Your Guide to Yacht Charter in Montenegro

Montenegro Yacht Charter

Montenegro yacht charters are growing in popularity just as they are in neighboring Croatia. Montenegro is in the south east of Europe on the Balkan peninsula. It has beautiful lakes, spectacular waterfalls, national parks and many mountain ranges. Montenegro is now becoming one of the most popular locations for luxury yacht charters in the Adriatic.

Experience this amazing superyacht charter destination which many people have said rivals Monaco in some ways.

The independent nation of Montenegro escaped unscathed from the Balkan Civil War and separated from Serbia in 2006. It’s a hotspot destination for luxury yachts to head for and if you decide to sail here don’t miss seeing the Bay of Kotor or BokaKotorska. Here you will see steep mountains, tranquil green waters and a fjord-like landscape. Porto Montenegro has lots of fantastic facilities and has played host to the Boat International Superyacht Rendezvous.

From June until September the weather is warm and dry. These are the quiet months to enjoy Montenegro although the temperature of the waters can be a little fresh especially in June. Mid-July through to August the Adriatic Sea is quite busy with charterers from all over the world.

Where to moor your luxury yacht

Port Montenegro is probably the most well-established marina to moor your yacht. It’s also one of the most vibrant party destinations. Budva and Kotor have limited berthing for yachts however there are other anchorages in the Bay of Kotor. Bigova and Valdanos also offer suitable mooring facilities depending on the weather. While visiting Montenegro you aren’t far from Croatia and even Venice, so take a trip to these two interesting places on your voyage.

Getting to Montenegro

Montenegro has two international airports at Tivat and Podgorica. TIV as it is known has a difficult although spectacular approach having to fly between the mountains of BokaKotorska Bay on the northern coast. These airports can accommodate private jets which is good news if you own a private jet. Take note that foreign-flagged superyachts must have a vignette (permit) to use the waters of Montenegro. The currency here is Euros.

Immigration, visas and customs in Montenegro

As Montenegro is an EU-candidate state, people travelling from the EU, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada don’t need a visa and are able to stay for up to 90 days. Those visitors from the United Arab Emirates and South Africa do need visas.

Montenegro Yacht Charter Enquiry

We have just completed a three week cruise of the Croatian waters aboard Annabel II and are so completely delighted I am compelled to report back for other prospective travelers. We began our cruise in Tavit, Montenegro with three couples/friends and voyaged NW stopping at islands along the Dalmatian Coast, finally making an interim stop in Izola, Slovenia where three other couples/friends replaced the first group. Under Andrew the crew operated seamlessly and anchoring/tying up was akin to performance art. As a boater in Southern California I appreciated and was amazed at the teamwork. And the gourmet meals!!! Breakfast was prepared to individual wishes. One morning I asked for crepes expecting to be told it wasn't planned for and not available. Instead Chef Dee Dee dug up a recipe from her vast repertoire, including Nutella spread and surprised me with a fabulous breakfast. Lunch was typically an ample buffet. And dinners were just fabulous, each different with elaborate place settings and napkins folded using origami rules. Individual dietary needs were always respected, and the meals were healthy.
