It is an honour and a great pleasure to be elected as President of the British Marine Federation.

“I am proud of the £3.1b contribution that our industry makes to our economy and I look forward to contributing to the support that the Federation makes in assisting our members in their endeavours.

“We are fortunate to have a very capable, loyal and hard working executive team and it will be a privilege to lead the team in their work on our behalf.

“We have many challenges ahead of us and I will be looking to continue the excellent work of my predecessors in seeking to achieve the objectives set out in our current business plan and longer term strategy.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my good fortune to have worked in this industry and have made many friends worldwide. It is now great to have this opportunity to put something back.”

Rob Stevens, BMF Chief Executive added: “Jon took up the position of President in difficult economic circumstances and has worked tirelessly with the BMF executive team to ensure its work is recognised at the highest level.  The Federation has celebrated many successes under Jon’s guidance, and I would like to thank him for the enthusiasm, wisdom and commitment he has brought to the BMF and the wider marine industry.

“Alan is a popular and well respected personality in the marine industry and his vast experience in the marine World will stand him in good stead for the new challenges we will face as we emerge from the global recession.  The new Government’s emphasis on growing small businesses and the exciting developments in store for the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show present some real opportunities for the BMF; not to mention the continued development work from British Marine Federation departments. We look forward to working together to continue to provide the best possible service for the marine industry.”
