Six finalists for the 2016 Young Designer of the Year Award, sponsored by Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco, were chosen from an amazing number of entries submitted from students and trainee designers from all over the world.

Entrants were presented with a concept drawing for a 45-metre motor yacht specially prepared by Vripack Naval Architects and were asked to expand it into a fully thought-out design for a notional client – this year a female fashion designer based in Milan, who set out her detailed requirements for a luxury ‘party boat’ on which to entertain her friends and clients.
All six finalists, including Baoqi Xiao, Lujac Desautel, Leah Gowoon Park, Ben Hills, Marlena Ratajska and Dave Rowles, will receive an all-expenses-paid visit to the Oceanco shipyard, as well as a ticket to attend the Superyacht Design Symposium and ShowBoats Design Awards Prize Giving in Austria’s Kitzbühel, where the coveted Neptune trophy will be presented to the winner, together with a €5,000 cash prize.
