Design Unlimited were the interior stylists aboard the new explorer yacht ARKSEN 85 from technology and innovation company Arksen.

With a cruising range of 6,000 nautical miles, Owners and guests will likely be spending a great deal of time aboard, and with this in mind Design Unlimited have created comfortable contemporary living areas within the spacious interiors that use durable and eco-friendly materials.

The ARKSEN series is designed to have a lifespan of 50 years, after which the environmentally sustainable materials such as the all-aluminium hull and superstructure are fully recyclable. To match this philosophy inside, recycled materials are used wherever possible and ethically sourced natural materials from sustainable sources are used to complete the decor: The rugs, cushions and throws are all made from recycled plastic bottles and cotton-rich yarns from Italy have been woven together with recycled fashion industry textiles to create the upholstery.

The flexible layout of the ARKSEN 85 provides three different general plans for the main deck alone, depending on where the helm controls and Master suite are situated. This is to maximise space on board for all guests while being tailored to each Owner’s preference for usage. In one example, the helm station takes up a small section of the main deck forward with an L-shaped corner to port and a C-shaped sofa to starboard, with a table for group meals indoors. The aft section of the interior places a galley to port and starboard, and comes furnished with a large hob, an oven and combi-oven, two fridges and freezers, two dishwashers, plenty of storage for equipment and dry stores for recycling.

The Master suite can also be used as a private retreat for its occupants, offering a study/media area, a king-sized bed, an extra berth and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and steam room. Depending on which interior layout is chosen, up to 14 explorers can live aboard for expeditions.

Storage has been well considered for extensive journeys to destinations with varying weather and temperatures, and behind the wardrobe and under the lift-up mattress there are additional lockers for storing winter gear or summer wear.

The ARKSEN 70, the ARKSEN 85 and the ARKSEN 100 explorer yacht models were released earlier in 2019 and the semi-autonomous vessels can be built to ICE-Class standards with the capability of beaching.

Owners of an Arksen explorer yacht also become members of the Arksen Foundation and dedicate 10% of the vessel’s time at sea to research and conservation projects.

The ARKSEN 85 is due to commence construction this summer.
