TANIWHA Southern Wind

If you have any questions about the TANIWHA information page below please contact us.

Sailing yacht TANIWHA from South African shipyard Southern Wind was launched in Q2 of 2021 with a full carbon hull and superstructure and a generous sail plan. The name 'Taniwha' comes from Māori mythology from New Zealand and relates to beings that were often revered as guardians of the caves, pools, rivers and seas that they called home. The naval architecture comes from Farr Yacht Design, while Nauta Design created the exterior and interior styling. Overnight, the accommodation sleeps up to eight guests over four en-suite cabins, with a crew of five to ensure that all guests have everything they desire.

NOTABLE FEATURES OF TANIWHA: ~The first SW105 model to have a GT (Gran Turismo) deck configuration ~Spacious cockpit and sunbathing area ~Studio converts to fourth en-suite cabin ~Renowned designer and naval architect ~Lifting keel from 5.9m/19ft to 3.8m/12.5ft ~Air conditioning ~Wi-Fi

EXTERIOR

The GT (Gran Turismo) deck configuration is designed for speed and bluewater cruising, and the deck layout has been changed when compared to the DS and RS models to provide improved views from the helm controls by moving them close to the gunwales. This in turn has created space for a large sunbathing area immediately behind, and room for a tender garage that can store a 4.5m/14.8ft tender.

The coachroof also has a more streamlined appearance in comparison to previous SW105 hulls, and the large cockpit provides plenty of space to relax outdoors over drinks and a meal. The foredeck is left clear for operations, however, when at anchor the area can be used for exercise such as yoga, sunbathing and observation of the local wildlife.
