Currently on sale through the Ferretti Group‘s dealer Ventura, the new Riva 88 Miami yacht undoubtedly represents one of the biggest open top powerboats ever, as well as the first fully convertible powerboat to have a power opening roof. The superb Riva 88 Miami superyacht is expected to make her debut in February 2015.

It’s quite a show stopper! Owning a Riva puts you in one of the most exclusive clubs in the boating world. The admiring audience that gathers on the quayside wherever you go is just something you have to get used to. But the sight of the convertible hardtop on the 88 Miami superyacht lifting off and swinging into its storage recess on the foredeck, will surely leave onlookers open-mouthed.

With the roof down, motor yacht Riva 88 Miami is the biggest, coolest and most awesome open powerboat the world has ever seen. The fact that it’s also a Riva makes it untouchable. With 40ft of foredeck in front of you and almost 40ft of open cockpit behind you, taking the helm of the 88 Miami is like driving a giant sportsboat. And with 4,870hp at your fingertips, and all 58 tons responding smartly to every tweak of the wheel, she handles like one too.

The roof opening mechanism is like something straight out of a Bond movie. It was designed and developed by the Ferretti Group AYT&D department, and built by those masters of powered marine deck gear, Besenzoni. Two electro-hydraulic arms emerge from the sides of the forward coachroof, pivot backwards, pick up the cockpit roof, swing it forward, lower it into its storage position over the seating area on the foredeck, then tuck themselves back into their respective stowage pods. Below is a video to see it in action:

The movement can also be paused with the hardtop suspended above the foredeck seating area to create a sunshade.

From the outside, with her open top and enormous cockpit, some will no doubt see the 88 Miami yacht as the ultimate dayboat. Indeed there will surely be some for whom that’s exactly what she is. But for those with broader cruising ambitions, she is the same serious motor yacht below decks as the hardtop 86 Domino yacht from which she’s derived.

She retains the same kind of beautifully styled and finished interior as the superyacht 86 Domino, and miraculously still has four en suite cabins even though the superyacht 88 Miami also has a lower deck saloon! The revisions to the layout that achieved this are truly ingenious. The owner’s suite is still full beam amidships, but the owner’s en suite bathroom is now to one side rather than aft of the cabin. The other three suites, two doubles and a twin, are relatively unaffected by the change. And finally, the hull windows of the original 86 Domino have been substantially developed, resulting in even more daylight throughout all parts of the lower deck.
