The beautiful 59m motor yacht AKULA (ex Fomalhaut, Princess Laya, and Elanymor) was built in 1973 by Amels, and was originally a Dutch navy pilot vessel. She was converted to a world cruising explorer yacht in 1999 at the Vosper Thornycraft shipyard, with a further engine overhaul in 2010. She was built to the highest Dutch naval specification, and her impeccable condition shows how thoroughly she has been maintained. She can reach a top speed of 13.5 knots, and cruises at 11 knots. Her rugged built allows her worldwide cruising – a great choice for avid explorers. She sleeps 10 guests over 9 cabins, and her crew of 19 will ensure smooth, safe cruising wherever guests choose to go.

NOTABLE FEATURES OF AKULA: ~Rugged build allows for worldwide exploration ~Helicopter deck and hangar ~ Vosper stabilizers ~Large observation deck with 360º views ~Fitness centre featuring gym, sauna and massage room ~Air conditioning

The main aft deck has been converted into a helipad. The vessel is equipped with four Vosper stabilizers, which assist in rough weather helicopter operations. This allows for comfortable landings in up to around Force 6 conditions.

The large foredeck is a versatile space, which can be used for water toy storage, or cleared for entertaining or outdoor activities.
Above on the observation deck, sun loungers and umbrella can be set up for soaking up sun sun and enjoying the 360º views.

The 1999 refit saw this yacht transformed from expedition craft only, to luxury yacht with expedition capabilities. The main deck salon is the main social hub, with a dining area accommodating area as well as living area. The living area features a large couch and accompanying lounger, with a coffee table for resting drinks and snacks. The elevated position of this salon and large panoramic windows provide all day sun and incredible views.

There is also a well equipped galley, with all the applicances you could ask for. On the lower deck, there is another indoors rest area with sofas, recliners and a large TV for enjoying movies and entertainment. The cream décor provides a relaxing atmosphere in this area.
Guests can keep fit with use of the gym, and wind down from workouts in the sauna or massage room.

Her three Deutz AG engines provide a top speed of 13.5 knots, and a cruising speed of 11 knots.
