A Marlborough Sounds yacht charter can be quite mystical and spiritual with a view of soft green mountains downed in native forest meeting still turquoise waters in an endless web of tiny bays. There's no better way to enjoy the Marlborough Sounds, than onboard a charter boat. Can you picture a place so perfect, so still, that you dare not breath? Where the scenery around you, is so awesome, that you find yourself wondering whether you'd stepped onto a canvas? The tiny town of Picton is nestled in a valley of green mountain after green mountain rising up from turquoise waters. The Sounds really will take your breath away, with a beauty of magical proportions.

The best way to see this area is on a charter boat. With over 2000km of quite bays, taking up a fifth of New Zealand's extensive coastline, the Marlborough Sounds is New Zealand's largest protected cruising grounds. Queen Charlotte, Keneperu and Pelorus Sounds, are all adorned with secluded and sheltered bays, beaches, caves and bushwalks. There are also a couple of small marinas in each Sound, with basic charter boat facilities and numerous mooring in most bays.

In season, you can dive for scallops and crayfish, and all year round, New Zealand's green-lipped mussels, are at your fingertips. If you'd prefer to keep your hands clean, moor your charter boat at one of the resorts. You can dine at a number of restaurants, where the local produce is prepared fresh, and to perfection. In Queen Charlotte Sound, visit Punga Cove, Furneaux Lodge or the exclusive Bay of Many Coves Resort, for a fantastic meal and a spectacular view. In the Pelerous Sound, the Portage Resort offers great facilities and a small marina.

The Sounds are warm and lively in summer, from November to March, providing the perfect sheltered environment for sailing and motor yachts alike. Throughout the rest of the year, although colder, the Sounds take on an incredible stillness and vibrant colour. Because of its geographical location, it always pays to take plenty of warm clothes and some wet-weather gear, as the weather can turn pretty quickly. If your ideal holiday involves stunning scenery, great sailing and calm, crisp days, a New Zealand yacht charter in the Marlborough Sounds will be a delightful experience.
