In the modern world, when it comes to technology and design, the sky is the limit. This also applies to the world of luxury superyachts, with more gigantic vessels being built and gaining popularity. Each year we look at the most outrageous yacht concepts, which are very hard to believe would hit the water one day. However, one of the recent yacht concepts, the 117-metre/384-feet superyacht ALEXIS actually looks realistic and might eventually be commissioned to an experienced yacht owner. What would possibly attract potential buyers? Let’s take a look at this mega yacht’s features and design.

Mega yacht explorer ALEXIS

ALEXIS, part of the Goliath polar-explorer series is a fantastic megayacht capable of cruising in all weather conditions and even in the icy-cold waters. Her designer Steve Kozloff created a mindblowing exterior design featuring six decks, polar-class hull and a certified helipad, potentially making her an ideal expedition yacht or a luxury research vessel. The landing pad, as well as a huge 914 sqm/3000 sqft hangar for four helicopters, make it possible to land and take of in any conditions, crucial for around-the-world expeditions, where remote areas are not reachable by yacht.

Swimming pools on luxury yachts are a very common feature these days. However, ALEXIS boasts two pools with hard retractable covers which means there is no need to drain thousands of gallons of water. Surely, a crew would very much appreciate this.

The pools are a great addition to any yacht vacation, however, imagine an expedition to the Polar water in extreme temperatures. While there would be no use of sunbathing, swimming and outdoor relaxation areas, Kozloff made sure the icing problems onboard are easily solved. Heated handrails and doors make it comfortable to get around the vessel, while the ice-class hull breaks through moderate ice.

Two submarines, a few tenders and numerous water toys fit into a massive tender garage. In addition, the yacht is equipped with four free-fall lifeboats available in all weather conditions.

ALEXIS’s accommodation layout includes three master suites. Up to 20 guests can sleep in spacious staterooms.

The exterior spaces forward are designed for the guests’ use, whether it is dinner alfresco, lazing on sun loungers or soaking in a pool enjoying the views. Located aft, the swim platform offers access to the water and a private lounge area.

Equipped with four 16-cylinder, Cummins QSK60-M diesel-electric powerplants for 8,000 total hp, Alexis can reach a top speed of 14 knots. She is capable of carrying 432,000 gallons of diesel for long distance cruising.

Overall, this impressive yacht has great chances to be built one day. She boasts some outstanding features, which adventurous yacht owners would appreciate. Unlike some other futuristic superyacht concepts, ALEXIS has all the potential to join the fleet of luxurious expedition charter yachts.
