Fassmer, part of the DEUTSCHE YACHTEN working group positioned in Berne on the Lower Weser in Germany, has demonstrated how everything is possible in the field of mechanical engineering as well as construction. The company has produced a concept study based on their 65-metre Explorer Yacht that comprises features ranging from a helipad to an underwater lift.

The special purpose vessels built by Fassmer, including many search and rescue boats, are internationally renowned, as is the police boat “Helgoland” which was launched in Büsum at the beginning of November. The components produced in powder-coated aluminium, stainless steel or GRP/carbon fibre by Fassmer’s deck equipment division have been used to build and refit mega yachts for many years.  In collaboration with the engineers from beiderbeck designs – also a member of the DEUTSCHE YACHTEN working group – Fassmer has produced a concept for a high-tech yacht based on two offshore survey vessels (“Fugro Searcher” and “Fugro Galaxy”) previously built by the company on the river Weser.

You can now customise your own Explorer to incorporate a helicopter landing pad that quickly swings out forward over the bow or a hangar amidships that lowers down into the vessel to accommodate the on-board helicopter.  Directly behind the hangar there is a garage with ramp where you can park your convertible, roadster or limousine. No matter what kind of vehicle you would like to take with you to the seas, this family-owned company will find a customised solution.

Included in Fassmer’s individualised standard portfolio are ladders and gangways between the individual decks or used for side boarding that are operated hydraulically and have user-oriented flap mechanisms of various kinds. Especially cool is a stern passerelle that seems to hover in the air and can be adjusted in height to provide a safe way to go ashore.  You could also opt for an observation platform that also swings out from various places on the hull.  The mechanical eye high on top of the telescopic mast keeps everything in view.

The tenders are a special highlight that is unique to this boatyard. These can be fitted out to serve as certified rescue boats, to act as transportation to the shore or as a luxury dinghy – or they can combine all functions in one. The accommodation on board is also designed in accordance with the required purpose for the Explorer. The numerous davit systems comply with the highest safety standards.

A contained beach club at the stern of the Explorer provides for great fun in the water, with its child-safe, shark-proof swimming area and wave-breaker. For the children, there is also a higher level of cruise comfort – a water slide that passes through several decks into the indoor pool. If you wish to explore the underwater flora and fauna up close but do not want to dive down yourself, just enter the underwater lift.  The lowest level is glazed, providing a panoramic view, just without the lift doors.

The yacht has an overall length of 65 metres, a beam of 14 metres, a displacement of 1850 tons and a draught of 4.20 metres. With a cruising speed of ten knots and a storage tank of 389 cubic metres, the vessel can travel for 6,000 nautical miles. Thanks to the highly modern diesel/electric propulsion system combined with extensive noise and vibration reduction technology, the Fassmer Explorer Yacht is one of the quietest vessels of its class. All nautical equipment refinements including SOLAS certification can also be implemented on any Fassmer Explorer Yacht.
