In September 2018 British luxury yacht builder Sunseeker announced its intention to build bigger superyachts in response to growing demand and feedback from clients, and the shipyard has partnered with multi-award winning Icon Yachts to produce the motor yacht SUNSEEKER 161.

Superyacht Sunseeker 161

Sunseeker spent three years in finding a partner for their aluminium-hulled yacht in the 50m+ sector, and for the steel-hulled SUNSEEKER 161, Dutch shipbuilders Icon Yachts proved not only to have the construction specialty but also the same progressive spirit as the UK-based shipyard while having the flexibility to create a true Sunseeker design.

Icon Yachts specialises in modern construction and high-quality build methods. As well as producing stunning superyachts, they have worked on refitting notable superyachts in the luxury yacht charter industry, winning the Rebuilt Yachts category for expedition yacht LEGEND at the World Superyacht Awards 2017, and most recently luxury yacht RAMBLE ON ROSE has departed from the shipyard after receiving an extensive winter-long refit. A new 130m/426ft floating dock was added in 2019 to further extend Icon Yachts’ refit capacity by 100%.

The SUNSEEKER 161 comes in below 500 GT and covers three decks with plenty of alfresco sunbathing and dining areas in addition to spacious interiors that can be customised through the Sunseeker ‘Bespoke’ service. A plunge pool will be fitted on the main deck and the lower deck stern will feature a generous beach club for relaxation beside the water.

The accommodation provides for up to 10 guests across five beautifully-appointed en-suite cabins, and the layout can be modified to sleep up to 12 as the Owner desires.

Icon Yachts is also dedicated to maintaining its reputation as one of the world’s greenest shipyards and all of its new-build yachts are produced to the Green Yacht Plus standard to minimise environmental impact wherever the luxury yacht cruises. The first SUNSEEKER 161 is expected for delivery in 2021.
